Welcome to Kenotes a publication for bars, taverns, restaurants and clubs selling the Ohio Lottery KENO game. It s time for great college basketball. Soon, the Ohio Lottery joins in the fun with its own triple shot play -- a complimentary $1, 3-spot play good for three consecutive drawings with a $20 single-ticket purchase of Keno. Have fun -- suit up and share the offer with your Lottery-playing customers. It s our way of saying thank you to all who share a love of the game. See pages 4 and 5 for details. In this issue, we shine a spotlight on O Leary s Pub & Grub of Centerville. Meet owner Steve Butterfield and learn about his business which more than doubled its Lottery sales in the last four years. JL Manny s Restaurant, Sandusky Class of FY18, Keno Million Dollar Club Many retailers like O Leary s have taken advantage of the Ohio Lottery s Retailer Incentive Program and sales here have taken off. See how well our bar/tavern retailers have done in 2018. Starting on page 12, take note of the Original Keno Retailers from northern Ohio who joined the Ohio Lottery in 2008, and are still with us today. We recognized original Keno retailers from southern and central Ohio, as well as the Mahoning Valley, in the fall 2018 issue. Look for the celebration of original Keno retailers to continue through August. If you re looking for more, check out the latest sampling of customers and retailers winning with Keno and other Lottery games. Retailer Spotlight: O Leary s Pub & Grub, Centerville Retailer incentive program bonus recipient: Q1, Q2, Q3, Q4 2018. Steve Butterfield retired once for three months before purchasing the business that became O Leary s Pub & Grub in 1991. The Chicago native spent several decades in the hospitality industry before going into business for himself, and never looked back. Steve owned and sold a small bar, but his retirement was brief. He knew he wanted an Irish-themed bar, and that became O Leary s. The new location offered double the space and a full kitchen. After seeing how Lottery vending could free up staff for priority food and beverage service, Steve became a licensed Ohio Lottery retailer in August 2014. He focuses on customer service and cashing. He benefits by having several long-time employees. All are well-versed in selling Lottery games. We always want to be a full-service operation, says Steve. Customers don t have to go somewhere else to cash. That teamwork has helped O Leary s increase Lottery sales by 55% over the last year. He said a general understanding of Keno by customers and promotion of winners in his establishment have been a big part of that success. One of his longtime customers recently hit for $4,400 on Keno. The winner, a retired golf pro, typically visits O Leary s a couple times a week. He generally goes home with a smile, says Steve. That s the pay off. Kenotes! Winter/Spring 2019

Customer appreciation O Leary s Pub & Grub offers a variety of activities to interest patrons, from Trivia Nights to a friendly game of darts. This year, O Leary s gave the Ohio Lottery a spot in its annual holiday Christmas cards. Over the course of three days, O Leary s employees handed out holiday greeting cards with a $2 bill (just like Steve would receive growing up) and a holidaythemed ticket from the Ohio Lottery. Steve says he received a few nice comments from the gesture and a few modest winners as well. Plans for 2019 Steve is exploring new ways to advertise his business and possible changes to the menu. Keep the New Year momentum going Keno/Booster sales are up 6.83% for the first 33 weeks* of the fiscal year. How does your business compare? How are your Lucky One, EZPLAY and Touch & Win sales compared to the prior year? Take the challenge and consider setting a stretch goal for each of these games in 2019. Try these sales tips: Have Lottery point-of-sale items? Prominently display Keno, EZPLAY and winner information by your lottery station and on tables around your bar. Celebrate your Keno winners. Keep a small Keno winner display board. Help out your customers by cashing winning tickets up to $599. John s Korner Bar & Grill, Toledo Class of FY18, Keno Million Dollar Club Want a detailed financial picture of your Lottery business? Have questions? Set up a meeting with your Lottery sales representative. *Through Feb. 2, 2019. Celebrating KENO winners From July through December 2018, more than 10.8 million players shared $139.9 million in prizes playing Keno. What s that mean for retailers? Keno is fun and keeps players in your establishments. Keno-playing customers use their winnings to purchase other items available in your establishment and play additional Lottery games. Mr. Ed s, Port Clinton Class of FY18, Keno Million Dollar Club Kenotes! Winter/Spring 2019

DJ Corner Pub, Columbus Class of FY18, Keno Million Dollar Club Support Responsible Gambling What you can do 1. Be vigilant and prevent underage gambling at your business. 2. Share information about the odds of winning and the rules of games. 3. Review the Ohio Lottery s responsible gambling training video. Cedar Downs, Sandusky Class of FY18, You ll be glad you learned more about responsible gambling and how you can be helpful while assisting your customers. Generate awareness.
