Ward, 540-387-5238 SALEM 69 Jen.Ward@vdot.virginia.gov - The following is a list of forecasted highway projects that may impact traffic traveling in the 12- county Salem Transportation District this week. Work schedules and construction project timelines are always subject to change and weather dependent. New information is noted by "NEW" and updates are noted when a current project has had an update added to the listing. The Salem District covers Bedford, Botetourt, Carroll, Craig, Floyd, Franklin, Giles, Henry, Montgomery, Patrick, Pulaski, and Roanoke. On the 511 website, drivers can also sign up to receive personalized traffic alerts, view traffic cameras or download the free Android or iphone mobile app. ROAD MAINTENANCE: VDOT performs the following activities as part of routine maintenance on roadways throughout the district. To submit a work order request for road repairs or assistance, contact our customer service center at 800-FOR-ROAD (800-367-7623) or submit online at www.virginiadot.org. PAVING OPERATIONS Weather permitting, crews will pave, patch and repair pavement on various routes. Lane closures may be in place and flaggers may control traffic at times during daylight hours, 7 a.m. to 7 p.m. Drivers should watch for signs and expect possible delays. DITCHING, GRADING, SLOPE AND SHOULDER REPAIRS Lane closures may be in place during daylight hours for shoulder repairs. Watch for flaggers controlling traffic. PIPE REPLACEMENTS Crews will be working on various secondary roads to replace pipes under the roadway with periodic lane closures during daylight hours on weekdays. Watch for flaggers controlling traffic. DRAINAGE MAINTENANCE Crews will be working on various secondary roads where drainage issues are present with periodic lane closures during daylight hours on weekdays. Watch for flaggers controlling traffic. MOWING, TREE TRIMMING AND BRUSH REMOVAL (VARIOUS ROUTES) Crews will mow on secondary routes during daylight hours on weekdays. Watch for lane and/or shoulder closures. UNPAVED ROAD MAINTENANCE Crews will be working on various secondary non-hard surface roads grading and replacing stone with periodic lane closures during daylight hours on weekdays. Watch for flaggers controlling traffic. GUARDRAIL REPAIRS - Lane closures may be in place for guardrail repairs at various locations. Work will be performed during daytime hours from 9 a.m. to 3:30 p.m.

- 2 - PAVING INFORMATION: VDOT now offers coverage of tracking paving progress statewide, which allows community members and stakeholders to view specific locations slated for paving and individual details of each project. Paving season typically extends from April to November and the map is updated weekly to detail exactly where paving projects are planned, ongoing and show how they re progressing to give residents and travelers a tool to use to best plan for travel and stay safe near these work zones. Drivers can get specific information about the status of paving projects at the Virginia Roads Paving Map or www.virginiaroads.org. (NEW) * I-81 BRIDGE DECK REPAIRS Weather permitting, crews will repair bridge decks on Interstate 81. Right and left lane closures will be in place northbound and southbound during nighttime hours, 9 p.m. to 6 a.m. the following morning. Drivers should watch for signs and expect possible delays. (UPDATED) * I-81 NORTHBOUND AT EXIT 105 NEW RIVER BRIDGE REPLACEMENT IN MONTGOMERY COUNTY Lane and shoulder closures may be in place near exit 105. Lane closure may be in effect during the week from 8 p.m. to 7 a.m. Shoulder closures may be in effect at any time during the week. Speed limit is reduced to 60 miles per hour in the work zone. Shoulder closures will remain in place though the duration of the project. Estimated completion: December 2020. Potential flagging operations on Route 605 bridge construction from February 25, 2019 to March 1, 2019. (NEW) * I-81 BRIDGE REPLACEMENT AT EXIT 114 IN MONTGOMERY COUNTY The bridge replacement of the two Interstate 81 bridges over Route 8 is underway. Temporary lane closures, traffic shifts and road detours may be necessary during construction. Depending on the final design of the project, the estimated construction duration could be 24-30 months. Speed limit will be reduced to 60 mph and a temporary traffic signal will direct traffic on Route 8 throughout the duration of the project. Access to all properties will be maintained during construction. Estimated completion is July 2021. Speed limit has been reduced from 70 to 60 mph in the work zone in the vicinity of exit 114. I-81 Northbound: Left lane closure from mile marker 114 to 115 on Sunday, February 24 through Thursday, February 28, from 9 p.m. to 6 a.m. I-81 Southbound: Left lane closure from mile marker 114 to 115 on Sunday February 24, through Thursday, February 28, from 9 p.m. to 6 p.m.

