Young Ireland Programme 2016 Troon, Scotland 20 23 September Developing talent in the workplace and the community: our major international event of the year, in conjunction with the Young Scotland Programme

Young Ireland Programme 2016 developing talent in the workplace and the community The Young Ireland Programme is a key annual event in the charity-run Young UK and Ireland Programme's calendar. Held each year concurrently with the Young Scotland Programme, the international mix of delegates under the same roof always engenders a vibrant and rewarding atmosphere. Our core aims are to develop communication skills, build confidence, and broaden the horizons of people in the early years of their careers. Although the minimum age is 18, there is no upper age limit: participants may be young in years, or in terms of professional development, or both. People who have come late to a career, for example, are positively encouraged irrespective of age. The 2016 programme will be held from 20 to 23 September in Troon, a seaside town in the west of Scotland within easy reach of Glasgow Airport. A number of travel options are available between Ireland and Scotland but see Where, when, how to get there? on the next page for recommended flights for delegates travelling from Dublin. A central part of the course is the presentation by each delegate of a 900-word paper ( Argument ) on a topic of the delegate's choice of current interest or controversy. Researched, written and submitted in advance, the paper is delivered during the event. Our coaches provide useful advice in a written briefing before the programme and then in rehearsal before the papers are presented. Argument is part of the competitive element of the programme along with On the Spot, in which delegates ask themselves a question on a topic of their own choice and then answer it without notes in as close to two minutes as possible! And there s much more, including: guest speakers sharing their extraordinary life experiences in the Testimony sessions; and the Group Challenge in which delegates are divided into small discussion groups, allocated a topic, and given an hour to prepare an informal presentation. The entire event adds up to a rich and unique experience. Everyone who completes the course will receive a certificate in recognition of an outstanding achievement. In addition, based mainly on the Argument paper, the title Ireland Young Thinker of the Year 2016 will be awarded to a delegate on the final evening.

Your questions answered... How does the programme benefit our delegate and our organisation? By nominating a member or members of staff for the programme, you will: develop their communication skills and presentational abilities inspire them to have confidence in themselves expand their intellectual horizons and their awareness of the issues which affect us all as a society expose them to a wide range of ideas, thoughts and life experiences give them the opportunity to be eligible for a prestigious title Where, when, how to get there? The venue for the programme is the four-star Piersland House Hotel, a country house hotel set in its own grounds in Craigend Road in Troon (overlooking the Royal Troon Golf Course, host of the 2016 Open). Registration is 130pm 3pm in the afternoon of Tuesday 20 September. Delegates will check-out after breakfast on Friday 23 September. Glasgow Airport is within easy reach of Troon (all delegates will receive detailed information on how to get to the hotel from there). For delegates travelling from Dublin, we recommend Aer Lingus flight EI3222 to Glasgow on Tuesday and EI3225 for the return on Friday. Who s eligible? People living in Ireland who are aged 18 or over and considered by their employers to be in the early stages of their careers. There is no upper age limit. What is the enrolment fee? 1475 plus VAT per delegate, inclusive of accommodation (single room occupancy) for three nights plus all meals. How do we register? Book online at www.youngprogramme.org See next page for further details. The closing date is Friday 12 August. What advice and information do you provide for delegates in advance? A delegate pack containing guidance on writing the Argument paper, information about On the Spot and other aspects of the programme, travel details, etc will be sent to all delegates on the closing date for booking. Any other questions? If so, call us on 0044 1292 473777, option 3 or email enquiries@youngprogramme.org

How to book a place for your delegate/s in the Young Ireland Programme 2016 Go to our website www.youngprogramme.org and complete the booking form. This brochure is also available on the website. See the home page for both. The cost per delegate is 1475 plus VAT. This covers three nights' accommodation and all meals at Piersland House Hotel, Troon, and is inclusive of enrolment fee. There is no limit on the number of places each organisation can book. Closing date for registration: Friday 12 August 2016 The name/s of your delegates must be received no later than the above closing date. All delegates will receive an information pack with full details including advice on preparing the Argument paper and travel information by e-mail on that date.
