- The Road to Coos Bay Margie Linsky The Oregon Coos Bay State Rally was a success again this year. There were some set backs but that did not stop Chris and Eva from putting it on. Chris' Dad passed away in July and while riding his Harley motorcycle during the funeral procession, he had an accident. Luckily Chris was not severely injured and his bike is repairable. It did not stop Mike from putting on this rally and riding his old Harley. Approximately thirty-three members showed up for the Rally. Some stayed at the Fairgrounds others stayed at the Myrtle Trees Motel and a campground in the Bandon area near the ocean. Dick and Diana Price, Dennis and Marcia Sibel and I road as a group. They took their Harley Trike's and I had to take my car since my Spyder was in the process of being built. I was considered the Uber Driver for the dinners. I had the opportunity to ride on the back of Dennis' Trike along Highway 101. Zak let me ride on his Goldwing Trike to the dinner on Saturday. It was nice to be able to admire the view instead of concentrating on the road. We visited Sunset Bay Park and Bandon. Dick had the opportunity to babysit Sharon Willis's dogs while waiting for our Fish and Chips in Bandon. Anyway, we had a great time and I always love the Ocean. One of my best moments of the trip was Meeting Chris' Mom. I called her, "General", because of all of the Rally's she and her late husband ran at Coos Bay. She is a truly dedicated and special Lady to the UMCI. On our way home we stopped in Florence for breakfast at the Little Red Henfor an excellent breakfast. In Prineville we met a couple from San Francisco looking to move to the area in the next few years, we told them Idaho is a horrible place to live lol, just kidding, we re FULL. We had a good conversation at the Executive Inn. I am truly going to miss the Oregon Coast, the cool foggy mornings, and my friends I rode with. Now it is back to the heat and that four letter word (WORK). I am looking forward to coming back next year on my new Spyder. They plan on holding the Rally around the third week of August because of school. 4

6 Myrtle Point/Coos Bay Campout 2018 Diane Dunning We left on Tuesday and spent the night in Prineville. Wednesday we went over McKenzie Pass. It was sad seeing all the forests that have been burned over the last few years. We arrived in Myrtle Point in the late afternoon and there were already 15 people from Idaho there. Chris said they had 33 registered. Thursday we headed over to Bandon for our favorite seafood, shopping and free candy samples at the candy store. We can t head back to camp until we go to the creamery for ice cream. Great curvy road between Bandon and Myrtle Point complete with deer, some of which got a little too close for comfort. We rode to the port of Port Orford for a fantastic ocean view where we saw 2 whales. We stopped by the Cape Blanco Lighthouse where it was 59 degrees, then Misty Meadows for jam, jellies, and lotions. Friday we woke up to sunny 57 degrees. Chris and Eva made homemade biscuits, gravy and eggs for $3.00. We went to the Myrtle Wood Factory in Coos Bay and were sorry to find that it had closed down and was for sale. Rode on down the beach to Sunset Bay State Park and to Simpson Reef to watch and listen to the very noisy seals and sea lions perched on the rocks. Went back to Bandon again for more seafood and ice cream. Seven bikes participated in a poker run. Ann Baker won high hand and Dick Hohstadt low. Mid afternoon temp was 64 degrees. We enjoyed hot dogs with chili and all the fixings provided by Chris and Eva. We also had huge strawberries and melons, then did 50/50 and a bonfire. Saturday Chris and Eva made pancakes and eggs for $3.00. We ate at the Fisherman s Grotto with 37 in attendance. They had a buffet of popcorn shrimp, fried oysters, fried fish, and green salad for $14.00. That evening was another 50/50 drawing and giving out door prizes. Chris thanked all UMCI members who rode their bikes to attend his father, Virgil s, funeral. We had another bonfire. Sunday we headed out stopping by Crater Lake where it was a chilly 53 degrees. Spent the night in Prineville again. The next day we passed through Paulina and arrived home Monday evening. A big thank you to Chris, Eva, and Carol and all who helped with this year s campout. Chris said they are going to host the campout one week earlier next year.
