By the time of the 1841 census, & Matilda had moved to Dragley Beck in Ulverston. In 1851 only Elizabeth and were at home along with two Stuart grandchildren. Son had recently died. Father & son along with widow Elizabeth were living in Urswick in 1871. By 1901 son and widow and housekeeper Elizabeth were living at 43 Dale Street in Ulverston. first cousin to Hoggarth b.1806 Ellen second cousin to William Hoggarth b.1837 Ellen was born to and Matilda Hoggarth in Witherslack, the same parish where her grandfather Hoggarth (born 1759) married Birkett in 1780. Ellen had a twin sister,. In 1841 Ellen s parents and brothers and sisters had moved to live in Dragley Beck Ulverston. She however was a servant to the Kitson family in Lancaster. By 1851 her sister had also come to Lancaster for she was a maid to the Housman family in Skerton. Ellen was newly married to Thomas Ball who was originally from Leek in Staffs and a draper. They were living in Leonardgate, as they also were in 1861. By this time Thomas was a book keeper. At the time of their Marriage Benson is an ostler at the King s Arms in Ulverston. In 1861 he is a farmer of 50 acres in Colton. Their son Benson married in 1899 and had four children. Widowed, he is the keeper of the Red Lion, Hawkshead, in 1911. Later in the year he marries his manageress Maggie Harrison from Burton in Lonsdale.
