Issue 57 June 2018 Palmers Green Palmers Green Safer Neighbourhood Team News Burglary has decreased from April to May. A number of rented garages have been broken into where bicycles and power tools had been stored. Please look at your garage s security and think of installing a battery powered alarm if electricity in not available. Also think of setting up an account at www.immobilise.com to record the serial numbers on your power tools and bicycles. There was one distraction burglary this month where three males pushed their way in making out there was an emergency water leak. Please be aware when answering the door. Use a chain if fitted. Look through the spy hole if fitted and ask for ID before admitting someone you don t know. If in doubt don t let them in. Motor vehicle crime has decreased significantly after last month s huge rise. We are still seeing a number plates being stolen in areas along the North Circular Road. Please fit a set of tamper proof screws which we can supply or you can purchase at your local motor shop. One victim of keyless car theft had their vehicle returned after males were seen acting suspiciously near it in Ilford. They have now purchased a Faraday security pouch to prevent this happening again. There have been two mopeds stolen from outside the owner s houses which were not secured in any way. Please think of buying extra security for your moped in the form of chains, disc locks and ground anchors. Fit a cover as then your bike is not easily identified. For further advice see https://www.met.police.uk/crime-prevention/theftof-a-vehicle/theft-motorcycles-scooters/ There have been a number of elderly and vulnerable victims of fraud recently. Call have come from people saying there are either police or bank fraud investigators saying the there is a problem with their account and they need to transfer money to a safe account to assist in an investigation. The police or bank would never ask you to do this. Another victim was convinced by a male saying he was a police officer that the cash she had at home was fake after he convinced her to 'test' the money. She then handed the cash over to a male who attended her address to collect the money. The male was very persistent and continued to call her again after she hung up on him. Please talk to your elderly relatives and neighbours to warn them of these scams and see the last page of the newsletter. Last but not least officers from Cockfosters, Highlands, Southgate wards a cannabis factory was closed down just off Palmers Green ward in Bowes. Enfield Borough

Welcome to the latest Palmers Green Ward Safer Neighbourhoods Newsletter. This edition covers the crime figures on Palmers Green Ward for May 2018. Crimes Recorded this month There were 87 recorded crimes on the Ward during this period. Burglary There were 7 residential burglaries, 2 attempted residential burglaries, 1 distraction burglary and 2 garage burglaries reported this month. DORCHESTER AVENUE, between 5pm, 3rd May and 12.25pm, 4th May. Rear window was forced open to gain entry. Untidy search of the property and drawers and cabinets opened. Unknown if anything was taken. ECCLESBOURNE GARDENS, 9th May between 2pm and 2.25pm. Victim returned home to find inner front door was smashed and suspects had been in the loft. Doesn t appear anything was taken. Porch door was not double locked. THE WALK, FOX LANE, 9th May at 12.24pm. Three male suspects knocked on the door and made out there was a water leak emergency and pushed inside. Two took the husband outside to the end of the garden and the wife found one searching through her jewellery in the bedroom. At which point they all ran out. ELMDALE ROAD, 9th May at 2.20pm. Porch door was forced open by two males who were wearing hooded coats. On forcing open the internal wooden door they have come face to face with the victim who was in but hadn t answered the door. They have then run away, driving off in a car which was parked further down the road. PALMERSTON CRESCENT, 12th May between 10pm and 10.30pm. Side door of ground floor flat was been partly forced open damaging the door frame and bottom half of the glass paneling. Back gate to the garden was found ajar as if they had made off through the garden. ELMDALE ROAD, between 7pm, 12th May and 12.19am, 13th May. Side gate forced open and then rear back door to gain entry. Appears they may have left through the front door as this was also damaged. Nothing appears to have been taken. BARROWELL GREEN, between 12.01am, 8th May and 7pm, 12th May. Entry gained to rear garden possibly through the neighbour s insecure garden and over the fence to the victim s house. Rear garden door was forced open and house subjected to an untidy search. HAZELWOOD LANE, 13th May between 3am and 3.10am. Front door forced open and tidy search completed. Documents, jewellery and Euros were taken which were found by an early morning dog walker and returned. The Euro notes were not. BARROWELL GREEN, 17th May at 6.13pm. Entry gained via the rear garden and the window to the lean to. Jewellery and hard drive were taken. NORTH CIRCULAR ROAD, 22nd May between 11.30pm and 11.35pm. Banging was heard from the front door and when the victim checked he found two males throwing what he believes was stones at the door. The glass to the side of the door has cracked. The front door shows no signs of damage. DEVONSHIRE CLOSE, between 7pm, 22nd May and 8am, 27th May. The victim noticed a new lock had been put on the garage he rented and when he got in he found all his tools have been stolen. DEVONSHIRE ROAD, between 2pm, 26th May and 11.30am, 28th May. Rented garage in Devonshire Close was broken into. Bikes and power washer were taken. Locks broken with bolt cutters and bike chain cut through to remove the bikes which were still locked together. LIFT - LOCK - REMOVE Please remember to double lock your front doors whether you have a UPVC door or have a Yale and mortice. If you also have a UPVC porch door then double lock that too. If you have the security installed, then please use it.

Please also consider the use of timer switches to light your houses up after dark if you are not yet home. LOCKING A UPVC (THREE OR FIVE POINT LOCKING SYSTEM) DOOR. We still offer all residents the opportunity of having a crime prevention survey carried out on their home. Simply contact us via the details on this newsletter to arrange an appointment PLEASE TAKE NOTE OF THE INSTRUCTIONS FOR DOUBLE A number of burglaries could have been prevented this month if residents had double locked their doors. If a UPVC door is not locked with a key the door is left very weakly secure with a very small piece of metal keeping it secure. This point by the lock is where the suspects target with their screwdrivers or crow bars and can pop your door open sometimes with very little effort. Motor Vehicle Crime There were 17 thefts from motor vehicles and 11 thefts of motor vehicles reported in April. NORTH CIRCULAR ROAD, between 3.10pm, 28th April and 9.23pm, 3rd May. Van was previously set fire to and since then the rear lights and key which was stuck in the back door have been taken. LIGHTCLIFFE ROAD, 8th May between 9am and 12pm. Vehicle found open and items from the glove box found discarded on the front passenger seat. NORTH CIRCULAR ROAD, 9th May between 2.30am and 1pm. CRAWFORD GARDENS, 9th May between 5am and 7am. Van damaged and drill stolen. NEW PARK AVENUE, 13th April between 6pm and 9pm (late report). Number plates were stolen from the victim s vehicle.
