WESTERN RUSSIA & SIBERIA AIRLINERS & AIRPORTS Optional 24-hours Extension: Yak-42 Flight PROVISIONAL ITINERARY & GENERAL INFORMATION Thursday, 15 th Tuesday, 27 th August Over 13 days we will travel 11,000 miles around Russia! In September last year we had a truly memorable 9-day tour flying all over Russia in some classic aircraft, including a flight on the very last Tu-134 flying scheduled services. We received many requests to organise a similar tour for this year and here it is: 13 days, starting in western Russia before travelling around the vast expanse of Siberia! The days of another Soviet classic airliner are also drawing to a close: the big cousin of the Tu-134, the Tupolev Tu-154. Book on this fabulous tour to fly on the latter! We intend flying on the scheduled services of the following airlines - and a great variety of aircraft: St Petersburg-Kostroma Kostroma Avia An-26-100 Vologda-Moscow VKO Vologda Air Yak-40 Moscow VKO-Tyumen UTAir Boeing 737 Tyumen-Novosibirsk Yamal Sukhoi Superjet 100-95LR Novosibirsk-Irkutsk Angara An-148 Irkutsk-Mirny Angara An-148 Mirny-Polyarny Alrosa An-24 Polyarny-Moscow DME Alrosa Tu-154 Moscow DME-Izhevsk Izhavia Yak-42 (optional see page 6) Izhevsk-Moscow DME Izhavia Yak-42 (optional see page 6) The following charter flights are currently available: St Petersburg Mil Mi-8 Kostrama An-2 Vologda Mi-2 and An-2 Plekhanovo Mi-8, Mi-26, AS350, AS335 and Ka-32 Mirny An-38 In arranging the flights, our Russian agent has spoken directly with his contacts at the airlines to determine the best routes offering the widest choice of airliners and types: the above are confirmed. As for our very successful 2018 tour, our agent also discussed with all the airports for ramp tours and access. These will take time as we are dealing with some airports that are unaware and suspicious as to why we are travelling so far to take photographs of aircraft. You should be aware that any confirmations may only be known shortly before the tour departs the UK or even upon arrival at the various airports. Some sightseeing tours have been arranged and included in the tour price, including St Petersburg, Oek, Baikal (a fabulous 4-hours cruise on Lake Baikal itself is an option at 80.00 per person) and Mirny. In Novosibirsk we visit the Tomachevo Aircraft Museum which has as an Il-86, Tu-154 and a Tu-154M. Tour 227927 - Russia - Airliners - Provisional Itinerary Issue 1 Page 1 of 11

Where possible we stay at airport hotels and mostly on a half board basis; but on a bed and breakfast basis in Mirny and room only in Tyumen and Udachny (Polyarny). We are travelling to some remote places and, although we have selected the best available hotels, in some cases do not expect the Ritz! Your Ian Allan Tour Manager is Ivo Pentchev a Bulgarian born, London policeman, fluent in Russian, who took last year s tour and is very knowledgeable of the Russian airline and aircraft scene. He has been instrumental in putting this itinerary together. As all our flights are on the scheduled services of the airlines with some aircraft having a small number of seats - we strongly recommend you book your place on this tour as soon as possible. The price of seats can increase until they are actually booked. A land only option is available on request and includes all the Russian domestic flights. PROVISIONAL ITINERARY (all times local and approximate) DAY 1: THURSDAY, 15 th AUGUST Between 06:30 and 07:20 please check-in with British Airways in Terminal 5 at London s Heathrow Airport. Then meet Ivo (your Ian Allan Tour Manager), and fellow enthusiasts who will be gathering by Column G, located in the Departures Hall immediately before the self-service check-in podiums (not the line of check-in and fast bag-drop desks). Latest check-in time advised by the airline is 2 hours prior to departure, i.e. 07:20. Heathrow Airport, Terminal 5 Flight: BA 878 Departs: 09:20 St. Petersburg Arrives: 14:45 After the usual arrival formalities we transfer to, and check-in for one night at the Ibis Hotel in the centre of the city, on a half board basis. This 3-star European-standard hotel has on-site restaurant and bar; wifi is available throughout the property. We are centrally located close to the Nevsky Prospekt, the main city avenue with the Hermitage, museums, restaurants and river boat cruises on the Neva River. Website: www.accorhotels.com/gb/hotel-6157-ibis-saint-petersburg-centre/index.shtml DAY 2: FRIDAY, 16 th AUGUST After breakfast we depart at 09:00 for a city tour accompanied by a local guide. Also, optional Mil Mi-8 sightseeing flight over St. Petersburg. A ramp tour of St. Petersburg is to be confirmed. Late afternoon we check-in with Kostroma Avia for our Antonov An-24-100 flight to