2012 BEFORE + AFTER CAMP DEVOTIONS Well, it s hard to believe it, but camp is just around the corner. I know that you re working hard to get all of your paperwork ready and your ducks in a row. There are probably, even some campers that have already packed (well in advance) for camp! :) The CentriKid Camps team in the Nashville office is working hard to assure that you and your campers have a fantastic week at camp! There are also CentriKid staff members intensely studying their Bible Study and Track Time material so that they are prepared to pour into your campers lives! You are in store for a great week at camp! This guide is to be used as a tool to help you and your campers get ready for camp and to reflect on the great week that you had at camp. You ll have a chance to laugh, cry, pray with, and serve along side your campers throughout this experience we call CENTRIKID! So jump in the game, and play your heart out! GAME ON! Blessings, Meghan Dukes, Writer Nashville, Tennessee DATES REMEMBER to FEBRUARY 15: DEPOSITS DUE A $50 per person deposit is required for each reservation to be paid on or before February 15. how to use this guide GGD: (Gotta Get Done Pre-Camp Only) This is time for you to make sure campers are paid up, their forms are in order, etc. Its just stuff you ve gotta get done. For Fun: Time to laugh, to smile and to connect your campers to each other. Before camp, they can get a jump start on knowing each other s names and becoming friends. When they get home, they ll want to share their memories with campers who had a similar experience during this life-changing week. Playbook: These are ideas to help prepare your campers spiritually for what they ll learn at camp and build on what they learned at camp when they get home. All in: (Post-Camp Only) This is a time for your campers to participate in a mission project together. Huddle Up: Prayer thoughts to guide your campers in praying for what they ll experience at camp and how to live differently after they get home. *The bold words are suggested words for you to say. 2

For Fun: Play the first promo video. camp1 before meeting YOU LL NEED: The first promo video from centrikid.com Post-it-notes Pens or Pencils Tape Envelopes Notebook paper A small container with about two cards for every camper. Each card should have a body-part word or action written on it, one word or phrase per card Examples: nose, elbow, twirl, knees, shout, jump, clap, skip, crab walk, karate kick, hop, jog, hands, etc. Pieces of paper with well known partners written on them. For example: Micky Mouse and Minnie Mouse Batman and Robin Prince Charles and Princess Diana Charlie Brown and Snoopy GGD: Make sure to sign campers in so you know who attended the Pre-Camp Meeting. This will help you get campers information they missed if they couldn t make it. Make sure you have all the forms and funds you need for each camper, make copies of insurance cards, etc. NAME GAME: FIND YOUR PARTNER When the campers arrive, tape a name to their backs. At your signal, the campers mingle with each other, asking questions about themselves which can only be answered by a yes or a no. For Example: Am I alive? Am I in a movie? Am I a male? While trying to guess who they are, they should also be looking out for their possible partner. Younger campers may need a little help coming up with questions. SECRET HANDSHAKE: Once the campers have found their partner, they may move on to the next activity. At camp, you will become closer to the campers in our group, and you ll also get to know campers from other church groups, who live in different cities and states. We will be forming close relationships with one another as you learn how to grow closer to God. Christians get to have a relationship with God that is very special, and no two relationships that He has are the same. We are going to begin forming a bond with one another by creating a secret handshake. To being, have each camper reach into the small container with the different phrases or words. The camper pulls out two cards to be included in the secret handshake. The campers then pair up with their partner from the name game, and they have a few minutes to come up with their own, personalized, secret handshake using the four actions or body parts. After the partners have practiced their handshake, and they feel comfortable with it, have them share their secret handshake with the group. 3

