Page 2 JOHN TAYLOR 25TH JULY 1947-12TH MAY 2010 John had been a member of the VSOC Essex Crusaders since 2005. Although he joined the club later in life, as most of us have, he did enjoy attending rallies at home and abroad, events and some ride-outs. John, known by many J.T. did like his cup of tea, he liked it so much, that he was known for it and for smoking his pipe. John was diagnosed with cancer in 2008 and had to have surgery and chemotherapy. April 2009 he came to the Southern Snakes rally. We were all amazed to see him on his bike so soon after all that he had been through in the past. His attitude was I've had cancer now I want to ride my bike, no fuss, he just got on with it, and he still liked to have a drink and party in the best Essex Crusaders tradition. Unfortunately, the cancer returned late 2009. John was one of those people that nothing was too much trouble for and he was always willing to give help if it was needed. A quiet person but great company to be with, he will be greatly missed by the members of the club. Our thoughts are with his wife, Barbara and their family at this sad time.

Page 3 Deputy Rep (North): C19 North meeting 10 th May 2010 Now the weather is improving it is good to see a few more at the meetings although once again we had to share the car park with the MG owners club. It was good to see Josh Greenwold and Darrin Oliver at the meeting, both new members riding XVS 650 s both purchased from Copes, some of you may remember Darrin and his yellow Sportster when he was a member up to 2005, glad to see he has seen the light as far as bike type is concerned!!!. On that note it would be good to see the other 4 new members at a meeting or ride out now the weather is better, so often people join the club and in spite of our best efforts we never see them, there is so much on offer so come on guys and gals lets meet you at some point. I had a call from Graham Fairbrass the other night, he was a member up to a couple of years ago but sadly let it lapse, and he would have been a 10 year member this year!! Anyway he tells me he wants to sell his XVS 1100 custom (with the bob tail rear fender ). It is a 2002 model in silver, has never seen rain, has all the shiny bits and is kept in a heated room, mileage 3800, I personally know this bike so if someone is looking to buy, this one is worth a thought, it is immaculate and he is looking for circa 4k, negotiable. I can let you have his details if necessary or it may be on the VSOC website by now, We are still looking for a deputy rep for the South of the county so if there is anyone out there who thinks they would be able to fill that position please let John know. I have just returned from the YCCB rally in Belgium with a touch of sickness and the trots along with most of the other Brits so clearly something was amiss, not one of my best rallies I have to say. There is a spare place in a 4 berth cabin going to the International rally in Holland on the evening of the 10 th June so if anyone is interested the cost is 89 return, please speak to me ASAP if interested. Although it is an all male cabin at present ladies would be very welcome!!! Don t forget the meet at Gt. Bentley is now one so if you fancy a Wednesday evening amongst lots of other bikers that s the place to be. Look forward to seeing all or most of you sometime this year Ride safe Peter

Page 4 Hastings On may day a few of us at the last minute decided to go to Hastings, now this is the first time I have done this run, and I will say it has nothing on the Southend shakedown. So there I was arriving at Thurrock cold and wondering why I am here, well better than being stuck in I suppose. As you can see from the photo we had a good turn out including new member Tracy, and another new member Lizzie who turned up to say hello, but never came with us, which I thought was nice of her to come and introduce herself, look forward to seeing both and I have learnt more new members as the season rolls on. I led the pack down to Hastings not losing anybody woo hoo. Had the usual hunt for public facilities and used a hotel. and then it was FOOD time so off we all went in search of this delight and had the best fish and chips I have had in ages, I then said my goodbyes as I went to se my brother down the road before taking the trip back home, all in all a good day with just a shower. Barton Mills Cafe Due to mixed feelings on going to Duxford a small group of us went B M instead, what a glorious hot day, yes I did say HOT the first 1 of the year for a ride that is. Summer gloves, no jumper not a chill to be had. John did his magnificent ride through country roads and 60 miles later well in need of refreshments, and to get leathers off wow another first. B L T baguette and mug of tea ordered, sat down and had the biggest BLT, it was worth the ride. And when it was time to come home John turned on his homing beacon and we had more fun with bends etc. Roadrunners here we come. Take care and ride safe! Bruce (munch) mmm! wonder why they call me that??

Page 5 Attaboy! This place is the bees knees, so get a wiggle on. Hoopty doo! There s a new hotspot in town. called Bobby Jo s. This ain t no backwater place in Hicksville it s in Southend, opposite the Sea Life Centre, and between The Kersall and Mulligans. It s a 1950s American themed eatery which is as straight and true as the seams in the waitress nylons. You can expect, whizz wow service with style and a smile. Delivered by staff that ll please your eye. Checkout that classy chassis! The dolls in full costume including haircombs, mascara and fullsize eyelashes. The Joes in Derby hats, designer shirts and dinky bow ties. The décor is just the cat s pyjamas. With seats as soft and as comfortable as the back seat of a 56 Chevy Impala and that s no baloney, cos that s what they probably were. They re pale pastel blue and white with the background walls in fresh candy pink. And all the time the repro jukebox plays jitterbug music in the background. This is a place you gotta see. The food is good, and the price is right. Hawaiian Breakfast @ 3.95 and as much tea or coffee as you want. It may be Hawaiian in name, but it s Limey in nature. Drink refills are plentiful and offered frequently. While the truckers breakfast seems to be double everything and Phil didn t manage to finish it. Can t remember seeing that before! Is it worth a plugged nickel? You bet it is! This could be the end of the Rose cantina, better all round by far. Only one bum note and that is if you want breakfast.be there before 11:30. Now surely that s a Brit element creeping in. And pancakes with maple syrup are classed as breakfast and no amount of your gum flappin is a gonna change it. So if you re in the mood for food, cruise along and you ll see that Bobby Jo s is a swell place to eat. Tell the big cheese that Cougar sent you. Marks : Eight out of ten. It s that 11:30 cutoff that loses a mark. View their website @ www.bobbyjosdiner.co.uk Getting there: For the best bends take the old route. Boreham / Hatfield Pevril / Maldon / Woodham Ferrers / Rettendon Turnpike / Battlesbridge / Hullsbridge / Ashingdon / Rochford / Little Wakering / Shoeburyness / Southend. Marks for the route, 8/10.
