ADOPTION OF THE MINUTES 2.1 IACDI Minutes February 21, 2013 SECONDED: MEMBER MARCIE McLEAN MEMBER CHERYL McLACHLAN That the Intermunicipal Advisory Committee on Disability Issues Minutes from February 21, 2013 be adopted as presented. CARRIED. 3. Old Business 3.1 User Friendly Trail Guides now at Recreation Centre & Municipal Halls Marnie advised that the User Friendly Trail Guides are now available and have been placed at recreational facilities, Municipal Halls, The West Shore Chamber of Commerce, Tourism Victoria, etc. She advised she would send out a complete list via email. We want to get them out and if anyone needs more she has some or they can contact Bobbi. She asked that members let Bobbi know where they place them so the tracking list can be kept up to date to avoid duplication. She noted that feedback so far has been good and it is important that the Feedback surveys are completed and returned. Marcie McLean asked how the surveys were being circulated. Bobbi Neal said they were being circulated as bookmarks in the book and on the website and will be coming soon. Bobbi Neal informed the committee that there was an opportunity to attend a Tourism Trade Show, cost for participation is $150.00 which is in the budget, it will be held on Wednesday May 15, 2013 at the Victoria Conference Centre. Bobbi circulated a draft for the proposed vertical banners, these will be rotated around communities to promote the guide and a vehicle decal is planned for the future. After group discussion it was recommended that the following changes be made to the banners. - Website and quick response (QR) code be added - First quote remain as is - Second quote to stop at the word neighbours - Third quote to be second half of second quote they contribute to the overall quality of life and the well-being of all residents of the region. 2.1. Intermunicipal Advisory Committee on Disability Issues Minutes April 18, 2013 Page # 3 She then circulated pictures of the proposed T-Shirts and advised that they were designed to be a bit edgy to capture the public s interest. The committee made the following recommendation - That the word experience be removed and the quote finished with It is anticipated that both the vertical banners and T-Shirts will be ready for the Tourism Trade Show next month. Marnie attended recent Seniors Expo which was well attended. Lots of Seniors came out and there were Medical and Home Support Companies in attendance. IACDI will consider having a table at the event in 2014 and will further promote the User Friendly Trail Guide. 3.2 B.C. Recreation & Parks Conference Whistler May 1 3, 2013 Marnie thanked WSPR for getting IACDI the early registration fee of $463.00 and advised she had managed to get an accessible rate of $404.74 for the 3 nights, which she paid for on her VISA card. Costs that still need to be covered are ferry, gas, and meals and she asked for a motion to cover these expenses. The picnic will be held on Thursday June 20, 2013 at the Metchosin Community House in the farmers market area from 6:15pm to 8:15pm. Councillor Day asked if members would be interested in having a group of musicians attend to provide entertainment. The offer was accepted with enthusiasm and the Chair said it would add great value to the event. Marnie wished to express appreciation to Colwood Public Works department who supply the wood for the IACDI Picnic campfire and to Metchosin Fire Department who allow the campfire at the IACDI Picnic every year. This is a huge part of the picnic. 3.7 Witty s Lagoon Interpretive Day Marnie announced that the accessible trail at Witty s Lagoon from West Mont School to the teaching shelter is complete. The great news is that CRD has advised that the accessible washroom work will be starting. This work will start soon and therefore, the Interpretive Day will be postponed until then. Marcie McLean asked if this would be CRD s Assessment Project for 2013, Marnie said she believed it was. If there were any ideas for CRD s next Accessible Project please feel free to let Marnie know. 2.1. Page 6 of 9

Bobbi Neal noted that the next part of this initiative was signage, Councillor Day suggested the IACDI logo could be placed on a Telus Pole in the car park. 3.8 IACDI Business Cards Marnie advised that Herma had quoted $88 plus tax for both sets of cards which was reasonable and supported local business. There was further discussion regarding the thickness of the blue border around the card and it was decided to go with the narrower blue edging. 3.9 IACDI Rack Cards Marnie advised that she did not have a chance to update the Rack Cards. The following suggestions were made of what to include in the Rack Cards: - Basic Information, who we are, when we meet - Website, email, & twitter accounts - Committee s Mandate, who can join - Disability for a Day - Measuring up Grant - User Friendly Trail Guide - Top 5 things we have done Marnie said she would work on it. Councillor Day noted that shorter is better; it can be fine-tuned later on. SECONDED BY: COUNCILLOR DAY BOBBI NEAL That IACDI print 200-300 Rack Cards once a draft is approved CARRIED 4.0 New Horizons Grant- Bobbi Neal, WSPR, shared that the New Horizons Grant application for Accessible Golf Carts has been declined. 4.1 The upgrades to the accessible washrooms in the Field House have been approved. 4.2 RRU Walkabout Marnie noted that once it was sunny, Roger has offered to guide us through some trails at Royal Roads University. A time, date, and place to meet would have to be arranged and anyone interested is welcome to come along. There is no guarantee that the trails are completely wheelchair friendly. The group is interested in mapping out the trails. Cynthia advised that there is a new app. available that will map a trail while you are walking it. The app. is called Map My Walk. Marcie asked if Royal Roads was aware that Roger and IACDI were doing a trail evaluation. Marnie advised it was not intended to be a trail evaluation, but to a) identify 2.1. Page 7 of 9
Intermunicipal Advisory Committee on Disability Issues Minutes April 18, 2013 Page # 6 how many trails were on Royal Roads Property, b) how many are accessible c) if there is a trail at Royal Roads that we could feature and d) if so, how we can share this information. Cynthia asked Marnie to Tweet out the information once the details are finalized. Marnie said she was leaning towards a Saturday afternoon. 5. New Business 5.1 Mother s Day Paint in Volunteers Needed Mother s Day Paint-In will be held on May 12, 2013 at RRU from 10-3 and Colwood will be having a tent which IACDI is invited to join and volunteers are needed. 5.2 Bike to Work Week Celebration Station The Colwood Celebration Station will be hosted on Monday May 27, 3:30 5:30pm and will be located across from the entrance to Royal Roads University. This will give a two hour opportunity to promote the Guide and it is always good fun with lots of freebies and giveaways. Those who wish to volunteer are asked to let Cynthia know. Cynthia Day suggested that the committee might like to invite the Scooter Community to come out and support the station. IACDI thought this would be a good idea. 5.3 Grant in Aid-Marcie asked about an application IACDI had made to Metchosin for a grant recently for the IACDI Picnic. Marnie said yes this had been submitted and if we receive these funds, they would support the IACDI picnic as it is held at the Metchosin Community House. Marcie noted that all grant applications should first go through the committee. It was agreed that IACDI Grant in Aid Applications would be put on the agenda every January. 7. NEXT MEETING The next meeting is scheduled for Thursday, May 16, 2012 at 7:00 p.m. at Colwood Municipal Hall, 3300 Wishart Road. 8.
