TIRE TRACKS January 2017 N CT E L E E TH RSIO E V C I ON R Greetings, Waynesboro Staunton Region Members & Friends, As we close out 2016. I trust you all had a great Christmas with friends and family. As 2017 comes rolling in, we want to wish you a Happy New Year. It won t be too long before we get the old cars out again for another year of W-S activities. My wife says I always associate people with the cars they drive. To test that theory, this month we ll publish some pictures of members cars. See if you can match them with the owners. Volume 47, Issue 1 TIRE TRACKS The Official Publication of the Waynesboro-Staunton Region Visit our NEW website http://waynesboro-stauntonregion.aaca.com/ January 2017 PRESIDENT S MESSAGE I hope everyone had a very Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year to all. Thanks to everyone who could make it to our annual December Christmas Meeting/Party at Pano s Restaurant, especially Charlotte Kuykendall and Jack Drago who hosted our gift exchange. Chester and Nancy Bradfield took home Pano s Choice Award with their 1938 Studebaker Coupe Pickup which they brought out along with a few others who also brought their old vehicles out in the rain. It appeared that we had a very nice end of the year meeting/party with very nicely done truck tree hanger ornaments and centerpieces which were made and brought in by Clarice and Stu Allen. Again, thanks to all. This will be my last President s Message and I can truly say it has been an honor and pleasure to serve as your President for the past 2 years. I especially want to thank my wife Shirley for assisting. I certainly have enjoyed the ride. I hope I did not bore everyone with meetings being too lengthy, but if anyone had something to say I did not want to cut them off and/or out of the discussion. As I hope you know, I placed a great importance on our recognition and standing within our community. I feel this strengthens our Club in many ways. I feel Alfred Meyer and Walter Wilson will bring a lot to the Club and will perform very well in their new roles. Please plan to attend our January meeting to witness their being sworn in as your new President and Vice President. Please do not forget to pay your National and Region dues which are both now due. Again, thank you for your support. Ken Farley Meet Our New V.P. - Walter Wilson I asked Walter to tell us a bit about himself and here is his response: I grew up in Northern Virginia in the City of Fairfax and went to JMU and George Mason Law School. I lived in Fairfax for over 40 years and served one term on the City of Fairfax City Council (1994-96). I moved to Delaware for my job and then was transferred a year later to the Richmond area. I lived in Midlothian for about 15 years before moving to Fishersville in October of 2015. I'm an attorney who works for a title insurance company handling land transfers under cell towers all over the country. Since we deal with customers all over the country I can easily work from home. Allison and I met at JMU in 1978 and after about 25 years of no contact we got back together in 2006 and got married in 2008 (in Denmark). Allison purchased a 1946 Chevy pickup truck last year and we have been trying to get more involved --so she volunteered me for the VP position. Walter A. Wilson, III Cell phone # 804-475 - 8993 Thanks, Walter (and Allison) for volunteering!

The meal, meeting and gift exchange were all enjoyed by our members. Antique car ornaments designed and made by Clarice Allen (assisted by Janet Meyer and your editor) were given to each member in attendance. Festive Poinsetias served as center pieces and were given away as door prizes Pano s Party Room was wellprepared for our meeting. Everyone ate their fill as Pano s treated us with good food and great service. Mary Owen shows the beautiful Santa drawing done by Martha Jane Lavender Treasurer Jack Drago in elf disguise handed out the chips for the gift exchange. Bob Kuykendall opens a selection of antique car models that were quickly stolen in the Chinese gift exchange. Rain and salt on the roads discouraged many from driving their old cars, but Chester and Nancy Bradfield brought their 38 Studebaker Coupe Express, winning Pano s Choice trophy. Chief Elf Charlotte Kuykendall and Elf-InTraining Jack Drago present the award to the Bradfields.

AACA National meeting in Philadelphia, Ken & Shirley Farley were awarded the Chocolate Town Trophy for the Outstanding Senior Car in a National Meet. In April, guest speaker Mary Ann Stripling Ph.D. told us how to approach getting our Ducks in a Row. In March, the meeting topic was Trends in the Antique Hobby, presented by Brian Rhodes. Dick McIninch and Ken Farley. In June, several W-S members attended the Sentimental Tour in Salisbury, NC. Locomotive 611 was the hit of the tour. The May meeting took us to Tinkling Spring Presbyterian Church where Bob Kuykendall told us about the long history of the church that was founded in 1740. July found us at Baldwin Park, displaying our cars to the residents. In August, we were featured at the Augusta County Fair. Our auctioneer, Bruce Elder did his usual fine job selling goodies at our Sept. Steak Fry and Auction Duane Perrin treated us to a program in October on Cars I Have Enjoyed featuring his 1930 Willys-Knight Roadster. At our Nov. Show & Tell meeting, Alfred Meyer shows his 1913 Buick's "Best Buick On The Field" trophy from this fall's Hilton Head Island Concours d' Elegance. If you are like me, it seems that 2016 flew by! We re already planning for 2017 and I know incoming President Alfred Meyer and V.P. Walter Wilson will line up some great activities. Let s get those old cars out and enjoy them! Happy New Year!
