SAVE THE DATES for Septem ber 20-23 for the Avalon Cruise hosted by Vice Commodore Erlene and Port Captain Michael Pace. More details coming soon! ERLENE PACE, VICE COMMODORE Welcome Summer! I don t know about you, but I m ready for some HOT sunny days!! According to the Port Captain, it s like the summer of 1972. We were fortunate enough to have the right weather for the Shipwreck Dock Party, not too hot & not too cold, like the perfect date. It was a great turnout thanks to the hosts, Dale Giali, Sue Westover, Mike & Sharon Courtway. Anymore pirates & wrenches on that dock, we might have had somebody going in the water. I have a feeling this will be a regular event, so if you missed it, there is always next year. Now for the Winner s Circle, I m still employed, so no BIG win s for me. I did take 2nd Place for the Hat Contest, some real tough competition this year. Well deserved 1st Place went to Lucy Maks, now I know why everyone was out of glue sticks, & 3rd Place for the lovely hat that Diane Rodriguez was sporting. Delicious food & plenty of it, so no one left with an empty stomach, maybe just your wallet. Thank you, Francis & Aurelia Okino, Eugene & Lucille Mascoli for hosting another fabulous Night at the Races. Get ready for next year Ladies & Gentlemen, cuz if you ain t 1st you re last! There are two movie quotes in my article, see if you can guess which ones & what movie! Sea ya ll soon!! FRANCIS OKINO, REAR COMMODORE Boat Inspection for SGYC Members Some of you who attended the Opening Day Ceremony may remember Captain Bill (William) Kopenski of the US Coast Guard stating that they would do Boat Inspection for members of the Seagate Yacht Club. Well, Bill is ready to do the inspection and he is asking the members to contact him directly to arrange for the inspection. He would prefer to be contacted by email at: wjkopenski.uscgaux@gmail.com Please contact Bill as soon as possible to schedule the inspection of your boat. DR. MARK MONROE, M.D., FLEET SURGEON WINDCHILL Q: David asks: In Boston, the m eteorologist posts the temperature forecast with the weather forecast then he throws in a wind chill factor. What is that and why is it important? A: The definition of A Windchill Factor is the quantity of effective low ering of the tem perature of the air, object, or human body caused by the wind affecting the rate of heat loss. For the complete answer to David s question and more of Dr. Monroe s very informative articles go to www.sgyc.club and scroll down to Information on Marine Medical and Safety by SC and Fleet Surgeon, Mark Monroe, M.D.
Pirates! Carousing under the Jolly Roger at a shipwreck at the Bimini Dock hosted by Sue & SC Dale Giali and Sharon & SC Mike Courtway. Blimey, shiver me timbers and blow me down! On the nineteenth day of May of the two thousand and eighteenth year, old salts and seadogs joined together with wenches, buccaneers, privateers, hearties and landlubbers, some 65 strong in all.
Who says, Nothing is perfect. Aurelia & RC Francis Okino, Lucille & Eugene Mascoli and Jackie Sands delivered yet another perfect evening of races and dinner at Los Alamitos Race Track. We were seated on the balcony in the Vessels Club with a great view of the track. In addition the annual Ascot Hat Contest, Derby Quiz and 50-50 drawing created lots of winners. Race 3 was dedicated to SGYC and our hosts and helpers joined #5 Battle Jet in the winner s circle.
Hosts Bonnie & SC Jeff Specht have done it again. We enjoyed the scrumptious Sunday Buffet at the Huntington Harbour Yacht Club. As the Duffy s arrived a smiling Jeff was on deck carefully guiding the Duffy docking. Walking into the club we all were greeted by the charming and beautiful Bonnie.
