FINLAND Thursday, 8 th Monday, 12 th June 100 th Anniversary of Finnish Independence Airshow; Arrivals Day (tbc); Finnish Aeronautical Association s 2017 International Airshow; & National Aviation Museum Optional Flight in Junkers JU-52! PROVISIONAL ITINERARY & GENERAL INFORMATION Our tour last year to Finland was very popular and we have no hesitation in going back to this beautiful country for the second year running when the Finns will be celebrating the 100 th anniversary of their independence as a sovereign country. Among the many celebratory events being organised is an airshow in Helsinki. The flying display will take place over the water, immediately in front of the city s seafront, starting in the evening from 18:00. The days are long and the nights are short with the sun setting around 22:40 and rising at 04:00 on the 8/9th June; the sun will be to the north not shining down your camera lens! Among the participants will be this beautiful Gloster Gauntlet! We have been advised by the organisers that they plan to take photographers on to the ramp at Helsinki Airport to photograph the participating jet aircraft which will operate out of the airport (tbc). The criteria for participating in the airshow is that all aircraft have to represent the past, the present or future era of Finnish aviation. Speaking of the future, the Finnish Air Force is currently evaluating a successor for its F/A-18 Hornet fleet and it is widely expected that most, if not all, of the 5 competing aircraft will attend: the F-35, F-18 Super Hornet, Dassault Rafale, JAS Gripen and Eurofighter Typhoon! Also over the same weekend is an international airshow, hosted by the Finnish Aeronautical Assocation, in Seinajoki. We will therefore drive north into central Finland and stay 2 nights in the town with a full day at the show. One of JU-Air s Junker Ju-52s will be flying from Dubendorf via Berlin and Stockholm to attend the 100 th Anniversary Airshow. Seats will be available on both flights either from or to Switzerland. Also, on the Thursday and Friday in Helsinki there will be several local sightseeing flights. We await details of all flight options. We are also looking to offer seats on the aircraft from Helsinki to Seinajoki on the Saturday when it will fly in formation with the Finnish DC-3 (OH-LCH) to the airshow: seats will be very limited and if granted we will only be able to hold them for a few days. We await the price but if interested please contact us immediately. The rest of the group will travel by chartered coach, a journey of about 5 hours. Also on the itinerary is a visit to the Finnish National Aviation Museum: the Suomen Ilmailumuseum. Tour 227729 Finland Provisional Itinerary Issue 1 Page 1 of 7

We fly on the scheduled services of Finnair from London s Heathrow Airport (the outbound flight is currently on one of their new Airbus A350-900 XWBs); travel in-country is by air-conditioned coach (see appropriate paragraph on page 4 General Information ); we stay each night in superior standard hotels on a bed and breakfast basis; and are accompanied throughout by one of our Aviation Tour Managers. This promises to be a great tour and it s also a perfect long weekend break for non-aviation minded persons! PROVISIONAL ITINERARY (all times local) DAY 1: THURSDAY, 8 th JUNE Between 08:00 08:50 please check in with Finnair who operate out of Terminal 3 at London s Heathrow Airport. Then meet your Ian Allan Tour Manager, and fellow enthusiasts, who will be assembling in the check-in area. Latest check in time is 45 minutes, however, we recommend you arrive at least 90 minutes prior to departure as going through security in Terminal 3 can take a while: i.e. at 08:50 Heathrow Airport, Terminal 3 Flight: AY 832 Departs: 10:20 Helsinki Arrives: 15:15 On arrival we board our chartered coach and visit the huge collection of aircraft in the Suomen Ilmailumuseum near the airport. The museum has very kindly agreed to stay open past the normal closing time of 17:00, until 20:00 if needs be. Website: http://ilmailumuseo.fi/ Note: as granted last year we will again ask to see any aircraft undergoing restoration. We then continue into Helsinki, staying 2 nights at the Sokos Hotel Albert on a bed and breakfast basis. The hotel is located in the trendy Punavuori area which is the design and bohemian district and only 10 minutes walk to shopping, restaurants and night life. Closer to the hotel are small local restaurants, bars and shops. Along with the Papa Albert Italian restaurant, this smoke-free hotel has a bar/lounge, coffee shop/café, free wi-fi in public areas, a sauna, and coffee/tea in a common area. Quick and easy travel around Helsinki is possible using the city s tram network: the nearest tram stop is only a couple of minutes walk away. Website: www.sokoshotels.fi/fi/helsinki/sokos-hotel-albert Also a short walk away is the tram stop for the famous Spårakoff Pub Tram. This bright red streetcar-come-mobile pub travels through the city streets with up to 30 