Things to do in the area Shore Lodge bunkhouse is located on Arran within the grounds of Brodick Castle, Garden & Country Park the only island country park in Britain. Set against a stunning backdrop of mountain peaks and forested slopes, this comfortable bunkhouse is owned and managed by the National Trust for Scotland. Brodick Castle dates back many centuries, although the building today is mainly Victorian in style. The woodland garden is renowned for its impressive collection of rhododendrons, and the country park features waterfalls and woodland walks. Beyond the Brodick estate, the Trust also cares for Goat Fell, Arran s highest mountain at 874m, and Glen Rosa. Both of these can be accessed by foot from Shore Lodge. Explore Brodick Castle Kayak around the coast Shore Lodge is perfect for large groups of friends or walking clubs, and is ideally positioned for access to the country park, the coast and the mountains. Cycling Guided tours Walking There are a wide variety of routes all over the island, from the Balmoral Ride on your doorstep to gentle nature trails on forestry tracks, and of course the tougher String road across the centre of the island. For the enthusiastic, the 57-mile route around Arran offers fantastic views. Make the most of the NTS staff s expertise during your stay. They offer many varied events and guided walks, from painting tours of the castle to Land Rover safaris, rockpooling or garden walks. Arran is often described as Scotland in miniature and offers a tremendous variety of walks from the near-munro peak of Goat Fell to coastal paths and glens. There is a small car park at Shore Lodge that holds up to 4 vehicles. If travelling by car, we recommend booking with Caledonian MacBrayne as soon as possible. CalMac ferries run from Ardrossan to Brodick www.calmac.co.uk A bus (# 324) leaves the ferry terminal after every boat and stops at the entrance to Shore Lodge www.stagecoach.co.uk The nearest train station is at Ardrossan Harbour with a direct service to Glasgow www.scotrail.co.uk