- 3 - Routine maintenance activities in progress. (NEW) * I-77 BRIDGE DECK REPAIRS Weather permitting, crews will repair bridge decks on Interstate 77. Right and left lane closures will be in place northbound or southbound during nighttime hours, 7 p.m. to 6 a.m. the following morning. Mile markers impacted are from North Carolina line to mile marker 2 and mile marker 14 to 11. Drivers should watch for signs and expect possible delays. (NEW) *GUARDRAIL INSTALLATION - Work on guardrail will continue on southbound I- 77 between mile marker 8.0 to mile marker 2.0 at various locations. Alternating closure will be in place during nighttime hours, 6 p.m. to 9 a.m. the following morning, Sunday through Friday. * 10 TH STREET IMPROVEMENTS PHASE 2 Work is under way to improve the second section of 10 th Street from Andrews Road to Williamson Road in the City of Roanoke. The operational improvement on 10 th Street will include wider travel lanes, bicycle lanes, curb and gutter, sidewalks, turn lanes and new signals. A detour is in place for the section from Williamson Road to Greenhurst Avenue. Work is being performed between Levelton and Greenhurst Avenue. 10 th Street will be closed to through traffic in this area during the day while work is being performed and reopened in the evening. Local traffic can expect flagging operations within the work zone at various times and locations. This project will continue until fall 2019. * BRIDGE PAINTING-I-581-NSRR-CAMPBELL AVENUE - Platform Installations are underway for bridge painting and will have alternating lane closures in both north and southbound lanes on I-581 between the interchange of Route 24 and Route 11. From mile marker 0 to mile marker 1, the north and southbound right lane will be closed between 9 a.m. and 3 p.m., Monday through Friday and 8 a.m. to 4 p.m., Saturday and Sunday, for platform removal. Work will be performed under the bridge from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. with flagging operations as needed. Work is Sunday night through Friday morning. This work will continue until Winter 2018-19. * ROUTE 220 EXPRESSWAY During nighttime hours, lane closures will be in place as paving, marking, and guardrail replacement work is conducted on Route 220 Expressway from south end of Albemarle Avenue overpass to the Route 419 overpass.

- 4 - (UPDATED) * ROUTE 220 BRIDGE REPLACEMENT OVER BACK CREEK - Work to replace the existing bridge over Back Creek is under construction. The bridge is near the intersection of Route 657 (Crowell Gap Road and Winter Drive). Estimated completion is spring 2020. The right northbound shoulder will be closed from 9:00 am to 3:00 pm until further notice. Weather permitting, there will be right lane closures between the hours of 9:00 am and 4:00 pm on Route 220 northbound lanes between Route 715 and Route 676. Drivers may experience lane closures and a reduction to one lane during the hours of 9 a.m. to 3 p.m., daily. (UPDATED) * EAST MAIN STREET IN SALEM Work is underway along Route 460 east and westbound lanes, from Brand Avenue to Thompson Memorial Drive in the City of Salem. The project will improve a section of the road and add lighting, sidewalks, bike lanes and a new traffic signal at Lynchburg Turnpike. Local traffic can expect flagging operations within the work zone at various times and locations throughout the day. Drivers should expect delays and plan accordingly or seek alternate routes, especially during peak hours in the morning and evening and during the lunch hour. This work will continue until summer 2020. * ROUTE 116 BRIDGE REPLACEMENT OVER BACK CREEK Work is underway to replace the bridge on Route 116 (JAE Valley Road) over Back Creek. The bridge is located south of the intersection of Route 945 (Sun Valley Ln.) in Roanoke County. Work includes constructing a new bridge parallel to the existing bridge structure. Temporary lane closures may be in place with flaggers controlling traffic at various times while construction signs are installed and equipment is moved to the site. This project will continue until September 2019. (UPDATED) * RUTROUGH ROAD UTILITY WORK - Western Virginia Water Authority will have continuous work on Rutrough Road through March 1, 2019. (UPDATED) * HOLLINS/PETERS CREEK ROAD UTILITY WORK Work and flagging operations will continue on Daytona Road and Capito Street through March 1, 2019. (UPDATED) * ROUTE 608 BRIDGE CLOSURE - Effective 8 a.m. on February 26, 2019 a section of Route 608 (Altice Road) is scheduled to be closed for bridge work. This closure will be located 0.75 miles South of Route 748, Lipscomb Road and 0.85 miles North of Route 793, Watson Road. Drivers will need to seek alternate routes. The road is scheduled to be closed until 3 p.m. on February 27, 2019. (UPDATED) * ROUTE 684 BRIDGE CLOSURE - Route 684 (Rock Ford Road) bridge over Goose Creek is closed for a bridge replacement that will increase its weight capacity and