Kostroma. St. Petersburg Flight: KB 18 Departs: 19:10 Kostroma Arrives: 21:10 Transferring into the city located on the mighty River Volga, we stay tonight in the Volga Hotel, on a half board basis. The hotel has a restaurant, bar and a rooftop terrace; there is free wi-fi throughout. Rooms have cable TV. Website: http://volgaclub.com/en/ DAY 3: SATURDAY, 17 th AUGUST Boarding our coach at 09:00 we spend the morning at the airport, from where we can charter an Antonov An-2: the famous, classical jack-of-all-trades workhorse. Details to be advised. Also, a tour of the city. As there is no direct link by air to our next stop Vologda we make the 174 miles journey by coach. Our route takes us past the city of Yaroslavl which has an airport so we will make a stop. Arriving in Vologda we check in at the Hotel Spasskaya for 2 nights on a half board basis. This hotel is located in the heart of Vologda with views over the city, and is near a large number of bars and restaurants. Just a 10-minute walk is the Vologda Kremlin. On-site facilities include restaurant, bar, bowling, billiards and free wi-fi. All rooms have a TV, a refrigerator and a private bathroom. The "Spasskaya" restaurant offers dishes of Russian and European cuisine. Website: https://bronevik.com/en/hotel/russia/vologda/spasskaya. DAY 4: SUNDAY, 18 th AUGUST This morning we return to the airport where optional charter flights over the local area will be offered in an Antonov An-2 biplane and a Mil Mi-2 helicopter. Annotate your booking form is you are interested. Today we are accompanied by a local guide for a tour of the city. Remainder of the day is free. DAY 5: MONDAY, 19 th AUGUST After an early breakfast we transfer to the airport and check in with Vologda Air for our Yak-40 flight to Moscow s Vnukovo Airport; latest check in time is 90-minutes prior to departure: 06:30. Vologda Flight: VG 2390 Departs: 08:00 Vnukovo Airport Arrives: 09:30 After retrieving our luggage we go along to Departures and check in with UT Air for our afternoon Boeing 737 flight to Tyumen. Boarding should start at approximately 15:10. Moscow Vnukovo Airport Flight: UT 463 Departs: 15:50 Tyumen Arrives: 20:35 On arrival we transfer to our hotel for the next 2 nights, the Hotel Liner, staying on a room only basis. There is a restaurant and bar on-site. A report on Trip Advisor states the hotel is used mainly by Russians, so although it advertises complimentary wi-fi, you can only access it if you have a Russian phone number. This is common across Russia when not staying in major cities so it s a good idea to buy a Russian SIM card when you first arrive in order to stay in touch. Website: http://www.tjm.aero/services/hotel/layner/ DAY 6: TUESDAY, 20 th AUGUST Leaving our hotel at 09:00 we spend some of the day at Tyumen Airport and at the city s general aviation airfield of Plekhanovo. From the latter possible, optional, charters include: Mi-8, Mi-26, Ka-32, AS250 and AS355. Details to be advised. DAY 7: WEDNESDAY, 21 st AUGUST This morning we return to Tyumen Airport and check in with Yamal Airlines for our Super Jet 100-95LR flight to Novosibirsk; we check in no later than 07:15. Tyumen Flight: YC 261 Departs: 08:45 Novosibirsk Arrives: 12:20 At the airport we visit the Tomachevo Aircraft Museum which we understand has an Il-86, a Tu-154 and a Tu-154M on display. At 18:00 we check in with Angara Airlines for their An-148 service to Irkutsk. Novosibirsk Flight: 2G 756 Departs: 20:00 Irkutsk Arrives: 23:10 We stay 3 nights at the Hotel Vozdushnaya Gavan on a half board basis; the hotel is ideally located only 200 meters from the terminal. There is a restaurant and bar on-site and wi-fi is free. Website: https://iktport.ru/en/passengers-en/hotel-vozdushnaya-gavan.html Tour 227927 - Russia - Airliners - Provisional Itinerary Issue 1 Page 3 of 11

DAY 8: THURSDAY, 22 nd AUGUST Today we first go to the small airfield of Oek. Google Earth right - shows a good number of interesting aircraft parked in lines. Then a city tour with a local guide. We also plan to spend time at the main airport photographing airliners as they land. DAY 9: FRIDAY, 23 rd AUGUST Departing the hotel at 09:00 with a local guide we enjoy a tour including Lake Baikal. A 4-hours cruise on the lake is optional at 80.00 per person. The lake is considered to have the cleanest water on the planet and is also thought to be the oldest lake at 25-30 million years of age. DAY 10: SATURDAY, 24 th AUGUST Today starts early. We check in no later than 05:30 with Angara Airlines for our An-148 flight to Mirny. Irkutsk Flight: 2G 711 Departs: 07:00 Mirny Arrives: 10:00 Remainder of the day is spent at the airport. As we did on our 2018 tour, we again plan to charter the only An-38 