The President s Corner Our new the meetings location at the New Berlin Hills Golf Course, Clubhouse, is working out to be a huge success. We had about 25 people there for the Membership Meeting in February; it was a blast. It s located just west of Greenfield Park, 13175 W Graham St, New Berlin, WI 53151. March Meeting (March 2, 2018) Light Hors d oeuvres at 6:30 included: No sign-up needed: Pay at the door, member $5 & guest $7 Chamonix Pre-trip Meeting We ve had a great skiing season with only the trip to go in March. Join us for the pre-trip meeting/party scheduled for the meeting too. The Les Houche Ski Area faces the Mont Blanc range, this area offers skiing for all levels of ability and all ages. A paradise for free riders with a relaxed atmosphere and a wide variety of runs, including the legendary World Cup Kandahar run, known as La Verte des Houches. Learn about the Vallée Blanche, the longest off-piste itinerary in Europe: a legendary 22 km descent down a glacier. We continue to have a fun collection of social events to keep us busy during the week. Check the Web Site and/or emails for the latest details. Elections: Yes, it s time to think about running for a Board and Officer position. We need a few new people every year to continue the fun events and ski trips. Sitzmark Elections 2018 We need you! Our Club is a volunteer organization. It would not exist if it were not for the help of those who serve on the Board of Directors Officers and Directors. We need you to run for a position on the Board. Contact elections@sitzmark.org if you are interested. Elections will be held at the April membership meeting. Who is eligible to run? Candidates for President must have served on the Board for a minimum of two years. Candidates for Vice-President must have served on the Board for a minimum of one year. The offices of President, Vice-President, and Treasurer are one-year terms; the Director positions are two-year terms. To run for a Directorship, you need only be a member in good standing. Each Director discusses with the new President their preferred position, and assignments are based on these discussions as well as an individual s experience. Board members are required to attend monthly Board and membership meetings. President: Preside over Board and membership meetings; appoint committees as needed; represent the Club at various activities and associations. Vice-President: Succeed President if necessary; preside over meetings in the absence of the President; sell Club merchandise to trip leaders to sell on trips; select new items for the Club store; maintain inventory of Club equipment. Secretary: Record minutes from monthly Board meetings; complete official correspondence not related to specific Directors. Treasurer: Keep Club books; make deposits and disbursements as approved by Directors; report monthly and year-end financial status to the Board; chair audit committee and file federal tax return. Meetings and Entertainment: Coordinate selection of meeting locations for the Club; contract bands and/or DJs for meetings; Board Positions recruit members to greet and sign in members and guests at the meetings. Membership: Recruit new members; enter and maintain membership records using the Club website database; distribute membership cards. Newsletter: Editor of the newsletter; solicit articles, design, and create monthly newsletter; distribute the newsletter to members using the website and Facebook. As needed, print and mail newsletter to members. Special Events: Recruit volunteers. Organize and preside over Auction for Charity and year-end awards party for Club volunteers. Promotion: Distribute the Club brochures to ski, sports, and other retail outlets. promote the Club and its events via social media. Coordinate booths at ski and sports shows, to promote the Club and recruit new members. Race and Sports: Coordinate the race team with MMSC; oversee sports leagues such as softball, tennis, volleyball, and golf. Social Events: Recruit members to organize a variety of social activities such as afterwork parties, camping, skating, and Packer parties. Western s: Organize non-midwest trips, including reservations and pricing; handle all payments in trip sign-ups using Club website database; solicit and work with trip leaders. Assist with production and distribution of the ski trips booklet. Northern s: Organize Midwest trips, including reservations and pricing; handle all payments in trip sign-ups using Club website database; solicit and work with trip leaders. Bottled beer on the shelves is organized by the brewery s region. Customers can find beers from east coast breweries, and as they move toward the other wall, they will move toward west coast beers. Race & Sports Report Race season is complete. The season was fun, even though we had a couple of injuries. Mark Mayer suffered a Tibial Plateau Fracture, as well as some ligament damage, and we pray he has a speedy and complete recovery. Jim Fisher suffered a concussion, but was able to finish the season with us. We are looking for more racers for next season! Come join in the thrill of competition, and the camaraderie! The MMSC is having its annual Race Banquet, and it would be great if would get a solid turnout of Sitzmarkers in support of our team. Coffee and milk. Northern Trips The Tyrol-Devil s Head weekend was a great success with 16 participants, double from last year. We even had two three inches of fresh powder Sunday morning at Devil s Head. We stayed at Devil s Head Lodge Saturday night which included a hot tub and a fire pit. Special thanks to Susie M. And Audry W. for providing us with awesome s mores. We wrapped up our final year s event with Cascade Mt. on February 24. Four of us enjoyed nearly 40 degree temperatures and very good conditions. Jeff Borchardt, Northern Trips Director. Copper Mountain 2018 Thirty six Sitzmarks made the journey to Copper Mountain, Colorado January 15-19. It was snowing when we left Milwaukee on Monday and it was snowing when we set out from Denver on the bus. Unfortunately we did not see any new snow during our stay at Copper. But we did have a bluebird week, with decent snow on everything but the back bowls, which were closed due to low snow. We had a nice wine & cheese party Monday night, after everyone found the right room in the Conference Center. Skied Tuesday, Wednesday, and Thursday with some braving the trees to find some fresh stuff. A few took advantage of the mountain tours and had a great time. Wednesday night we had a tasty pizza party at the Double Diamond Restaurant in the East Village, which is owned by a Wisconsin native. David took great care of us, and the wine and beer flowed! One More to Go! Chamonix pre-trip meeting will be at the March 2nd membership meeting. Trip itinerary and info will be sent out this week. I am sending a western trips email to the club talking about next years trips and soliciting people interested in learning about the western trips committee. I am looking for input from individual club members prior to composing a club trips survey. We will discuss a date for the club trip planning party in early April. I want to narrow down destinations for 2019 prior to attending Mountain Travel Symposium April 11-15, 2018. This would give me the chance to better pursue details with the representatives of our potential destinations.
