SUMMER 2016/2017 The official newsletter of The New Zealand Naturist Federation CLUB SECRETARY: Please distribute to your members & pin on Club noticeboard 2016, the year of many milestones It s summer in New Zealand! President s message president@nznf.nz I don t know if you feel anything like me, but that year just went by too fast! This time of year is traditionally a time to reflect on what we thought/hoped we would achieve and also reflect on the left-field things that may have happened to us. The Pohutukawa, New Zealand s Christmas tree. I hope on balance that your year panned out okay. In terms of the NZNF, I think that is certainly the case; more on that later. If you are travelling this holiday period please watch out for the other idiots on the road, and arrive safely at your destination. I hope you get enough downtime to recharge your batteries and spend time with the people who matter the most to you. The NZNF AGM and annual rally commence on 28 December and it s still not too late to register. Auckland Outdoor Naturist Club have a great week planned and I hope you take the opportunity to enjoy it. The World Congress of Naturism was held in Wellington between 16 and 20 November, attended by delegates, along with observers, spouses and partners, from 21 countries. While the delegates were involved in the business of the INF the spouses/partners were treated to excursions away from the venue. There will be a lot more information to come about the Congress but for now, on behalf of the Executive of the NZNF I would like to continued over... New Zealand Naturist Federation secretary@nznf.nz Tel 04 2347918 www.gonatural.co.nz

Wendy Lowe looks back at 2016 - continued from page 1 extend some special thanks to Kay Hannam, Donna Miller and June Campbell-Tong who were the organising team responsible for this milestone event in NZ naturism history. Also to the Wellington Naturist Club for being the host venue for this event. A lot of work has been done over the last few years to upgrade club facilities in preparation for Congress. All of the volunteers, without whom this event would not have been the success it was. There were some who went beyond the call of duty to entertain and care for visitors in the immediate wake of the earthquake and flooding in Wellington. To the clubs who hosted Congress visitors and made their tour of New Zealand more enjoyable than it otherwise would have been. Congratulations to all of you who are doing such a great job of running and growing your clubs. The hardships we are facing aging members, social media censorship, local attitudes are not unique to New Zealand and we are doing well compared to some overseas countries who are seeing greater reduction in numbers than we are in New Zealand. Well done everyone! I want to acknowledge the team behind gonatural, our national magazine: Michael Moore as editor, and Noel Thomas business manager, who both took over the reins after Kay Hannam s retirement as editor in 2015. The magazine celebrated it s 60th anniversary this year, a wonderful achievement. I hope you all get behind and support this magazine, as it is a great tool to help share our messages to the wider community. Lastly, I offer sincere thanks to each of the NZNF executive members; Hans van Asperdt, Kathy Earby, Tony Nee, Nick Lowe, Christine Bowers, June Campbell-Tong. These people volunteer their time, expertise, experience and knowledge to the Federation and we should be extremely grateful for their support of naturism in New Zealand. Merry Christmas everyone! - Wendy. It is proposed to hold a series of regional workshops during 2017. These workshops will be practical, hands-on and we will welcome any club member to attend, says NZNF president Wendy Lowe. We want to hear from the grass roots and make some real positive changes. Any club member will be welcome to attend and contribute. What would you like changed? What new ideas do you have that other clubs could learn from? How do you set targets to grow your club? Club newsletters & websites Please ensure your club newsletter is also sent to clubsecs@gonatural.co.nz. This way, every club can share your information and your events are then copied to the NZNF website. Please don t send any other general club emails (working bee etc) to this address. Does your club website need a change? Contact Hans on webmaster@nznf.nz Club Open Days How many open days is your club planning over the season? Don t be limited by one or two! Try at least once a month, and watch the new people in your community come in! Make them relaxed and friendly environments for newbies. Always collect their telephone number and an email address. It s a great idea to have application forms available on the day. Think about a lower joining fee, especially for younger folk. Follow-up those who came along and report back at every committee meeting. Membership planning is something that must be top of every agenda!
