We are no longer going to our sponsors every other Tuesday night due to lack of interest. The weather has not been very good and we had to cancel our chili dump, and December and January birthday dinners. Hopefully, we will get to have our February birthday dinner. A few suggestions for our chapter poker run for this year were towns containing the word city, a town from each county surrounding Macon County or towns with animal names or people's names. I would like to get lots ideas and we can maybe do more than one this year. We need to know if anyone is interested in going to Noah's ark this spring and if you are interested in a summer trip. Let me know if you are interested in either one and if you have a suggestion for a destination for the summer trip. A new sponsor will be added to the list this year, Harley's Hideout in Dalton City. We also lost The New Back Door as a sponsor but want to thank them for last year's sponsorship I would like to see our chapter have many activities this winter. We planned at least one game night a month during February and March but may not get one in for February. We need suggestions for activities so we can keep busy during the winter. We also need to decide if we still want to do a chili dump so that we can get a firehouse reserved. Remember to leave our sponsors a "Thank You" card when you visit them to let them know you have been patronizing their business. Let me know if you need more cards! Thank you sponsors for your generosity in donating our monthly door prizes. It is with your support that we continue to grow and bring a positive attitude to the world of motorcycling. Sponsors are always welcome at our monthly gathering and will be treated to a free breakfast. We are looking forward to your continued sponsorship in the future. See you at the next event! Steve Brungard February 2019 This Spring we are scheduling rider classes and MFA/CPR classes in Vandalia and Sterling. Dates for Vandalia are April 27 and 28, Saturday and Sunday. The schedule is: Saturday April 28 will be a trike class starting at 7:30am to approx. 11:30am class room, then break for lunch and start the range portion at 1:00pm to approx. 4:30pm. At 5:00pm we are heading down to Keyesport to the Keyes Restaurant. At the same time the rider class is conducted will be an MFA/CPR class starting at 7:30am to approx. 12:00pm then lunch. Those that want a Road Captains Course will be from 1:00pm to approx. 4:00pm. On Sunday just change out trikes for bikes, same time table. We will need a head count in able to have enough instructors for the Road Captains Course ahead of time. Sterling will be trikes Saturday May 4 with the class room starting at 7:30am and the range approx. 1:00pm. An MFA/CPR class starting at 12:00 to approx. 4:30pm. Sunday May 5 will be for bikes with MFA/CPR in the pm. This way for both locations if a trike rider needs an MFA/CPR they can take it on Sunday and a bike rider needing an MFA/CPR can take it on Saturday. This will all take place IF there is enough interest. The logistics of getting enough instructors for each location and each class has to be planned way ahead of time. We have 5 instructors coming from 2 other states to get certified for the bike courses in Sterling, so we really NEED bikes for Sterling. On Friday April 26, will be a District ride to Niemerg s Restaurant in Effingham, leaving Vandalia approx. 6pm, after we mark the range in Vandalia. Bob Adams will be leading this ride. Several of the District attended the annual IDOT Winter Motorcycle Conference in Springfield held each year, if in the budget, in December. They present a lot of statistics and numbers of accidents and injuries. Alcohol seems to be the predominate factor. Most of the dealings have to do with MSF and their connection with IDOT and colleges that provide the services for IDOT. In 2017 there were 168 motorcycle fatalities and so far in 2018 118. Also when asked about the riding habits of the MSF students as far as how many mile they ride average each year was 1500. The instructors also were told they would be getting a raise this coming year. 7
