For Immediate Release 2016TRAN0383-002575 Dec. 2, 2016 NEWS RELEASE COMMUNIQUÉ Evergreen extension officially open to the public (disponible en français en bas de page) COQUITLAM The Evergreen extension, which will bring efficient rapid transit service between Coquitlam, Port Moody, Burnaby and Vancouver, was officially opened today by B.C. Premier Christy Clark, and Dan Ruimy, Member of Parliament for Pitt Meadows-Maple Ridge, on behalf of the Honourable Amarjeet Sohi, Federal Minister of Infrastructure and Communities, and representatives of the project s partners. Construction of the Evergreen extension, its stations and public plazas created an estimated 8,000 direct and indirect jobs during construction. The project is now complete and trains are ready to start taking passengers at noon today. The opening celebration at Coquitlam Central Station was launched with an inaugural ride by the representatives of the project s partners along the Evergreen extension. Round-the-clock efforts by people involved in the many aspects of the project allowed for the Evergreen extension to open under budget. The $1.431 billion project has been delivered between $70 million and $85 million under the budget set in 2008. The extension will carry 70,000 people per day by 2021, reducing traffic congestion in the rapidly growing cities of Coquitlam, Port Moody and Burnaby. The Government of Canada, the Government of British Columbia and TransLink funded the project. Now that construction is complete, TransLink will be responsible for operating the extension. The 11-kilometer Evergreen extension runs fully separated from traffic. With seven stations that include bus connections, parking (Moody Centre, Coquitlam Central and Lafarge Lake- Douglas stations) and bicycle facilities, this is a significant new link to Metro Vancouver s SkyTrain system. Evergreen will provide frequent and convenient SkyTrain service, connecting Coquitlam City Centre through Port Moody to Lougheed Town Centre in about 15 minutes. With the Evergreen extension now open to the public, Metro Vancouver s SkyTrain system is the longest fully automated and driverless rapid transit system in the world. By taking Evergreen, passengers can now travel by SkyTrain from Lafarge Lake-Douglas Station in Coquitlam to Lougheed Town Centre in Burnaby in approximately 15 minutes, and from Lafarge Lake- Douglas station and downtown Vancouver in 45 minutes. 8,000 The number of estimated direct and indirect jobs generated during construction. $1.431 billion Funding for the Evergreen Line Project was provided through a partnership between the Government of Canada, the Government of B.C. and TransLink: The Government of Canada has contributed up to $424 million ($350 million from the Building Canada Fund, $67 million from the Public Transit Capital Trust Fund, and $7 million from the P3 Canada Fund), The Government of B.C. has contributed $586 million, with other partners contributing $21 million. Pour diffusion immédiate 2016TRAN0383-002575 2 décembre 2016 COMMUNIQUÉ Cabinet de la première ministre de la Colombie- Britannique Ministère des Transports et de l Infrastructure Ouverture officielle de la ligne Evergreen COQUITLAM Réalisée au coût de 1,43 milliard de dollars, la ligne Evergreen a été officiellement inaugurée aujourd hui par la première ministre de la Colombie-Britannique, Christy Clark, par le député de Pitt Meadows-Maple Ridge Dan Ruimy, au nom de l honorable Amarjeet Sohi, ministre fédéral de l Infrastructure et des Collectivités et par les représentants des partenaires dans ce projet. Ce prolongement offrira un service de transport rapide et fiable entre Coquitlam, Port Moody et Burnaby. La cérémonie d ouverture à la station Coquitlam Central a débuté par un voyage inaugural sur la ligne Evergreen. «La ligne Evergreen était fort attendue. Il s agit d une excellente nouvelle pour la Colombie- Britannique», a déclaré la première ministre Clark. «En ajoutant la ligne Evergreen au réseau SkyTrain de Metro Vancouver, nous sommes en mesure d offrir aux usagers plus d options pour leurs déplacements, et de leur permettre de se rendre à destination plus rapidement. Voilà une preuve de l engagement de notre gouvernement à améliorer les déplacements quotidiens et la qualité de vie des Britanno-Colombiens.» La construction de la ligne Evergreen, de ses stations et des places publiques est achevée, et les