OUR BUSINESS Etihad Airways, the national airline of the United Arab Emirates, was set up by Royal (Amiri) Decree in July 2003. Etihad Airways commenced operations in November 2003, and in 11 years has become one of the fastest growing airlines in the history of commercial aviation. This airline has received a range of awards that reflect its position as one of the world s leading premium airline brands, including World s Leading Airline at the World Travel Awards for five consecutive years. Its main business is the international air transportation of passengers. Etihad Airways also operates Etihad Cargo, Etihad Holidays and Etihad Airport Services, as well as managing a global loyalty program and other aviation and non-aviation related businesses. Q3 2014 AND 2013 COMPARISION Key Indicator Q3 2014 Q3 2013 Variance Total revenue (US$ B) 1.8 1.4 +29% Partnership revenue (US$ M) 352 245 +44% Passengers (M) 3.9 3.0 +30% ETIHAD AIRWAYS REVENUE INCREASES 29 PER CENT IN Q3 2014 Etihad Airways has reported total revenues of US$1.8 billion for the third quarter of 2014, an impressive increase of 29 per cent year-on-year, achieved on the back of accelerated passenger and cargo growth during the summer. A total of 3.9 million passengers travelled with Etihad Airways between July and September this year, 30 per cent more than the three million passengers from the same period in 2013. Etihad Cargo also outperformed the global market, carrying 144,498 tonnes of freight and mail during the third quarter, a year-on-year increase of nine per cent, on only one per cent capacity growth. The growth in passenger demand and revenue during the three month period once again outstripped the airline s capacity intake, highlighting the strength of its long-term growth strategy. Etihad Airways remains on track to achieve its strongest ever annual results, having carried 10.5 million passengers and almost 415,000 tonnes of cargo between January and September 2014. Organic growth was supported by codeshare and equity alliance partnerships in the third quarter of 2014, delivering an estimated 1.1 million passengers onto Etihad Airways flights (+41 per cent year-on-year) and contributing revenue of US$352 million, which represented 27 per cent of the airline s passenger revenue. HIGHLIGHTS (August September 2014) Q2 financial results show continued improvement, driven by US carriers But worldwide airline share prices fell 4 per cent in September, reflecting investor concerns over weak economic data in some regions and the spread of the Ebola virus Jet fuel prices eased further in September as increased supply and a fragile demand outlook pushed crude oil prices down to levels not seen since mid-2012 US passenger yields remain up on a year ago, but weakness continues in other regions Air travel volumes continue to expand strongly and the trend in air freight volumes remains positive, supported by improving conditions in Asia and the US, including a rebound in trade volumes Growth in available seats slowed further in August to an annualised rate of 3.5 per cent, below expansion in demand Passenger load factors rose on the back of strong expansion in volumes, but air freight load factors eroded some of the improvement in previous months with a 0.4 per cent fall in August compared to July YTD 2014 vs. YTD 2013 RPKs ASKs PLF FTK AFTK FLF Africa 0.9% 3.7% 68.4% 4.2% 2.2% 29.5% OUR BUSINESS - 2014 FLEET 120 100 105 89 80 70 60 64 53 57 40 37 42 20 22 2006 2007 2008 2009 2010 2011 2012 2013 0 120 110 100 102 80 86 79 81 69 60 59 43 50 40 20 2006 2007 2008 2009 2010 2011 2012 2013 0 DESTINATIONS (passenger and cargo) PASSENGERS (M) 12 11.5 10 10.3 10.5 8 8.3 7.1 6 6.0 6.3 4.6 4 2.8 2 2006 2007 2008 2009 2010 2011 2012 2013 0 80% 81% 75% 75% 78% 78% 76% 70% 74% 74% SEAT FACTOR (%) 65% 69% 60% 60% 55% 50% 45% 2006 2007 2008 2009 2010 2011 2012 2013 Asia Pacific 6.8% 7.7% 77.5% 5.2% 5.9% 54.7% Europe 6.1% 5.7% 81.2% 2.7% 2.9% 46.5% Latin America 6.5% 3.5% 79.7% 0.3% 0.3% 40.7% Middle East 12.2% 10.0% 80.1% 9.6% 8.5% 44.2% North America 2.7% 2.2% 84.5% 3.0% -0.2% 34.7% Total market 5.8% 5.6% 80.3% 4.5% 3.5% 45.0% RPK: Revenue-Passenger-Kilometers; ASK: Available-Seat-Kilometers; PLF: Passenger-Load-Factor; FTK: Freight-Tonne-Kilometers; AFTK: Available Freight Tonne Kilometers; FLF: Freight Load Factor; All Figures are expressed in % change Year on Year except PLF and FLF which are the load factors for the specific month. OUR COMMUNITY Etihad Airways continues to drive economic growth According to the latest study by leading UK think tank, Oxford Economics, Etihad Airways and its partners continue to play a crucial role in supporting and driving economic growth in the UAE. The airline s growth and sustained commercial success are good for Abu Dhabi. The economic contributions are classified into four key areas: direct (within Etihad Airways), indirect (suppliers to Etihad Airways), induced (spending of direct and indirect employees), and catalytic (impacts on other industries). The Etihad Airways, together with its equity partners, subsidiaries and joint-ventures, contributed a total of US$15.6 billion to Abu Dhabi s GDP in 2013. This represents 12.8 per cent of the non-oil GDP of the Emirate. In addition, it supported 180,000 jobs in total. Direct Indirect Induced Catalytic FUTURE CONTRIBUTION (US$ B) 2013 2015 2017 20 16 12 8 4 Direct economic contribution: The airline contributed US$3.3 billion to Abu Dhabi s GDP in 2013. Indirect economic contribution: Etihad Airways made an indirect economic contribution of US$1.7 billion and supported an additional 23,323 jobs in 2013 through fuel purchases, maintenance and repair, airport rental and landing fees, marketing, advertising, IT ventures and communications. Induced economic contribution: An induced GDP contribution of US$1.6 billion and 22,296 additional jobs can be attributed to money spent during 2013 by employees of Etihad Airways and its suppliers. Catalytic economic contribution: Etihad Airways played an important role in improving air links between Abu Dhabi and the rest of the global economy, and the airline s expanding network was a key factor in encouraging businesses to invest in the Emirate and the UAE. These activities provided a catalytic economic contribution of nearly US$9 billion, and supported nearly 118,484 jobs in 2013. Etihad Airways was also a key contributor to the development and growth of tourism in the UAE, carrying 11.5 million passengers through its hub in Abu Dhabi. Etihad Airways encourages staff to Give Together The sustainability agenda of Etihad Airways is framed under the TOGETHER initiative which comprises four key elements; Growing, Working Giving and Greener. The Giving component incorporates the airline s efforts to support the wellbeing of local and global communities, and recognises that its employees can play a major role in support of these efforts. Recognising this, Etihad Airways sustainability team recently launched the ivolunteer program, a wide-ranging initiative to encourage employees to engage in community-related activities and support the work of local charities across the UAE and in other parts of the world. The first group initiative to be organised under ivolunteer was the participation in a community support activity in Abu Dhabi using funds donated directly by the airline. Fifty volunteers from the program donated their spare time to shop for gifts which were distributed to 330 women living in a workers community. The volunteers also distributed hot meals in collaboration with Abu Dhabi Cause Connect, a UAE-based community group that is dedicated to increasing creative collaboration between causes, communities and companies. To encourage further collaboration the sustainability team held a leadership workshop for staff enrolled in the ivolunteer program, with motivational speaker Jules Lewis providing examples of her involvement in various community and corporate social responsibility activities around the world. http://www.froggystyle.biz http://www.froggystyle.biz 10
