CALOOSA WINNIES OF SOUTHWEST FLORIDA The Roadrunner Express Volume 1 Issue 5 March 2017 CHAPTER ESTABLISHED DECEMBER 5, 1970 Life is meant for good friends, and great adventures! OFFICERS Presidents Ed & Carolyn Thomas 1sr Vice Presidents John & Jean Weicherding 2nd Vice Presidents Bud & Sue Swift Secretary David & Barbara Wilkie Treasurer Fay Hubbard Inside this issue: March Rally 1-5 Birthdays & Anniversaries 6 New Members 6 Schedule 6 Book Club 6 Rally 2018 Info 7-8 CALOOSA WINNIES MARCH 13 16, 2017 LAZY DAYS RV RESORT, SEFFNER, FL SPRING FLING Ah SPRING is just around the corner as the Caloosa Winnies gathered together at Lazy Days RV Resort March 13 16, 2017 to celebrate Spring Fling! The co-hosts for this event were Bruce & Barbara Kanoza, John & Susan King. The rally hall tables were decorated in pastel colored table covers with flowers and Easter candy to add to the decorations. Happy Hour began at 4:00pm with a table full of snacks! New members Bob & Rita Mast and their daughter Ann Marie were introduced and welcomed to the Caloosas! On the dinner menu Walking Tacos! The co-hosts were busy setting up the taco bar, along with a huge pan of fresh fruit! The Ice Cream Social came next with the member scoopers doing a great job of serving everyone in record time! The evening entertainment was our version of The Not So Newlywed Game. The ladies and gentlemen were separated into groups and the questions were read to the ladies first to write their answers on score sheets. Their husbands were to write THEIR answers based what their wives would also answer. Then the reverse was done, guys wrote their answers based on the gals would say. After all the score sheets were completed, the couples got back together to compare answers! There were 5 couples who actually had the same answers to half of the questions! They all received a prize a container of Hershey Kisses! We also asked for the couple who scored the LEAST amount of correct answers there were 2 couples with the same answer of 3 total correct answers and they also got a prize of Hershey Kisses! There were LOTS of laughs as some of the answers were revealed out loud and we found one guy who didn't know the color of his wife s eyes!! We won t mention any names It was all in good fun! Games of Nickels finished off the evening, with several members in the games!

Tuesday morning our spring weather suddenly made a downturn as it was about 38 degrees when we headed to Lazy Days Front Porch Café for breakfast! Good thing we have good heaters in these coaches! We hardly ever get to use them in Florida but we were quite cozy inside! Off to breakfast for everyone, then a group of us met for a meeting in the rec hall to go over the details planning for our upcoming caravan. Before we knew it time for lunch and we went again to the Café to eat. Some of us had Plant City Strawberry Shortcake as the stand was set up in the café! Nothing like fresh strawberries in winter! Parksdale Farms is a local market in Plant City with everything strawberry one could want to eat! Milkshakes, jams, shortcake, cookies, and of course baskets of berries! Many members enjoyed that visit! At 4:00pm we met again for Happy Hour in the rec hall. At 5:00pm we formed car pools and went to a nearby Golden Corral Buffet Restaurant for dinner. Back at the rec hall after dinner the Nickels players were at it again with lots of laughs happening! Wednesday morning it was still chilly but the sun was shining with a promise it would warm up! After breakfast it was time for our business meeting with President Ed Thomas presiding. All officers were present with the exception of Treasurer Fay Hubbard who was on vacation. Jerry Miller filled in her place. The meeting was our usual informational and sometimes interactive with the members! We always find something to laugh about which is a good thing! Some of the information concerning the April/May caravan was discussed with more details coming via email to the caravaners. During the meeting President Ed officially introduced our new members Bob & Rita Mast and their daughter Ann Marie. Welcome to the Caloosas!! The meeting was adjourned at 11:20 am. The book club discussion about Fearless by Eric Blehm was led by Jerry Miller. The hosts were busy setting up games for the evening competition, then soon it was time for LUNCH again!!! The afternoon event was a cooking demonstration by Chef Maximo Perez, a chef for Lazy Days food and beverage department. Max demonstrated various cooking options using a convection/microwave oven just like the ones in our coaches. He made a shrimp dish in a microwave that was PERFECT and we got to sample the finished dish! Lucky us he gave out the recipe. Max also gave us many tips on cooking with the ovens and also showed us induction cooking and how different it is from gas or electric cooking. Almost all our members attended the seminar and no matter how many times one watches the demonstrations one always learns more helpful tips! We were very happy to have Max with us and we will invite him again to help us learn more ways to make RV cooking fun! Happy Hour at 4:00pm, followed by a Potluck Dinner! The variety of food was just EXCELLENT as always, and everyone filled their plates! We enjoyed the Ice Cream Social again, along with strawberries thanks to Carolyn Thomas who brought some! The hosts did a fast clean up after everyone was finished we noticed there were a lot of empty bowls and crock pots which is a good thing! A 50/50 was held and the winners were: Rita Mast, Diane Cipolla & Nancy Miller. Congrats to them! New Members: Rita, Ann Marie & Bob Mast

The games were set up and ready to be played! Everyone had a partner to help them keep score (AND keep them honest???) as some of the games were pure luck and some required skill! The games were: Pin The Tail On The Bunny, Sand Pail Ping Pong Toss, Easter Egg 21, Easter Egg Toss, Overhead Flower Toss, Pineapple Coconut Bowling, Pick a Jelly Bean, Oreo Stacking and Guess The Jelly Beans. Dave Wilkie and Sue Swift concentrate on their Oreo stacking! Jean Weicherding tosses flowers into the bucket! Jan Dippel tosses eggs into the basket with her partner Charlie Autry Rita Mast tosses eggs into the basket with Ed Thomas looking on! Karen Autry pins the tail on the bunny with her partner Frank Cipolla! Deep concentration for Sue Riling and David Nobert on their Oreo stacking! Ed Thomas tossing eggs into the basket Carolyn Thomas & Bruce Kanoza picking jelly beans with chopsticks! John Weicherding doing sand pail toss Bruce Kanoza tossing ping pong balls Russ Bosch tossing Easter eggs with Barb & Rita watching!

Charlie Autry doing Pineapple coconut Bowling with Diane Cipolla watching! Susan King & Wes Sims picking up jelly beans with Mike and Alice watching! Action!! Barbara Kanoza doing the Easter Egg Toss! Go Barb!!! Janice Cummings & David Riling picking jelly beans with chopsticks! Richard Johnson bowling with coconuts! Joe Bewes playing Sand Pail Toss with Jean Weicherding watching! Got the ACTION!! CONGRATULATIONS to the winners!!!! L to R: Rita Mast, Dave Wilkie, Chris Jussaume, Bob Mast, Linda Levine, Barb Wilkie, Bruce Kanoza and Jean Weicherding! THANKS to everyone for being such good sports and accepting the game challenges and doing your best!! Lots of deep concentration and of course with so many laughs along the way!!! We REALLY do have fun!!

Thursday dawned a bit warmer for us and our continental breakfast was ready! Donuts, bagels, coffee as usual. Soon it was time to pack up and get ready to leave once again. THANKS to the members who helped clean up and pack up the equipment and stow it in the Wagon Queen s car! Another fun event with our great Caloosa friends was over until the next time!! Our next adventure will be just that QUITE an adventure as we will be doing a 3 city caravan beginning April 21st. Some of our group will be traveling to all 3 locations, some will join us at specific campgrounds based on their schedules.