trains sont prêts à transporter des passagers dès aujourd hui. «Le gouvernement du Canada est fier d investir dans les infrastructures qui contribuent à la croissance de la classe moyenne en lui permettant d avoir accès aux services et aux moyens dont elle a besoin pour se développer, tout en réduisant la congestion routière et en favorisant les moyens de transport à faible émission de carbone», a affirmé Dan Ruimy au nom de l honorable Amarjeet Sohi, ministre de l Infrastructure et des Collectivités. «Félicitations à tous ceux et celles qui ont travaillé à ce projet; il s agit d une belle réalisation. Vous avez contribué à créer un réseau sécuritaire, efficace et fiable pour vos familles, pour vos amis et pour les personnes qui visitent notre collectivité.» Grâce aux efforts incessants déployés par les personnes ayant contribué à bien des facettes de ce projet, il a été possible d ouvrir la ligne Evergreen en respectant le budget établi et en devançant le calendrier prévu. Il a aussi été possible de concrétiser ce projet de 1,43 milliard de dollars en réalisant des économies de l ordre de 75 à 85 millions de dollars par rapport au budget initial de 2008. «Je suis reconnaissant envers toutes les personnes dont le travail ardu a mené à la réalisation de ce projet de transport essentiel, pour qu il soit prêt aujourd hui, et ce, tout en respectant le budget établi», a souligné le ministre des Transports et de l Infrastructure, M. Todd Stone. «L investissement dans les transports constitue une grande priorité dans le cadre de notre plan de transport décennal B.C. on the Move, et la ligne Evergreen contribuera à réduire la congestion routière et à faire adopter le transport en commun par un plus grand nombre de personnes, en leur permettant de se rendre là où elles veulent aller.»

«La ligne Evergreen aura des répercussions positives sur le développement des collectivités habitables», a déclaré M. Peter Fassbender, ministre du Développement communautaire, sportif et culturel, et ministre responsable de TransLink. «Avec l ajout d un autre moyen de transport en commun rapide, fiable et durable dans la région, plus de personnes cesseront d utiliser leur voiture, ce qui entraînera d importants avantages sur le plan de la santé en rendant les routes moins encombrées et en améliorant la qualité de l air.» Soixante-dix mille personnes par jour emprunteront le prolongement d ici 2021, ce qui réduira la congestion routière dans les villes de Coquitlam, de Port Moody et de Burnaby, dont la croissance est très rapide. «La ligne Evergreen constitue une partie importante du réseau de transport dans le Lower Mainland», a assuré la députée provinciale de Port Moody-Coquitlam, Mme Linda Reimer. «En reliant les municipalités des Tri-Cities au réseau SkyTrain de Metro Vancouver, la ligne Evergreen contribue à une meilleure intégration de notre réseau de transport et offre aux usagers un moyen plus rapide et plus pratique de se déplacer.» Le gouvernement du Canada, le gouvernement de la Colombie-Britannique et TransLink ont financé le projet de prolongement. Maintenant que la construction est achevée, TransLink sera chargée d exploiter ce prolongement. «Nous sommes très heureux que ce prolongement soit mis en service aujourd hui. Il s agit d une réalisation importante pour nos clients», a dit M. Kevin Desmond, président-directeur général de TransLink. «En offrant un service plus rapide et plus fréquent, nous sommes en mesure d offrir aux usagers plus d options de transport et par le fait même, de réduire la congestion routière et de favoriser la croissance économique du secteur nord-est. Afin que cette transition se fasse en douceur pour nos clients, nos équipes mobiles seront présentes partout sur le réseau aujourd hui et la semaine prochaine.» Le prolongement de 11 kilomètres est complètement séparé du reste de la circulation. Grâce à ses sept stations reliées à des lignes d autobus, aux stationnements et aux installations pour vélos, la ligne Evergreen constitue un nouveau lien important avec le réseau SkyTrain de Metro Vancouver. Elle assurera un service SkyTrain rapide et fréquent et reliera Coquitlam City Center, en passant par Port Moody, à Lougheed Town Centre en 15 minutes environ. La ligne Evergreen, maintenant ouverte au public, fait du réseau SkyTrain de Metro Vancouver le plus long réseau de transport rapide entièrement automatisé et sans conducteur du monde.