increase the width by four feet to accommodate two lanes of traffic. During the replacement, traffic will be detoured around the closure using Dickerson Mill Road and Robertson Road. Detour signs will be in place. The road is expected to be re-opened October 10, 2019. - 5 - * ROUTE 43 LANE CLOSURE Work to replace the Route 43 (Peaks Road) bridge over the Big Otter River in Bedford County is underway and requires a long-term lane closure. The bridge is located near the Route 682 (Woods Road) intersection about 2.7 miles north of Bedford. One lane of the two-lane bridge is closed and a temporary signal controls traffic. Vehicle widths are limited to 10 feet. Route 43 will be limited to a single lane in the area of the bridge replacement until the structure is completed. Estimated completion is spring 2019. Northbound lane is now closed and signs are posted for no right turns onto Route 682 from Route 43 and no left turn onto Route 43 from Route 682. (NEW) * ROUTE 849 CLOSURE - Route 849 (Mine Road) is closed from Route 640 (Wheats Valley Road) to Quiet Zone Lane. This is an emergency closure due to a pipe failure. The road segment will remain closed until further notice. * ROUTE 634 BRIDGE REPAIRS Route 634 (Hardy Road) over the Roanoke River at Smith Mountain Lake will undergo a bridge replacement. The location of the work is 0.19 mile west of the Franklin County line to 0.12 mile east of the Bedford County line. Flagging operations will be in place as needed throughout the duration of the project. Boaters should use caution if entering the lake from Roanoke Boat Ramp. Boats will have to pass through a work zone in the middle of the lake by the bridge for access into the lake. Drivers should expect delays and prepare their travel plans accordingly. The bridge repairs are expected to be completed by December 21, 2019. (NEW) * ROUTE 220 NORTH OF FINCASTLE - Work continues to repair Route 220 in Botetourt County just north of Fincastle where the road was damaged by an overturned tanker fire on February 20. The damaged section of the northbound lanes is located near Route 220 s intersection with Route 679 (Peck Road/Martins Lane). VDOT plans to shift two-way traffic into the southbound lanes of Route 220 while repairs are made to the northbound lanes. A timeframe for this traffic change has not been determined and will be dependent on weather. Drivers should expect delays and heavier traffic on secondary roads in the vicinity of the closure. Expected reopening of Route 220 is not yet determined. CURRENT STATUS: Northbound traffic has been shifted into a single southbound lane of Route 220, the far left lane traveling north. The speed limit is reduced to 35 mph on this section.

- 6 - All southbound traffic is continuing to use the signed detour: Mary Alice Road to West Wind Road to Old Fincastle Road to return to Route 220. Residents in between the detour will continue to be able to access their homes. Tractor-trailers and large industrial vehicles should avoid Route 220 southbound and seek alternate routes such as I-64 and I-81. * ROUTE 220 SAFETY IMPROVEMENTS IN EAGLE ROCK The project is underway. Flagging operations will be in place on Route 220, north and southbound lanes between Eagle Rock and Iron Gate. Reduced speed in work zone areas may be in place intermittently throughout the project during daytime and nighttime hours. Watch for signs. Work is estimated to be completed fall 2021. 7 a.m. to 7 p.m. - Flagging operations and shoulder closures for Route 220 North and Southbound lanes between Eagle Rock and Iron Gate: o North/Southbound lanes between Route 722 (Chatham Road North) and Route 672 (Prices Bluff). o North/Southbound lanes between 10 th Street at the Alleghany/Botetourt County line and Route 633 (Glen Wilton Road-West side & McKinney Hollow Road-East side. o Route 220 Southbound shoulder and lane closures from 7 a.m. to 6 p.m. from Route 694 (Sinking Creek Road) to Route 43 (Narrow Passage Road). (NEW) * BRIDGE PAINTING-I-81-NSRR- James River - Platform Installations will begin for bridge painting on I-81 from mile marker 164 to 166 and will have right lane closures in both north and southbound lanes beginning February 27 through March 2 from 8 p.m. to 6 a.m. This work will continue until fall 2019. *ROUTE 11 UTILITY WORK - Roanoke Gas may have outside northbound and southbound lane closures on Route 11 in Troutville from Valley Road to Stoney Battery Road) from 9 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. * ROUTE 11 BRIDGE REPLACEMENTS OVER TINKER CREEK -Work to replace the two existing bridges on Route 11 over Tinker Creek is underway. This project will replace existing bridges on Route 11 near the intersections of Route 838 (Vista Drive) and Route 1039 (Gibson Lane). Message boards will be in place on Route 11 advising motorists of the closure and detour signs will be in place directing traffic around the closure. Motorists should use caution and watch for signs and flaggers controlling traffic. Estimated completion of this project is November 2019. There will be temporary lane closures as a new traffic pattern will be set from Shadwell Drive to Bryant Drive which will restrict Vista Drive to right in right out only for up to six months. A width restriction of 11 feet northbound and southbound will impact wide loads. From 9:00 am until 1:00 pm, there may be a single lane flagging operation. Traffic will be stopped for up to a maximum of 10 minutes intervals.

