MEMBER OF RESEARCH ORGANISATIONS AND CLOSE COLLABORATIONS Head of the British node within the Columnaria Network, an international network of research groups specialised in the history of the global borders of the Iberian monarchies, coordinated by Tamar Herzog, Gaetano Sabatini, Pedro Cardim and José Javier Ruiz Ibáñez. My closest collaborators include José Javier Ruiz Ibáñez (University of Murcia), Enrique García Hernán (CSIC), Harald Braun (University of Liverpool) and Marco Penzi (EHESS). ONGOING CONTRIBUTIONS TO THE FIELD

I am completing a single authored monograph on Anglo-Spanish relations in the 17 th century (to be published by I. B. Tauris), an edited volume on religious violence (to be published by Brill) and coordinating two dossiers in top journals. One on violence and the circulation of goods, knowledge and cultures for Historia Social and another on Confessional conflict, networks and cultural transfer on trans-national perspective for Culture and History Digital Journal published by CSIC. Early achievements track-record FIVE REPRESENTATIVE, INDEPENDENTLY-AUTHORED PUBLICATIONS: 1. Irish influence at the court of Spain in the Seventeenth Century (Dublin: Four-Courts Press, 2008), Positively reviewed in 7 occasion (Itinerario, H-Net, Hispania, European History Quarterly, Renaissance Quarterly, Irish Economic and Social History y Huntington Library Quarterly). 2. With Enrique García Hernán (eds), Irlanda y el Atlántico Ibérico: movilidad, participación e intercambio cultural. Ireland and the Iberian Atlantic: mobility, involvement and Cross-Cultural Exchange (1580-1823), Valencia, Albatros, 2010. 3. With José Javier Ruiz Ibáñez (eds), Los exiliados del rey de España, Madrid, Fondo de Cultura Económica, 2015. 4. Global trade, environmental constraints, and Local conflicts. The case of Early Modern Hispaniola, in Aram, Bethany, Yun-Casalilla, Bartolomé (eds.), Global goods and the Spanish empire, 1492-1824, London, Palgrave-MacMillan, 2014, pp. 230-254. 5. An Irish Black legend? 1641 and the Iberian Atlantic in: Ohlmeyer, Jane, O Schiochrú, Micheál (eds.), Ireland, 1641: contexts and interactions, Manchester, Manchester University Press, 2013, pp. 236-253. One of the main characteristics of my research has been the international focus applied to the subjects researched subjects. My thesis dealt with the informal diplomacy unfolded by English and Irish migrants into the Spanish Monarchy and was supervised by prof. Laurence Fontaine (EUI) with the expternal supervision of prof. Fernando Bouza Álvarez (Complutense University, Madrid), which required the comparison and transnational perspective over sources in nine European countries (publication n. 1). My postdoctoral research period in the Moore Institute of the NUI, Galway (Ireland) under the supervision of prof. Nicholas Canny, allowed me to develop an Atlantic dimension to my research, focusing on the Irish migration and integration into the Great Antilles. It is an ongoing work which has kept growing after my incorporation to the UPO thanks to the extensive availability of sources at the Archivo General de Indias in Seville. The most important partial result is the collective work edited together with prof. Enrique García Hernán from CSIC (publication n. 2). My ideas on the political nature of the Spanish Monarchy have been expanded through a global perspective on exile which has allowed to reframe my earlier work on the English and Irish exiles, and put them into the context, needs and power dynamics of a global power. This work has been greatly advanced thanks to the collaborative work with prof. José Javier Ruiz Ibáñez (University of Murcia), one of the leaders of the Columnaria Network. One of the most important result is the work listed as n. 3, which offers a global interpretation of the Spanish Monarchy in the Early Modern period as an space not only of rejection and forced migration, but also of reception of exiles coming from all the neighboring territories in Asia, Europe, Africa and America. This approach has been developed together with a new attention towards the material dimension of circulation, paying attention to the circulation of goods and ideas that accompany the migration and exile of people (publication n. 4) and the identification of the connection of the violent episodes in the frontiers of the Early Modern Empires and the beginning of the identification of hegemonic fears and processes of dehumanization (publication n. 5) which gave birth to the present project.
