COMPETITIONS There will be a number of competitions on Saturday. Here is a list of the ones you can prepare for: Atlatl Throwing (make your own, if you can). Scouts should try to make their own, examples are included in this Leader s Guide, but there will be some we can share with those who don t make their own. Tomahawk Throwing - you can bring your own, if you wish. Knife Throwing - same as tomahawk, you can bring your own. Bola Throwing (make your own, if you can). There are web sites that can help. Here s one: http://www.instructables.com/id/making-a-bola/ Flint and Steel Fire Making - team competition. Knots - instruction followed by competition. Lashing/Stretcher Race. Paleo Cooking - bring a meat, such as a Cornish hen, small whole chicken, pork roast or beef roast. Must be cooked over a wood fire, so bring appropriate wood for cooking. Quality and flavor will be judged, so consider spices. Blacksmithing Demonstration A friend of Troop 5 will set up either a Civil War or Roman era blacksmith area and will demonstrate how a blacksmith in that time period practiced their trade.
Example Atlatl During the Camporee there will be an Atlatl competition. Atlatls and safe darts for the competition will be provided, but troops are encouraged to build their own Atlatl(s) to bring and use in the competition. This can be a fun troop project to help learn and prepare for the camporee.
