The Heritage has a relaxed atmosphere and a reputation which the current owners have maintained, as both a stylish restaurant and a comfortable place to stay. The 6 letting bedrooms are larger than one might expect and, as the area draws plenty of visitors, the business is well placed to welcome regular local customers, small functions and guests from further afield. Dorset is, of course, a beautiful county with wonderful coastline, so it is a lovely place to live too. The mouth of the River Wey has been a port since Roman times but it was King George III who put Weymouth firmly on the map as a resort, when he visited to take the waters of the English Channel. The harbour is very pretty and the town retains both its Georgian seafront and a bustling shopping centre. The railway station offers a regular service and, during the summer months, a fast catamaran runs to the Channel Islands. Chickerell has grown over the last 20 years but still has the heart of a village and the Heritage is right in the middle, opposite the vicarage. It is an ideal place from which to explore the Jurassic Coast, a World Heritage Site, with its sandy beaches and sheltered bays. Acquired by the present owners in 2008, the business has been simplified and smartened up, which means that fewer staff are required without the loss of profitability. Indeed, reducing the commitment for staff makes the business far more attractive. Dorset has, over the last few years, built a reputation for good quality locally sourced food, indeed our clients have a Dining Award from the AA for exactly that. The Heritage has had a strong local following for many years and new owners can follow on with confidence, with the additional investment boost to the area that it is curently enjoying. THE OLYMPICS Weymouth Bay is the venue for the Olympic sailing events in 2012. There has been an increasing level of activity over the last year or two, as international teams ramp up their training and take part in major international regattas. A pre-olympic event started the countdown to August 2012 in earnest. To be so close to the Games is a thrilling prospect, and whilst the inevitable increase in trade may be considered a blip, the cachet will remain with the town for many years to come. It is an opportunity to impress and enhance reputations. THE PROPERTY Understood to be built around 1769 as cottages, the property has been a bakery, a laundry and even a fire station.