Playbook: The Theme for this summer is Game on... living a transformed life. Split the campers into two groups, and give each camper a postit note. It might be helpful for the third and fourth graders to be in group number one and the fifth and sixth graders to be in group number two. Instruct group number one to write or draw about the things that come to mind when they hear the words, Game on! Instruct group number two to write or draw about the things that come to mind when they hear the word, transformed. If a couple of campers are having trouble coming up with ideas, give them a chance to talk with another camper in their group. Once the campers have had a few minutes to come up with ideas, allow them to share it with the entire group. The key verse for CentriKid 2012 is, Therefore, brothers, by the mercies of God, I urge you to present your bodies as a living sacrifice, holy and pleasing to God; this is your spiritual worship. Do not be conformed to this age, but be transformed by the renewing of your mind, so that you may discern what is the good, pleasing, and perfect will of God. Romans 12:1-2 (HCSB) All week, we will be studying the life of Daniel, a guy who knew that Game on! meant living for God in everything he did, and we are going to learn about how he was transformed (changed) by God. You have the chance to be transformed and live for Jesus, just like Daniel! Many of you have heard about what it means to become a Christian, but if you haven t, I would love to talk to you about it! If you would like to talk, find me or another adult after our meeting. ** It s always great to give campers who have been thinking about following Christ for awhile the chance to make that decision and to help walk them through the process. If you have campers that are ready because of things they heard at VBS or Sunday School, why not help them make that decision now, so they ll hop off the bus ready to learn more and grow in their relationship with Christ! 4

Huddle Up: We are going to be leaving for camp in only days! I am so excited to spend the week with you and watch you grow spiritually. Let s spend some time praying that the Lord would help us be ready to grow and become more like Him. Why do you think we should ask him to help us? In what areas of your life do you need to be transformed (changed)? Have the campers write down their prayers and the areas of their lives that they need to be transformed. Have the campers put their prayers in an envelope with their name on it. Assure them that this is for their eyes only. Let them know that after camp, they will get the chance to read their prayers again and reflect on the ways that God transformed them. 5

camp2 before meeting YOU LL NEED: Five objects for each group (6-8 campers) to juggle. Examples of objects: bean bags, sponge balls, tennis balls, rings, yarn balls, etc. A returning camper that is willing to share his/her testimony The fifth promo video from CentriKid.com GGD: Spend some time making sure you have everyone s forms, payment, etc. This will make the morning when you load the vans/ busses go much smoother. Play the promo video. This video will inform the campers of all the fun things that they will get to do at CentriKid. You can also check out more location specific things in your group leader information packet. For Fun: Group Juggling Group campers in teams of six to eight. Have the group choose one object they want to start juggling with. The juggling starts with one member by him/her tossing it to a teammate and then they toss to another teammate, etc. Tell your campers that it is very important that each group remember the order in which the object was tossed. Once a pattern has been set with one object, try the same pattern using two objects, then three, maybe four, and even up to five objects. Playbook: What made the juggling game difficult? What did you have to do to keep the game going?(focus) Just like you had to focus in that game, we have to focus in life too. We have to focus on God, just like Daniel did! There are a lot of distractions in our lives. What are some of the things that distract us from focusing on God? (TV, video games, school, friends, sports, etc.) At CentriKid, you are going to get a chance to get away from the distractions that you have on a daily basis. We are going to get a chance to really focus on God! Hebrews 12:1-2 says Therefore, since we also have such a large cloud of witnesses surrounding us, let us lay aside every weight and the sin that so easily ensnares us. Let us run with endurance the race that lies before us, keeping our eyes on Jesus, the source and perfecter of our faith, who for the joy that lay before Him endured a cross and despised the shame and has sat down at the right hand of God s throne. Jesus died on a cross for us so that we could live our lives for Him! He is calling us to declare Game on for Him! TESTIMONY: At this time, you can have a camper share his/her testimony. He/she can share about how God worked in his/her life at camp, when all of the distractions were taken away and they were able to focus on God. (If you don t have any returning campers, share from your own experience at CentriKid as a leader, or even at camp as a kid.) Huddle Up: Today we re going to pray that God would take away all of the distractions from us. Let s pray that God would help us focus on Him at camp so that our lives can be transformed. Also, let s take time to pray for the CentriKid staff that will be working with us. Let s pray that they would be free from distractions, so that God can use them to teach us. 6

