Venue of the Meeting The Parliament Annex Arkadiankatu 3, Helsinki Auditorium http://www.eduskunta.fi/fakta/lisarakennus/huoneet.htm The Parliament Annex The Annex to the Finnish Parliament by architect Pekka Helin & Co. was completed in 2004. About half of s 200 Members of Parliament and their assistants have their offices in the Annex. It also houses the Parliamentary Ombudsman s Office, the International Department of the Finnish Parliament and the conference rooms for the two Committees of the Parliament: the Grand Committee (EU-affairs) and the Foreign Affairs Committee. On the ground floor, apart from the offices and entrances, there is a visitor s centre open to the public. The building is complemented by a number of other major architectural landmarks in the vicinity, such as Helsinki s main post office, Kiasma - the Museum of Contemporary Art, Sanoma House, as well as the main House of Parliament, which is connected to the annex by an underground walkway. A 30-metre-high atrium is the heart of the new building. The new building is a good example of the modern Finnish architecture and construction skill. The floors and outside walls are covered with stone brought in from different parts of. Each of the atrium s meeting rooms are panelled with a different wood and the rooms are named accordingly: Ash, Maple, Birch, Black Poplar, Common Alder, Lappland Pine and Elm. The IPSG-meeting will be held in the Auditorium. As it happens, the room is panelled with European Oak. 3