- 7 - There will be one lane in each direction on Route 11. There will be some left turn restrictions. The right northbound lane will be closed from 9:00 am to 3:00 pm. (NEW) * ROUTE 52 UTILITY WORK Utility work will be conducted by AEP/APCO on over-head power lines repairs on Route 52 from Route 608 (Old Appalachian Trail) to Route 688 (Little Bear Trail Road). Intermittent traffic stoppages will be needed to pull cable across the road. (NEW) * ROUTE 58 UTILITY WORK Utility work is being conducted in several areas along Route 58. Contractors will continue to perform repairs and clean-up work for the Woodlawn Sanitary Sewer upgrades on Route 58 eastbound and westbound from Route 707 to Route 722. Contractor is installing new fiber optic on Route 58 and surrounding secondary roads at or about I-77 at exit 14. Contractors will have a shoulder closure on Route 58 eastbound between Route 666 (Bent Nail Road) and Route 673 (Pilgrims Trail) to install an entrance. Routine maintenance activities in progress. (NEW) * ROUTE 689 CLOSURE - Route 682 (Spangler Mill Rd.) will be closed from February 11 through February 15 for a pipe replacement project. The road will be closed from Route 221 (Floyd Highway North) to Route 686 (Moore Road). Please plan travel accordingly and seek alternate routes. Estimated completion is February 15. (UPDATED) * ROUTE 221 BRIDGE REPAIRS - Route 221 will be under construction at the intersection of Route 761 (Mira Fork Rd/Sugar Tree Hill Rd.). Traffic will be governed by temporary signals for Phase I of the Bridge Replacement Over Mira Fork Creek. The expected completion date is November 2019. * ROUTE 600 PREVENTIVE BRIDGE MAINTENANCE Preventive bridge maintenance on Route 600 (Shelor Road) located over Laurel Creek have alternating lane closures with flaggers. Delay to traffic should be minimal. Cross roads are Route 603 (Fork Mountian Road) and Route 779 (Deharts Store Road).

- 8 - Routine maintenance activities in progress. (UPDATED) * ROUTE 100 SAFETY IMPROVEMENTS The Route 100 Safety Improvement project is underway. Alternating lane closures will be in place on Route 100 northbound from 6:30 a.m. to 7 p.m., Monday through Friday, between Route 665 (Wilburn Valley Road) to Dublin / Giles County Line to Route 665. Project total length is expected to be performed through April 2019. (UPDATED) * ROUTE 460 UTILITY WORK - Overhead utility installations will be performed for several perpendicular crossings of US 460 (Virginia Avenue) between SR 613 (Doe Creek Road) and SR 700 (Mountain Lake Road). Work will require intermittent closures of US 460 to all traffic for limited periods of time (15 minutes or less). Intersecting state highways, driveways, and business entrances will be temporarily closed as well. Work is scheduled to take place starting January 21 and last through the month of February 2019. (UPDATED) * ROUTE 460 BYPASS NEW RAMP CONSTRUCTION The building of a new ramp from eastbound Route 460 bypass to westbound Route 460 business is nearing completion. The purpose of the new eastbound ramp will be to alleviate congestion on Route 114 (Peppers Ferry Road). Drivers may see shoulder closures in the work zone area, 7 a.m. to 5:30 p.m., Monday through Friday. This project is expected to be completed in June 2019. Beginning March 8 through March 10, weather permitting, striping and sign installation will take place during daytime hours. Current ramp and eastbound lane of Route 460 will be closed as in previous configuration during construction. Drivers should expect delays in the areas. Once this is completed, the ramp will open to traffic. (NEW)* ROUTE 639 BRIDGE REPLACEMENT OVER ELLIOTT CREEK - A permanent road closure and detour along Route 639 in Montgomery County, December 3, 2018 to December 6, 2019, for the replacement of Bridge 664 over Elliot Creek. The detour will utilize Route 638 (George s Run Road) and Route 637 (Alleghany Spring Road). Estimated completion: December 2019. * ROUTE 685 CONSTRUCTION AND UTILITY WORK - Route 685 (Prices Fork Road) between Route 1145 (Stradford View Drive) and Route 736 (Tucker Road) may have

