Ozark Chapter, Order of the Arrow Presents Klondike 2012 February 17-19 Camp Orr Winter Scout Olympics The Ozark Chapter Order of the Arrow is hosting the annual Ozark District Klondike Derby and OA Call-out, February 17-19 at Camp Orr. Registration: All units are requested to pre-register with council headquarters no later than February 14 Units must present a copy of their Medical Forms, Registration Form and payment to the camporee registrar upon arrival. If pre-registered please present receipt, otherwise make check payable to Westark Area Council. Klondike Requirements/Recommendations/Restrictions: Requirements: o Bring your own firewood. All trash/garbage must be taken with you when you leave. Be mindful of the Outdoor Code. o Units must provide their own meals. o Class A uniforms are to be worn during flag ceremonies and vespers. Recommendations: o This is a winter campout; ensure your scouts are adequately prepared and dressed appropriately for the weather o Sled contents: (bring what you like, but you ll need this stuff) ten essentials for hiking one neckerchief per scout scout book two scout staves, 6 ft long one blanket or tarp friction fire kit (you will be responsible for your own materials) Restrictions: o Sleds: NO WHEELED SLEDS. These create an unfair advantage and take the fun out of the event. See attached diagram for a typical Klondike Sled. o All fires are to be in established fire pits or above ground fire lays. o No unattended fires in camp.
Events: All events will be judged on scout spirit, team work, problem solving, and time. The Injured Scout: One of your Scouts is injured; can your patrol save him? Don t Spill the Serum: The miners need medicine; can your patrol get it to them in time? Knots: Not (get it?) your average knot tying game. Commercial Skit: How well can your patrol sell a product? Balancing Nail Heads: How many nail heads can your patrol balance? Canoe Portage: Point A to Point B as quickly and safely as possible, Friction Fire Building: How fast can the patrol build a friction fire? No matches, batteries, magnesium or liquids allowed. Knot Relay: How fast can your patrol tie the First Class Knots? Awards: Top three patrols will be recognized in each event, with special awards for top three overall patrols and best unit. There will be a Scoutmaster Cobbler cook-off as well.
