The Plume The Chronicle of the Barony of Three Mountains Chronicler and Plume Editor - Elfreda Webminister & Adobe Support - Conchobar Clarsair Letter From Their Excellencies Greetings unto the Council and Populace of Three Mountains, We attended Kingdom Arts and Sciences in Mountain s Edge and Alfric was put on vigil for the Order of the Laurel! We will have a Three Mountains encampment at May Crown and encourage all to join us! To that end, in April we will have a silk banner painting day date and time TBD. Thanks to all of you who attended the customary meeting, the Sergeantcy and the Orders meetings. We feel that a lot was accomplished and we always appreciate your input. We have decided to postpone the Arts and Science portion of the Champions competition until later in the year to enable competitors to adequately prepare. Andrew will continue as Champion until the new competition is held. Yours in Service, Alfric & Jill This is the April, 2007, issue of the Plume, a publication of the Barony of Three Mountains of the Society for Creative Anachronism, Inc. (SCA, Inc.). There will be contests in storytelling, vocal and instrumental music. Extra consideration is given for period styles and pieces in this contest. Don t be shy, we love getting new people to enter their first Bardic contest. A Subtlety contest will be held with the entries presented at the feast. Other contests include: Children s equestrian games, children s coloring contest, a Best period item from shipboard contest (extra points for documentation). It is absolutely not true that we are having a pirate-ship building contest. We have decided to have a pirate fleet building activity. (No, this is not a troop build-up in order to attack the Kingdom of the West. Darn.) We have several volunteer admirals, all of whom meet the minimum requirement of being over 18 and trustworthy with scissors. The crewmembers who sign up with them will each build a little craft of their own (probably of tag board), and work together to help build a flagship for their little fleet. A Grand Regatta will take place at the feast to display their work for the members of the high table. What s a pirate activity without a treasure chest? We hope to leave a treasure by filling an old trunk with non-perishable food items to donate to the food bank of our generous hosts, who also let us use this building for our winter fighter s practice. If you are so inclined, you may bring a donation to fill the chest. Three Mountains Baronial Council Meeting March 20, 2007 7:03 pm, Golden Jade, PDX In Attendance: Jill, Malcolm, Morwyn, Conchobar, Liadan, Aleyn, Helena, Elizabeth Llandaff, Agatha, Vostroi, Ersebet, Temair, Muirean, Duncan, Selveggia, Aedan, Alexandria, Elfreda, Marsona, Giana, Slaine, Eleanor, Hlutwige, Ataias, Rusudan, Ilona, Olin, Khalja, Valkyrie, Ansgar, Ulfred, Marguerite OFFICER S REPORTS: Seneschal: Helena Present- March has been a rather interesting month. Aleyn and I attended the business meeting of the Incipient Canton Kaldor. It was an interesting and productive meeting. The annual revision of the Customary took place on 10 March 2007. Consensus could not be reached on the proposed amendments to Section VIII, 2C(iii). Discussion on this item will continue at a special meeting called for that purpose. The Council of the Exchequer approved expenditure for the combined Customary/Orders meeting in the amount of $150. Total expenditure will exceed that amount by approximately $25 due to the pizza being more expensive than anticipated. A request will be made to Council to approve the additional expenditure. I also had a very productive meeting with Their Excellencies to discuss the state of the Barony. The Kingdom seneschal have informed the all the seneschals that deputies to officers have to be warranted as well. Deputies need to have a specific task and/or function. The only exception to this are contingency deputies. This requirement also means that all deputies need to have current membership. The forms for warranting are here tonight and all deputies should please complete one and have it signed by the appropriate people. If you are not sure if you should be warranted please talk to the officer or me for clarification. All officers are reminded that quarterly reports are due in April and that in terms of Kingdom Law copies of all reports should be sent to me as well. In service to the Barony Helena Stock Clerk: Meri Absent - Nothing to report Dean of Pages: Marguerite - Present-Nothing to report Baronial Council Chatelaine: Ersebet - Present -No report Gold Key: Present -Nothing to report. Herald: Office open - Nothing to Report Scribe: Eleanor Present - Paint night is going well and is well attended. We are painting GT s for First Court. Chronicler: Conchobar (acting) - Present- All comp copies of the March Plume were delivered electronically on February 21st, 2007. The responses received from the Kingdom Chronicler and others were quite favorable. A detailed spreadsheet of the remaining subscription liabilities was prepared for the Baronial Exchequer and Seneschale s review. Cost for mailing and printing these copies was FREE!

