The Spot Light Page 5 On August 8, 2012, at approximately 0014 hours, Officers Carl Scott and Gary Venable were dispatched to investigate a suspicious call of a group of males pulling on vehicle door handles near Belmont and Parkwood. The suspects were subsequently stopped by Canine Officer Samuel Hernandes at the intersection of Idlewood and Sheppard Street. A witness positively identified an adult male and three juvenile suspects, and had also observed them entering into vehicles. The adult was arrested with 3 charged for contributing to the delinquency of a minor, and the juveniles were charged with curfew violations. The investigation is on-going an pending additional charges. On August 13, 2012, Officers responded to a bank robbery that occurred at Gateway Bank, 5300 Patterson Avenue. Officer Matthew Cavanaugh quickly arrived at Gateway Bank, and immediately obtained the suspect information, a possible license plate, and the make of the suspect s vehicle. Within moments of his arrival, Officer Cavanaugh quickly and efficiently broadcasted the suspect s information. Officers Brian Sheridan and Travis Thompson were together discussing another issue when the call was broadcasted. Officers Sheridan and Thompson collaborated on canvassing the possible routes the suspect may have taken from the bank. Moments after Officer Cavanaugh transmitted the suspect s information, Officer Sheridan observed the vehicle east bound on Monument Avenue. Officer Sheridan notified communications of his location, and followed the vehicle, until other units were able to assist in the traffic stop. Sergeant Roane and Lieutenant Marshall observed Officer Sheridan and the suspect s vehicle crossing Thompson Street, and fell in behind them. Sergeant Roane then advised Officer Sheridan to proceed with the stop of the vehicle. A felony traffic stop was then initiated in the 3300 block of Monument. Officer Thompson also arrived and provided assisted as the cover officer. Officer Sheridan utilized sound police tactics and voice commands advising the driver to exit the vehicle. While engaged with the driver of the vehicle, another person s head popped up in the rear of the van. Commands were given to him also. Officer Sheridan and Lieutenant Marshall took both suspects into custody without incident, while Sergeant Roane cleared the van. A plastic bag containing the money from the bank was recovered inside the vehicle. The offender later confessed to the robbery and a previous robbery that occurred at the same bank two months prior to Lieutenant Marshall.