still left in service with an airline: Alrosa. Details to be advised. Price depends on the number of people eventually booking, please annotate your booking if interested. We stay 2 nights on a bed and breakfast basis at the Azimuth Hotel. There is a restaurant and a coffee house on-site. Wi-Fi is available throughout the property and is free. Website: https://en.azimuthotels.com/russia/azimut-hotel-mirny/ Mirny was the mine where the second largest ever diamond was unearthed. Although the mine is no longer being worked, the huge hole that was dug means light aircraft and helicopters are banned from flying over it due to the possibility that the downdraught of air can suck them into the crater. DAY 11: SUNDAY, 25 th AUGUST Today we have a city tour including the diamond museum. Remainder of the day is free. DAY 12: MONDAY, 26 th AUGUST Returning to the airport no later than 08:30 we check in with Alrosa for our An-24 flight to Polyarny. Mirny Flight: 6R 553 Departs: 10:00 Polyarny Arrives: 11:20 The remainder of the day is spent at the airport. Tonight we stay at the Hotel Yunbileynaya in downtown Udachny, on a room only basis as the hotel does not have a restaurant. DAY 13: TUESDAY, 27 th AUGUST After breakfast we return to the airport and check in with Alrosa for the 5-hour 10 minutes, Tu-154 scheduled service to Moscow s Domodedovo Airport; latest check-in time is 08:30. Change of Aircraft Type Our agent in Moscow has discussed at length with the airlines the types of aircraft undertaking the various flights and they are as shown on the itinerary. Aircraft can go unserviceable at any time requiring a replacement to be used. Ian Allan Travel cannot be held responsible should any of the airlines substitute another aircraft type. At the time of releasing the itinerary the airlines have confirmed the types of aircraft on each flight. Foreign & Commonwealth Office (FCO) Consular Advice The FCO's consular service is a major operation. Every hour of every day consular staff around the world are advising and helping British nationals. For up-to-date passport, visa and security information, we suggest you visit www.gov.uk/foreign-travel-advice In addition, the Association of British Travel Agents (ABTA) provides both a web site http://abta.com/gotravel and an Information Line, telephone: 020 3117 0599. This line is open between the hours 10:00 16:00, Monday-Friday (excluding bank holidays). Coach Travel only use coaches chartered from reputable companies, with a driver. Where we have had to cancel a tour, due to the small number of bookings, we have looked at the possibility of renting a 16-18 seater minibus, with our tour manager driving. However, without exception, the hiring of such a vehicle is illegal if any of the occupants make any payment towards the rental price, fuel and/or other expenses - known as for hire or reward. Any such rental, made without these facts being known to the rental company at the time of booking, also invalidates all insurance covering the vehicle, contents and persons. The DVLA has also confirmed that any for hire or reward rental could breach the normal driving classification of a standard UK driver s license. Therefore, we do not undertake any tours using 9-18 seater minibuses from a rental company; either with our tour manager, or a member of the group, driving. Passports and Visas Very nearly all nationalities require a visa to enter Russia. All visa applications in the UK have been outsourced by the Russian Consular (Visa) Section to a private company Visa Services UK Ltd and ALL VISA APPLICATIONS MUST BE DONE ON-LINE; there are NO exceptions. After completing the application form you must then make a copy, sign it and either mail or take it to Visa Services Ltd who are located in central London, along with the necessary supporting documents which we will provide. Full details and the application form are on their website: http://ru.vfsglobal.co.uk For UK Passport holders/residents we strongly recommend you take a look at the website of ASLA Select, the specialist company with whom we have worked for many years: they can usually get visas more quickly than the advertised time. In fact, we consider it best if you speak with them even before you start the process of completing the visa application form as there are certain things you can and cannot do on the form. For example, there can be no mistakes whatsoever; you cannot use hyphens or slashes; there is to be no gaps between numbers (i.e. on telephone numbers). Their specialist staff will be able to answer any questions you might have. Details of charges and the application form can be seen on their website: http://www.asla.co.uk/index.shtml Tour 227927 - Russia - Airliners - Provisional Itinerary Issue 1 Page 8 of 11