camp1 after meeting YOU LL NEED: A copy of the End of the Week DVD from camp Snacks Before your first post-camp gathering, make sure to send invitations to all the kids who were at camp. For Fun: When the campers have arrived, allow them to grab a snack, and show the DVD from camp. By the time the DVD is finished, they should be finishing up their snacks. Have them throw away their trash and have a seat. After the video, allow campers to share their favorite camp memories. Make sure you share a couple, too. Ask campers if they still have their camper devotion book and if they re keeping up with them. Encourage them to use that guide to continue spending daily time with God. Playbook: On the last day of camp, we read Hebrews 10:23-25. Let s read it again to reflect and think about how we re living out our calling after camp. Hebrews 10:23-25 (HCSB) Let us hold on to the confession of our hope without wavering, for He who promised is faithful. And let us be concerned about one another in order to promote love and good works, not staying away from our worship meetings, as some habitually do, but encouraging each other, and all the more as you see the day drawing near. after camp to share about God s love for us. Have you had a chance to encourage anyone? How can we encourage one another today? One way we re going to continue living out what we learned at CentriKid is to work on a missions project together! All in! There are many ministry opportunities available for your campers to participate in. You could all participate in a service project in your community, or you could help and/or pray for communities in another country. The following are links and descriptions of a few options: KIDS ON MISSION - http://kidsonmission.org/ Kids On Mission is a collection of missions experiences that you can plug into what you re already doing. Children grades 1 through 6 will learn about exotic destinations, different cultures and what missionaries are doing around the world. They will see how they can be a part of what God is doing, too! ONE LIFE - http://www.onelifematters.org/ OneLife moves Jesus followers to the grassroots level of missions. OneLife transforms lives through holistic ministry meeting both physical and spiritual need. OneLife develops advocates for global causes and needs. OneLife gives missions a name, a face and a place. This ministry has opporutnities in Africa, where the CentriKid missions offering will go. SWEET SLEEP - http://www.sweetsleep.org/ Sweet Sleep is a faith-based nonprofit organization which provides beds to the world s orphaned and abandoned children, demonstrating God s love for them and improving their quality of life. Huddle Up: Take time to pray for the people that your group has decided to minister to. Pray that God would use you and your campers in a BIG way. Also, pray for the missions offering that was given at camp. Pray that God would use it to spread the Gospel and transform lives! Allow campers to share about opportunities that they ve had 7

camp2 after meeting YOU LL NEED: A camper to share their testimony about their experience at camp/after camp. For Fun: Bumper Cars Have campers find a partner and find a good self space in the activity area. One partner is in front, and the other is behind with their hands on top of the front person s shoulders. The front person is to close their eyes or use a blindfold. Have the partner drive their partner around without crashing into other cars (i.e., campers). This should be done walking. The person with their eyes closed can put their hands up for bumpers if they want. Also, the driver can tap on the head for a horn if there is traffic. At this time, allow a camper share his/her testimony about their experience at camp/after camp. You can do this in the form of an interview, if the camper would be more comfortable with that. What can you do to allow God to continue to transform you? Are you living for God in everything that you do? GAME ON! Lord, All in! Take this time to devote to your missions project. Huddle Up: Ask your campers to think about one person they know that isn t a Christian. Lead them in a time of prayer: Thank you for letting me go to CentriKid. I am glad that I got to learn more about You and become closer to You. I pray that (non-christian friend) would see a difference in me. Please help me to be brave, like Daniel, and talk to my friend about you. I pray that (non-christian friend) would become a Christian. *If you have not already done so, be sure to sign up NOW for CentriKid 2013. You ll save your church s spots for camp, and also be included on email updates from our CentriKid Camps office every month until camp! Just like your partner had to help steer you in the right direction, God does that for us. At camp you learned all about Daniel and how God changed his life and steered him in the right direction. Now, you have a chance to reflect and think about how God is transforming/steering your life. Playbook: Pass out the envelopes that include the campers prayers from your first pre-camp meeting. Allow the campers to read their prayers and desired areas of transformation. Give them time to think about how God has answered those prayers and has allowed them to be transformed. Did the Lord answer your prayers? Have you been transformed? Are you continuing to be transformed? Now that you re back at home, are you allowing distractions to get in your way? 8