- 9 - shoulder and lane closures in place for the replacement and relocation of utilities for a construction project. Flagging operations with alternating lanes are also possible. Work will be performed Monday through Friday, 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. The main construction will continue through July 2019. (UPDATED)* SOUTHGATE DRIVE AT VIRGINIA TECH Lane and shoulder closures and activity in the work zone continue. Motorists should use caution in the area and expect delays and lane closures periodically. The new Southgate Interchange is open. Access to the old Southgate Drive is no longer allowed. Alternating left and/or right lane closures will be in place, weather permitting, on new Southgate Drive from the Southgate Interchange to Duck Pond Drive, Monday to Friday, between the hours of 9:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m. for various operations as needed. The lane closures will be set up between Duck Pond Roundabout and the Southgate Diverging Diamond Interchange. Intermittent flagging operations will occur on Huckleberry trail at Research Center Drive/Smoot Drive intersection and Dairy Drive from present day to end of construction activities. Pedestrians and Bicyclists should use caution in this area. * KOGER MILL ROAD BRIDGE CLOSURE - The bridge on Route 703 (Koger Mill Road) over the North Mayo River is closed for repairs. The bridge is located north of Critz, about 0.5 mile from Route 703 s intersection with Route 626 (Abram Penn Highway). Local traffic can follow posted detour signs around the closure. Recent heavy rains have caused some erosion around one of the bridge s piers and environmental issues have required assessments of the areas. Due to this, work on the bridge is not expected to start until approximately June 2019. * ROUTE 58 GUARDRAIL INSTALLATION Guardrail will be installed on Lovers Leap Mountain on Route 58 eastbound and westbound from 0.80 miles east of Route 610 to 0.08 miles west of Route 8 at mile marker 0. Lane closures will be in place, Monday through Thursday, 7 a.m. 8 p.m. Drivers should expect 10-15 minutes wait time. (NEW) *ROUTE 99 REPAIRS - Alternating left and right lane closures and periodically flagging operations on Route 99 from Interstate 81 to Bobwhite Boulevard. Estimated traffic impact from Monday to Friday from 9 a.m. to 7 p.m. (UPDATED) * ROUTE 100 BRIDGE REPLACEMENT Two bridge replacements are underway on Route 100 Dublin. The bridges are located over Route 11 and over the railroad. Drivers can expect lane closures and heavy trucks entering and exiting the roadway during daytime hours, 7 a.m. to 6 p.m. Lanes will be reduced to one lane in both directions from late fall

- 10 - through the duration of the project. Route 100 Southbound will continue to serve as the Rte. 100 Northbound and Southbound lanes. Width restriction of 10 feet in place with no wide loads allowed. Message boards will alert drivers. Work is anticipated to be complete by April 2020. A right lane closure on Rte. 11 Northbound and Southbound to work on the abutments of B612 Bridge from Giles Ave to New River Community College (NRCC) entrance (Rte. 372) from February 18, 2019 to approximately March 8, 2019. Tate Avenue will be closed to through traffic from Hawkins Street to the Route 100 overpass. Peppers Ferry Rd will be closed to through traffic from Newbern Street to the Route 100 overpass. These closures will be in effect through April 2020. Right and left lane closures will be in place on Route 100 north and southbound. A width restriction is in on place to 10 feet wide. Wide loads not permitted on Route 100 north and southbound between Route 1003 (4 th Street) and Route 635 (Baskerville Road). A right lane closure is in place on Route 11 southbound for work to occur on the ramp. The ramp off of Route 100 southbound onto Route 11 southbound will be closed for pavement rehabilitation. A signed detour will be in place. * ROUTE 11 PULASKI COUNTY Road work will be occurring on Route 11 in Dublin. A left lane closure from Rte. 1003 (4 th Street) eastbound and westbound to Route 635 (Baskerville Street) Eastbound and Westbound. Work is expected to occur from 7 a.m. to 6 p.m. Estimated Completion: June 2020.