Citizens of the UK are required to be in possession of a Full UK Passport, which must be valid for at least 6 months beyond your intended departure date from Russia and must have 2 clean, facing pages. A tourist visa currently costs 108.40 (as of 1 st February 2019). ASLA will assist you in your application by checking that it has been completed correctly before you submit your documents for which there will be a small fee of 20.00. We strongly recommend you use this facility as they will make sure your submission is 100% correct. Whether you apply yourself or via ASLA you will need to make a personal visit to the Visa Office in either London, Manchester or Edinburgh so that they can take your biometric data (your fingerprints). All prices quoted are correct as of the 1 st February 2019 but are subject to change at the discretion of the Russian authorities. Please note that it is currently taking 20 days to process a tourist visa in London and during the peak months of July and August it could take longer. Full details on how to complete and submit the application (6 pages) will be sent to you on receipt of your booking. However, if you wish to see the details before you book please contact us and we will forward a copy. Baggage Regulations British Airways Departing from London s Heathrow Airport Checked Baggage: British Airways will transport 1 piece of checked baggage per person free of charge, the total dimensions of which must not exceed 190cm x 75cm x 65cm (75in x 29½in x 25½in), including the handle, pockets and wheels. Baggage Weight Restrictions UK Airports Since 1 st June 2004, any single piece of checked baggage weighing more than 70lbs (32kgs) has not been accepted at check-in by any airline operating from London s and many U.K. regional airports. Meals As stated, on this tour breakfast and most evening meals are included. At 2 hotels no meals are included in the tour price. Health Requirements There are no known mandatory or recommended precautions for visiting Russia; however, we recommend you consult your local doctor or health centre for the latest information. Climate You will be travelling around European Russia and central and eastern Siberia. The furthest north we go is to Mirny and Yakutsk where the average temperature in August is 19 C and 21 C degrees respectively. Other towns and cities on the itinerary are further south, i.e., at warmer latitudes. We therefore recommend you take summer clothing with a jacket for any cool evenings. Local Currency The currency is the Russian Rouble. For several years, in the major cities, it has been illegal to charge for goods or services in any currency other than Roubles, and no longer will taxi drivers or café/bar staff take other currencies like US Dollars, Euros or Sterling. Recent legislation has dramatically cut the number of places you can exchange money. Outside of the major cities, buying roubles can be difficult, and exchange rates, at least for Dollars and Euros, are not in your favour away from Moscow. If you want to carry cash, then bring it in one of those currencies. Or access your funds through an ATM machine; most of the airports on this tour have one. Credit and bank cards are now widely accepted in large shops, most restaurants (including fast-food outlets), and larger bars. Check before you order, however, as some businesses don't consider it a major problem if their card terminals are out-of-order for a few days. Visa and MasterCard are accepted almost everywhere, while American Express and Diner's Club can rarely be used. You should also be aware that, due to high instances of card fraud emanating from Russia, some Western banks need to be notified of your travel plans in advance, otherwise they may block your card automatically after the first time you use it in Russia, whether to make a payment or withdraw cash. Traveller's cheques are undoubtedly the safest option, but the problem is they might not be exchanged in those parts of Russia we will be travelling through. Travel Insurance For citizens of the United Kingdom, are able to offer competitive and comprehensive insurance cover. However, if you do not wish to take out our insurance, you must ensure that comparable or greater cover is taken. Full details are available on request. These policies also include cover for non-scheduled flights, i.e. pleasure flights, where the aircraft is licensed and insured to undertake such flights, and where a payment is made. NOTE: You will be required to provide proof of travel insurance with your visa application. Wheelchair Assistance at Airports. Anyone requiring wheelchair assistance at airports must have this service requested and confirmed in advance.