Historian: Aubrey Absent - Nothing to report. Web Site: Conchobar - Present- I have an email out to the An Tir web team to see if 3M can have our website appear as part of the An Tir domain and to inquire about getting officers email thru them. Dance: Slaine - Present - Greetings, Dance practice is nearing its end for the season. The last practice is on the 30th. We will also have dance at First Court. YIS, Slaine inghean Ui Mhaille Armorer: Aleyn Present - Griffin s College was cancelled due to conflict with Kingdom A & S, so I did not teach. Marshal: Meri Absent - Nothing to report. Rapier: Selvaggia Present - Written report Marshallate: New Rapier Combat Rules have been approved and posted to the NW Rapier site. I am still reviewing the rules. So far the only two major changes are the ones I mentioned last month and are listed below for your review: Please note: I gave the practice gorgets to Aleyn the Younger last month and we are without practice gorgets while they are being upgraded. Due to a clarification of the rapier rules at the Society level, all of the leather gorgets in the Baronial Rapier Gear will need to be upgraded to metal gorgets or to have metal plates place on the current ones. Another major rule change will be the banning of fiberglass blades. This will make the Baronial Dagger obsolete as of March 10th, because it is made of fiberglass. This will leave the barony without a practice dagger. (Cost to replace about $60.00) Practice: Nothing New to Report: Practices continue at the Multnomah Arts Center. Don Gregorio is covering the first Monday practices as I am unable to attend. Other Information: Enclosed is an inventory list and status of the Baronial Rapier kit with replacement recommendations. Dragon s Mist has rapier practice on Sunday afternoons. I have a Three Mountains, Stromgard and Dragon s Mist rapier e-mail list. E-mail me at the above address for subscription info. MONEY TALKS: Liadan - Money Talks Follow Up Our new gate boxes arrived and have been updated. They are quite spiffy. The box for State Park events was transported to the Sport of Kings meeting for the autocrat team to review. New forms were designed to reflect our requirements for tracking on these sites. Additionally, I did some consolidation and organization of the gate supplies and site set up supplies in general. The boxes were returned to the Seneschale to go back in to storage or to the First Court autocrat team. OPEN OFFICES: Constable, Herald, Marshall, Archer, Chirurgeon, Lists and Chronicler open. Application for Lists : Greetings unto The Barony of Three Mountains, My name is Disa Beadsdottir and I am your current list mistress. However, since my time in office is up I need to put in my application to reapply. I really enjoy doing Lists and I have plans for starting some List related classes to be started at my house before Tourney season starts. Hopefully we can get a great turn out for these and I can then recruit some deputies. Thank you for your consideration, Disa Beadsdottir Application for Marshall :Unto the Baron, Baroness and the populace of 3 Mountains : I would like to offer my skills to be applied to the office of Knight Marshal. Three Mountains Champions - June 9, 2007 Marsona - Autocrat Your Excellencies and populace, My name is Lady Marsona of White Mountain and this is a proposal to autocrat June Champions. To make light work of the event, I am working with a team to include Lady Rusudan and Baron Vostroi, both being active members of the Society also represent great team members and, between the three of us we have over 30 years of experience. Over the past two and one-half months, prompted by the Barony s urgent need for a site, we have worked hard to find an event site that would allow archery, fencing, and armored combat AND provide adequate facilities, including decent parking space and flush toilets. We trust, given the urgent situation, the Baronial Council will find this proposal suitable for Champions Tournament. 13

Editor s Note: If you were wondering where we were at First Court, here is the answer. We got wrapped up in the complete redesign and production of this, the first electronic edition of The Plume (or eplume, as we ve been calling it ;-) The redesign was to take advantage of many things that became possible once we left paper behind - the use of color, not being forced to have the number of pages be an even multiple of four, making type large enough for aging eyes, and a change in page size. We are excited to bring you this new format, and thank you for your support. Let us know what you think. Ever in Service, Conchobar & Liadan 15