passengers and unlimited reserves of Koff beer. With regular departures, it s a great way to see the city since the route takes in most major downtown sights, including Linnanmäki, Töölö Bay and the Olympic Stadium and yes, there is also a toilet on board! DAY 2: FRIDAY, 9 th JUNE A free day. We await confirmation and details of going on to the ramp at Helsinki Airport during the day to photograph participating aircraft. Alternatively, enjoy the day exploring Helsinki as you wish. In the evening there is the 100 th Anniversary Airshow which takes place on the seafront between the districts of Kaivopuisto and Katajanokka. You may watch the show on your own or accompany your Ian Allan Tour Manager: when/where to meet will be decided on tour. Tour 227729 Finland Provisional Itinerary Issue 1 Page 2 of 7

DAY 3: SATURDAY, 10 th JUNE Today we drive north to the small town of Seinajoki, a drive of about 5 hours with convenience stops along the way including lunch (at your own expense). Depending on the departure time of the Ju-52 (pictured right) we will first drop off at Helsinki Airport those members of the group who have taken up the option of flying on the aircraft to Seinajoki. And hopefully we have a chance to take photos. Arriving in Seinajoki we check in to the Sorsanpesa Hotel for 2 nights on a bed and breakfast basis. Located on the riverside a couple of miles outside of the town its facilities include restaurant, bar, sauna, swimming pool and free wi-fi. Website: www.sorsanpesa.fi/pages/en/home.php?lang=en DAY 4: SUNDAY, 11 th JUNE Departing the hotel at 09:00 we drive to Seinajoki airfield which is normally a 9 minutes drive away. We spend the day at the Seinajoki International Airshow which features both national and international, civil and military aircraft in a static display and flying programme. The organisers expect 30+ aircraft participating in the flying programme. We await confirmation of special arrangements for photographers and an optional VIP upgrade with exclusive viewing area and lunch. DAY 5: MONDAY, 12 th JUNE At 08:30 we return to Helsinki Airport and check in with Finnair for our flight back to Heathrow Airport; latest check in time is 45 minutes, however, we will arrive at least 1 hour prior to departure: 15:00. Helsinki Flight: AY 833 Departs: 16:00 Heathrow Airport, Terminal 3 Arrives: 17:10 Whilst waiting for our luggage in Baggage Reclaim we bid each other farewell until the next time! GENERAL INFORMATION Payment for A deposit of 300.00 per person should accompany your Booking Form, with the balance due 10 weeks prior to the tour s departure. Please see your Booking Confirmation/Invoice for the exact date. Please note that a reminder of the payment date will not be sent. Passports and Visas Citizens of the UK are required to be in possession of a Full UK Passport, which must be valid for at least 6 months from the date of your return. You may also refer to the World Travel Guide website: www.wtgonline.com for general information on passports, visas and health requirements. British passport holders do not require a visa to enter Finland. Foreign & Commonwealth Office (FCO) Consular Advice The FCO's consular service is a major operation. Every hour of every day consular staff around the world are advising and helping British nationals. For up-to-date passport, visa and security information on the destination you intend visiting, we suggest you visit: www.fco.gov.uk/knowbeforeyougo In addition, the Association of British Travel Agents (ABTA) provide an Information Line for UK callers only, telephone: 020 3117 0599. This line is open between the hours 10:00 16:00, Monday to Friday (excluding bank holidays). Coach Travel only use coaches chartered from reputable companies, with a driver. Where we have had to cancel a tour, due to the small number of bookings, we have looked at the possibility of renting a 16-18 seater mini-van, with our tour manager driving. However, without exception, the hiring of such a vehicle is illegal if any of the occupants make any payment towards the rental price, fuel and/or other expenses - known as for hire or reward. Any such rental, made without these facts being made known to the rental company at the time of booking, also invalidates all insurance covering the vehicle, contents and persons. The DVLA has also confirmed that any for hire or reward rental could breach the normal driving classification of a standard U.K. driver s license. Therefore, we do not undertake any tours using 9-18 seater mini-vans from a rental company; either with our tour manager, or a member of the group, driving. Baggage Regulations Finnair Departing from London s Heathrow Airport Checked Baggage: Included in your Finnair air ticket is one piece of hold baggage with the maximum weight of 50lbs (23kgs) and external dimensions (length + width + height) of up to 62ins (158cms). It will be the individual s responsibility to ensure that they re-join the group in the hotel at the stated time on the day of departure.
