Day 1: Friday, March 8 Depart USA Depart New York this afternoon, changing planes in Istanbul for your flight to Tel Aviv. Day 2: Saturday, March 9 Arrive in Tel Aviv late this morning. Visit Caesarea Maritima and explore this Roman bridgehead which became the Christian springboard to the West enroute to Nazareth. Overnight in Nazareth. Arrival in Israel Days 3 9: Sunday, March 10 through Saturday, March 16 Cycle the 3 Seas Bike Ride OR Jesus Trail Hike Nazareth Project (NPI) is arranging group travel and three days of touring in Israel in conjunction with the Jesus Trail hike and the Cycle the Three Seas bike ride sponsored by Nazareth Trust, (owner of Nazareth Hospital and Nazareth School of Nursing). Tour group members will choose between the bike ride OR the Jesus Trail hike. Application for your choice included inside this brochure. Cycle the 3 Seas Bike Ride: The 220-mile ride will begin in Tel Aviv and end in Nazareth. The route will go from the Mediterranean Sea to the Dead Sea to the Galilee Sea. Jesus Trail Hike: The 40-mile hike will follow the Jesus Trail leaving Nazareth and ending in Capernaum. Day 9: Saturday, March 16 Nazareth to Jerusalem After the closing breakfast from the hike/bike portion of the trip, begin the journey to Jerusalem making several stops along the way. Visit the mound of Beth Shean, hearing the story of Saul and viewing the ruins of Roman Scythopolis. Nablus/Jacob s well. A traditional Palestinian lunch (Musakhan) will served at the West Bank Town of Sabastia before heading to Mt. Scopus. Dinner and overnight will be at the Ambassador Hotel in Jerusalem. Day 10: Sunday, March 17 Jerusalem Today begins with a visit to the Western Wall, Judaism s holiest site. If circumstances allow, ascend to the Dome of the Rock and the al-aqsa Mosque, the third holiest site of Islam, located on the traditional site of the ancient Temple Mount. Visit the Southern Steps on which we can be sure Jesus and His disciples walked. View the Holy City from the top of the Mount of Olives. Follow the traditional Palm Sunday route to the Garden of Gethsemane and Church of All Nations. Visit the Church of St. Peter in Gallicantu, which affords the best view of early Jerusalem from the west. The next stop after lunch on your own is the Shrine of the Book, which houses the Dead Sea Scrolls. End the day at Yad Vashem, Israel s memorial to the victims of the Holocaust. Dinner and overnight at the Ambassador Hotel in Jerusalem. Day 11: Monday, March 18 Jerusalem Begin the day with a visit the Pool of Bethesda and St. Anne s Church, with its remarkable acoustics. Then, continue along the Via Dolorosa (Way of the Cross) to the Church of the Holy Sepulcher to experience the traditional site of Jesus death, burial and resurrection. Stop for lunch at Grotto Restaurant Bethlehem (on own) before visiting the Shepherds Fields in Beit Sahour. Conclude the day with a visit to Bethlehem, walking through its alleys and markets to the Church of the Nativity. Bethlehem is an excellent place to shop for hand-carved olive wood items and jewelry, which you will be able to browse at leisure. You will return to the hotel for dinner, prior to transferring to the airport for a latenight flight home. Day 12: Tuesday, March 19 Return to the USA Arrive in the U.S. early this afternoon with lasting memories of your time in the Holy Land. We advise that you take your frequent flyer card with you to show to the airline agent at check in. Always retain your boarding passes until you check your mileage account after you travel. Disabilities: Guests with disabilities or dietary restrictions should inquire prior to registration whether their needs can be accommodated. Tour Preparation: Due to the physical demands of the terrain covered on this tour, we do not recommend the tour for persons requiring wheelchairs or walkers, or for young children. Most of the sites do not have handicapped access which US travelers are accustomed. It will be worth your time and energy to physically prepare for the journey beforehand. On many days tour particiapts will walk six or more miles over rough and uneven terrains. Some treks include hundreds of steep and narrow steps in poorly lit areas. You will need to build your endurance for this trip. Although luggage handling will be provided at hotels, there may be times when you will need to handle your own suitcase. Pack light!
