PRESIDENT S CORNER Ah spring it has finally arrived. I know you skiers are sad to see the snow season go, but there IS life after skiing. I want to thank all the racers who gave their time, money and their best efforts this season. Speaking for the club, we are extremely proud of you and appreciate your representing our club at the Crescent races. I look forward to see you at the awards presentation at the Piedmont Club on the 9 th. Kudos! Speaking of the Piedmont Club, if you plan to go, please contact Jan Sarratt if you haven t already done so. If you are not planning to go, well, you should just change your mind. The food is excellent, and the drinks are included, service is wonderful and the company is the best! Please join us and bring a friend, we always welcome guests. Last month we had an awesome slide show at the Cultural Center. Taylor s pictures allowed us to reminisce through some of our meetings and activities from the first half of last year. We d forgotten a lot of things, but then maybe we were trying to forget them. I have to admit, if you miss some of the events you are missing out on a whole lot of fun. With summer fast approaching, don t forget the club has a large heavy-duty tent for rent. It s great for those summer parties outside to keep the rain and/or sun off your guests. Contact any board member for more details. Mark has some hikes planned for this spring and summer, and as always, Mike has some more interesting places for us to dine. Ivo is still on the lookout for members to join him the first and third Saturday in the park on McMillan Dr in Boiling Springs. Let s get out and get that fresh air and do some moving! See you all at the Piedmont Club! Conni Harrell, President Page 2

PIEDMONT CLUB AWARD DINNER AND OFFICER INSTALLATION DURING APRIL MEETING April 6 is the deadline to sign up to join the rest of the members on Thursday, April 9th for our annual buffet, officer installation, and presentation of skiing awards at the Piedmont Club. The Crescent Room will be available to us beginning at 6:00 PM and we will go through the line at 7:00 PM. The club will provide the ever all-important beverages for our open bar! The $40.00 cost will remain the same as last year, and, as always, covers the buffet, the bar tender, setups, taxes and tips. If you plan to come, phone me and we can make the arrangements to get the check to me. This way I will know to look for your payment and will be able to keep up with the attendance count. I am working on next year s date and as soon as the date is locked in, you will be notified. There are plans in the works for our May 7 membership meeting at the Over Mountain Vineyards. For more details look elsewhere in this newsletter. We will again return to our summer schedule away from Chapman. If you are interested in hosting the first Saturday in June (no July) or August, please let me know. See all of you at the Piedmont Club for our annual awards dinner and officer installation. Don t miss the highlight meeting of the year. Jan Sarratt 489-1606 Page 3

May Membership Meeting Thursday, May 7, 2015, 6:00 PM Overmountain Vineyards Mills River, NC Our May meeting will be at a special location to celebrate spring in the great outdoors. Website http://overmountainvineyards.com Bring your own drinks and a picnic or food to grill. The club will provide ice, plates and utensils. Grills will be available at 6:00 PM. The staff will have their tasting room open for us only. We ask that you contribute $5.00 each to help defray the fee we are paying to use their facilities. More in next month s newletter. Page 4

NOTES Any Spartanburg Ski Club member may submit items for publication in the newsletter. Publication deadlines can be found on the pullout calendar included in the newsletter each month. Call Taylor for information on how to submit your newsletter item. Also, don t forget - the club has a tent available for rent. It is an 18 X 20 tent, and it is easy to assemble. We also have 4 tables that can be rented with or without the tent. We have the makings for that special occasion and it is all very reasonably priced! Tent rental is $ 35. Tables can be rented for $5 per table. Remember; don t have a party without the comfort of shade. Your guests will appreciate it and so will the club! For rentals of either tent or tables contact Joy Bobo. The Spartanburg Ski & Outing Club normally meets the first Thursday of each month at 7:00 PM. We are located at the Chapman Cultural Center (West Wing) on East St. John Street in Spartanburg on the first floor. During the summer months (June, July, and August) meetings are frequently held, more informally, at different sites and times. Therefore it is necessary to consult the club web site or a current newsletter for the time and location. April s meeting is held at the Piedmont Club. The club does not provide alcoholic beverages at membership meetings, but members are allowed to bring their own (BYOB) choices of beer or wine. Over-indulgence is not condoned under any circumstances. Cups, ice, and some soft drinks are provided. Thank you.
