2017 Chapter Z Directors Paul & Cheryl Engelman October is typically the last month of riding season (at least for scheduled rides) so we have many things planned, we will start off the month with our annual Fall Festival on October 7th, this is our only fundraiser of the year and we also give a portion of our profits to a local charity. This year we have decided to give to two charities that are very near and dear to our Chapter, Toys for Tots and Ride For Kids, please come out and invite your friends and families for a fun filled day!! On October 14th we will take a sammich ride to Garden of the Gods State Park in southern Illinois (and I seem to remember a great ice cream stop near-by). On October 17th our monthly dinner ride will be a Share Night at Culver's in Arnold, this is where we invite all of our family and friends to come out and eat at Culver's. Chapter Z members will be delivering food and cleaning off the tables for 10% of all sales between 4:00-8:00 pm, the money we earn from this will be for Ride For Kids. Please watch a sign-up shift at our monthly gathering. On October 22 nd we will have a Fall Color State Park Ride, this will be another Sammich Ride and we will visit three state parks. Please watch your emails for impromptu rides as the weather allows. Paul & Cheryl Engelman engelman5@sbcglobal.net 314-537-6518
2017 Assistant Chapter Directors Hello friends hope you re all enjoying the great weather for riding your wings. Z has had some great rides this month. Unfortunately we have missed a lot of them. We had our daughter and son in law and our two granddaughters home from the army for the last two weeks. We love you all and the rides but we only get to see them a couple times a year so we are sorry we haven't been around. The rides had great turn outs. First ride was Echo Bluff State Park with 19 members attending. Next was Onondaga Cave ride that also had 19 members. Warm Springs Ranch was a great event, 25 members enjoyed the visit with the Clydesdale horses. Our monthly dinner ride was to Ginnys and again 19 members attended. The Illinois ride in had 13 Z riders attending. The final ride was the Bikes and Badges ride that 15 Z members attended. We are looking forward to some beautiful fall colors to start off our Oct. riding and don't forget our Fall Festival too. Ride Smart and Stay Safe. Vern & Pat Watts
2017 Rider Educators Les & Sara Gibson Boy, where did the month of September go. We have had some great riding weather during the last month. Chapter Z keeps its members busy with a ride almost every weekend. Sara and I have not been making a lot of the rides due to our traveling to distant rallies. When we were in Texas at Wing Ding 39 there was a sudden panic and gas became hard to find. You are wondering what this has to do with Rider Education. When you are out riding, whether on a short trip or a long vacation keep in mind that surprises can pop up unexpectedly. As educated riders, we want to be prepared for these little surprises. Filling up before putting your bike away, carrying extra fuel, packing extra coolant if on a long trip would be a good idea. A tire plug kit and compressor is a VERY smart idea. Finding a motorcycle shop open on Sunday is rare. Most of us are aware of some of the changes being made in GWRRA. Sara and I have not attended any of the rider modules yet. Most of the members I have spoken to have a positive outlook on the new changes being made. I have spoken about an Illinois State Trooper who gives a class on street survival. If you are at a rally where he is giving this class please attend, it will be of great benefit to you and those around you. Trooper Watson encourages everyone to get all the rider education they can. I agree you can always learn something that may save your life or someone else s. Remember, Friends for fun safety and knowledge, and I encourage everyone to share their knowledge of safety with their friends. Please do not try to force feed anyone with your knowledge, and make sure the knowledge you are sharing is CORRECT! Remember, you make the final decision, Ride safe.
Our Motto... Share the Road! Our Mission... To Facilitate A Reduction In Motorcycle Crashes With Other Motor Vehicles. MARK & SHARON MEYER Motorcycle Awareness Summer is over, but Chapter Z is still staying active and going strong. Still a lot of riding season left and the best weather for doing it. If you need new brakes, tires, etc now please don't say you'll wait until you park your bike for the winter. It is not worth the risk to ride unsafe. Our annual Chapter Z Festival is coming up on October 7th at Arnold city park and hope you can attend and join in the fun and hosting it. We will all be taking rides to look at the fall colors in near future, but please stay focused on your ride when looking at the scenery. And finally a special Thank You to the 26 Chapter Z members who gave up their Sunday afternoon to pay their respects for Sharon's father who passed away. Until you are the recipient of this kind gesture you do not fully grasp how much it means and how proud you are a member of this Chapter Z family. As the old add states "You meet the nicest people on a Honda" revised to "You meet the best Chapter Z people who ride a Honda Goldwing!" Ride Smart and Ride Safe!
