NMT UPDATE
NMT Updates - Existing NMT 1 NMT 2 NMT 3 NMT 8 NMT 9 NMT 10 NMT 11 NMT 12 NMT 14 NMT 15 NMT 16 NMT 17 NMT 18 NMT 19 NMT 20 NMT Locations Beddington Harvest Hills Beddington Renfrew Inglewood Mayland Hts. Mayland Hts. Castlerdige Whitehorn Temple Hidden Valley Skyview Ranch Martindale Albert Park/Radisson Heights Rundle NMT 21 Marlborough 9
NMT Updates Location To assess the NMT locations we looked at: 1. Flight tracks over the area 2. Residential communities near the tracks 3. Existing NMT locations We focused on the main five types of operations we have at YYC: North arrivals North departures South arrivals South departures Crosswind operations 10
NMT Locations North Arrivals Existing Albert Park Inglewood Mayland Heights Potential locations Evergreen Douglasdale Riverbend/Ogden Downwind Chestermere Signal Hill Edgemont/Hawkwood 11
NMT Locations North Departures Existing Hidden Valley Skyview Potential location Airdrie New north communities 12
NMT Locations South Arrivals Potential location Airdrie Downwind Signal Hill Edgemont/Hawkwood 13
NMT Locations South Departures Existing Renfrew Inglewood Mayland Heights Marlborough Rundle Potential locations Signal Hill Riverbend/Ogden 14
NMT Locations Crosswind Existing Martindale Whitehorn Temple Castleridge Hidden Valley Beddington Potential locations Chestermere Ogden 15
NMT Locations The idea is to cover the existing gaps with the roving monitor program Evergreen Douglasdale Riverbend/Ogden Chestermere Signal Hill Hawkwood/Edgemont All existing NMT locations will be further evaluated for placement as equipment gets updated on a yearly basis (estimated two replacements per year)
Roving NMT Roving NMT program will run from May to September of each year. Each location will be monitor for 4-weeks. There will be a maintenance week scheduled in-between locations The initial idea is to cover the existing gaps with the roving monitor program. Each year s roving monitor program will be discussed with the ACCC in the first meeting of the year.
Virtual NMT Requests not covered by the roving noise monitor can be covered with Virtual Noise Monitor (VNM). VNM can be placed at any location in the greater Calgary area and are used to provide generalized information regarding aircraft noise in that area. VNM is a computer model that converts flight track information into predicted aircraft sound levels. The model does not account for terrain specifics, and it does not include ambient noise

NAV CANADA August 23, 2017 NAV CANADA UPDATE James Carr Manager, Calgary Tower Operations, Tower and Terminal Procedures
NAV CANADA OVERVIEW RNP Usage Update Runway Utilization
NAV CANADA REQUIRED NAVIGATION PERFORMANCE Further leverages satellitedriven navigation methods. Part of national airspace modernization program. Maintain safety, while improving efficiency and reducing environmental impact. Implemented May 12, 2016 180-day review completed (updated provided at April ACCC meeting)
NAV CANADA COMPARISON OF 6 MONTH PERIODS ~3,100 approaches in first 6 months ~4,400 approaches in next 6 months 41% increase period over period More pilot requests Gradual increase in equipped fleet Still a relatively small portion of overall traffic
NAV CANADA RUNWAY USAGE Balancing Weekend Departures Current operation Land 2 Depart 1 Workload optimization and managing complexity are critical components of safety From a safety perspective the airport layout and infrastructure supported departing the west parallel Goal Improve the balance of departures from each of the parallel runways on weekends without compromising safety International passenger terminal as an opportunity Changed the distribution of aircraft and created an opportunity
NAV CANADA RUNWAY USAGE Weekend 17L/17R Departure Proposal Conduct a trial Begin October 2017 Run for 6 months Evaluate and consider options Alternate the primary departure runway on weekends (0700 to 2300) when 17s are active 17L is the primary departure runway on odd weekend days when 17s are active 17R is the primary departure runway on even weekend days when 17s are active Measure Runway utilization Safety reports Stakeholder feedback Communication Notice of trial on YYC website
NAV CANADA RUNWAY USAGE Weekend Departure Proposal Expectations Runway usage for departures on the 17s will become more balanced on weekends Aircraft may still depart from the other runway Weather Operational requirements Construction Not all departures will be straight out Aircraft will arrive on both runways Aircraft will continue to fly over Calgary and the surrounding areas NAV CANADA will always err on the side of safety Fail safely philosophy The trial may stopped or amended at any time
