COMMODORE S CORNER We now have a new 3-person Membership Committee for MYCLB. The members on this committee are John Caldwell, Allen Miles, and Alan Cunningham (our newest member). They will be the focal point for all new membership activities. They will provide guidance to our members to help them expedite obtaining new membership approval as well as recommending steps to streamline our approval process. They will coordinate with the Secretary and Treasurer for expediting their responsibilities. They will also report monthly at the Board of Directors meeting and provide a monthly status report in the Dock Lines. Thank you guys for your dedicated support. Thanks to Tom Mayes and Mary Barton for hosting our St. Patrick s Party at the Red Leprechaun Irish Pub in Long Beach. This was our first visit to this pub but it will not be our last. Several years ago when Joan and I visited Ireland, we stopped daily at a local pub; every day at a different location. One pub we stopped at could not serve us an Irish coffee because they didn t have any fresh whipped cream. (Irish bartenders will not use squirt cream in a can.) We were disappointed. We are looking forward to Opening Day and we have great plans for our parade this year. John Caldwell has arranged with the Marina to have the Alamitos Bay Fireboat lead the parade under a giant spray of water. Our boats will be following in line in random order and pass by the SEA SIREN for formal review and salute. Our sailboat will be stationed in the harbor turning basin across from the Marina Office. Following the parade we will meet at Malarkey s Grill for lunch, awards and festivities. You should have already sent in your Blue Card to Port Captain Rodney Coomber by now. We want everybody who can to be on the water for the parade. You can be placed on someone s boat who will be in the parade. At Malarkey s Grill we will also have a membership vote on the proposed By-Laws change to provide a definition for Honorary Membership. This proposed amendment to our By-Laws was approved by the Board of Directors at the March 2 nd Board meeting and has been sent to all our members. A 2/3-approval vote of those present is required to pass. The next weekend we will be sailing up to Cabrillo Way Marina. Be sure to see the Blue Card in the February DOCK LINES for all the details. Port Captain Dee Schumacher has arranged a fun-filled weekend and a chance to really checkout your boat for the summer boating season. Rod Coomber and I have been working on an annual budget for this year. We are ready to review this at our next Board of Directors meeting for approval. We set a requirement that we will retain sufficient funds in our treasury for approximately 2-year s worth of operating expenses (about $4500.00). Use Your Boat & Be Seen in 2016 Jim Wolfelt, Commodore MYCLB

VICE COMMODORE S CORNER Sring has sprung and that means it s time to get out on the water! And what better way than with our Opening Day in Alamitos Bay just one week away! On Saturday Harry Hutton is bringing Sunshine to the Gangway 30 end tie with Larry and Hedy arriving in Seascape. With so many members on Gangway 30 and nearby it will be nice if we can get together Saturday late afternoon for some docktails (4:30 7:00). Bring your own drinks and finger foods and we ll bring ice, a blender, and chips and pretzels! We plan to have a few more docktail parties this year, where members can get together at different member s slips to socialize and invite and introduce boating friends. Thanks to Alan Cunningham for the great idea and others to come! As Jim mentioned we ll have a fireboat leading this year s boat parade. We may end up falling in line behind the fireboat before the turning basin where the plan was to congregate maybe closer to LBYC so stay flexible and stay tuned! Charlie and Marilyn will be cruing closer to home this season and won t be able to host the Avalon Cruise in June. If anyone wants to voluenteer as Post Captain for this cruise please let me know as soon as you can. Charlie will be around to assist with reservations and coordination. We have now received invitations of reciprocity from the American Legion YC, Newport Beach; Cabrillo Beach YC, San Pedro; Cerritos Bahia YC, Long Beach; Chanel Islands YC, Oxnard; Del Rey YC, MdR; Hollywood YC, Costa Mesa; Hunting Harbor YC, Huntington Beach; Lido Isle YC, Newport Beach; Los Angeles YC, San Pedro; Navy YC, Long Beach; Oceanside YC, Oceanside; San Luis YC, Avila Beach; Silver Gate YC, San Diego; South Shore YC, Newport Beach; Westlake YC, Westlake; and the West Coast YC, Dana Point. John Caldwell Vice Commodore, MYCLB

Port Captain s Report for the St. Patrick s Day Party Port Captains Tom & Mary Mayes welcomed twentysix MYCLB Mariners to the Red Leprechaun Irish Pub on March 19. The merry mélange munched on a magnificent buffet of home made corned beef, cabbage, potatoes, salad, and a delicious bread pudding for dessert. Accommodations were made to suit the tastes of vegetarians and vegans, who seemed pleased with their non-traditional fare. The outstanding TED Bluegrass Band provided entertainment. Not only did they play traditional bluegrass and Irish songs, they also brought along song sheets to lead our Wild Irish Roses & Thorns in melodious song. The toe tapping music aroused Darrel Sausser to demonstrate his jig dancing skills. Rodney Coomber, the self-proclaimed giant leprechaun, was the winner of the best costume prize, a gift certificate for another visit to the Red Leprechaun Pub.
