NATO TIGER MEET 2015 Konya AFB, Turkey; 2 Spotters Days; Turkish Air Force Museums in Istanbul & Ankara PROVISIONAL ITINERARY & GENERAL INFORMATION Tuesday, 5 th Sunday, 10 th May The annual NATO Tiger Meet is a very, very popular flying exercise not only for NATO pilots but also for aviation photographers. This year the event is hosted by the Turkish Air Force on their airbase at Konya (perhaps more famous for its religious and cultural tourist attractions). Details of the TWO special spotters days were given to us by the Turkish authorities several weeks ago - and were re-confirmed to us at the beginning of January. We await details of the exact arrangements and timings, and any charges. We fly on the scheduled international and domestic services of Turkish Airlines from London s Gatwick Airport; stay 5 nights in superior standard hotels on a Half Board basis (breakfast and evening meal); travel around Turkey is by specially chartered coach and rail; and in addition to an Ian Allan Tour Manager we are accompanied by local English-speaking guides. This is always one of our most popular tours and already we have received nearly 30 bookings but we have room for more photographers/enthusiasts to join us! Please note that as we had already filled our allocation of seats on the mid-morning Turkish Airlines flight to Istanbul before this itinerary was released and the flight is now full, all bookings received from the 5 th January are flying on the airline s midday departure as part of GROUP B from Gatwick Airport as detailed in this itinerary. PROVISIONAL ITINERARY (all times local) DAY 1: TUESDAY, 5 th MAY Between 09:30 10:35 hrs. please check-in with Turkish Airlines in the North Terminal at London s Gatwick Airport. Then meet your Ian Allan Tour Manager who will be standing adjacent to the check-in area. Latest check-in time we recommend is 2 hours prior to departure: i.e. 10:35 hrs. London Gatwick Airport, North Terminal Flight No: TK 1966 Departs: 12:35 Istanbul Ataturk Airport Arrives: 18:25 Meeting our local guide, we transfer by private coach to the newly opened, 5* Gonen Hotel, located a 7- minutes drive from the airport. There are approximately 50 aircraft and helicopters, mostly on display outside. Our tour price includes the museum s additional charge for taking photographs (but not for video recordings). Website: www.aviationmuseum.eu/world/europe/turkey/istanbul/yesilkoymuseum.htm From midday we will have a guided tour of the city with visits to The Grand Bazaar, Topkapi Palace and Galata Bridge (with its many restaurants), followed by some time at leisure. Alternatively, you are free to enjoy the day as you choose, meeting up with the rest of the group at Turkish Airlines check-in area at the airport that evening. Latest time we recommend for checking in is 19:25 hrs.. Istanbul Ataturk Airport Flight: TK 2038 Departs: 21:25 Konya Arrives: 22:45 Waiting for us is our local guide, driver and chartered coach for the transfer to the 5* Anemon Konya Hotel. Website: www.anemonhotels.com/en/hotel-konya/anemon-konya.aspx DAYS 3 & 4: THURSDAY, 7 th MAY & FRIDAY, 8 th MAY The Turkish Air Force has designated these 2 days for enthusiasts to take photographs. We await details of what the arrangements are, timings and any admission charge. GENERAL INFORMATION Payment for A deposit of 300.00 per person should accompany your Booking Form, with the balance due 10 weeks prior to the tour s departure. Please see your Booking Confirmation/Invoice for the exact date. Please note that a reminder of the payment date will not be sent. Passports and Visas Citizens of the UK are required to be in possession of a Full UK Passport, which must be valid for at least 6 months from the date of your return. You may also refer to the World Travel Guide: www.worldtravelguide.net for general information on passports, visas and health requirements. UK passport holders require a visa to enter Turkey. You can apply online prior to travel by going to the following website: https://www.evisa.gov.tr/en/apply/ EU passport holders please check with your nearest Turkish Embassy/Consulate. Foreign & Commonwealth Office (FCO) Consular Advice The FCO's consular service is a major operation. Every hour of every day consular staff around the world are advising and helping British nationals. For up-to-date passport, visa and security information, we suggest you visit www.gov.uk/foreign-travel-advice In addition, the Association of British Travel Agents (ABTA) provides both a web site http://abta.com/gotravel and an Information Line, telephone: 020 3117 0599. This line is open between the hours 10:00 16:00, Monday-Friday (excluding bank holidays). Coach Travel only use coaches chartered from reputable companies, with a driver. Where we have had to cancel a tour, due to the small number of bookings, we have looked at the possibility of renting a 16-18 seater minibus, with our tour manager driving. However, without exception, the hiring of such a vehicle is illegal if any of the occupants make any payment towards the rental price, fuel and/or other expenses - known as for hire or reward. Any such rental, made without these facts being known to the rental company at the time of booking, also invalidates all insurance covering the vehicle, contents and persons. The DVLA has also confirmed that any for hire or reward rental could breach the normal driving classification of a standard UK driver s license. Therefore, we do not undertake any tours using 9-18 seater minibuses from a rental company; either with our tour manager, or a member of the group, driving. Baggage Regulations Turkish Airlines Departing from London s Gatwick Airport Checked Baggage: Turkish Airlines will transport 1 piece of checked baggage per person free of charge, the total dimensions of which must not exceed 75in x 29½in x 25½in (190cm x 75cm x 65cm) including the handle, pockets and wheels. Flexible Itinerary We are very happy for enthusiasts to take time away from the printed itinerary to pursue their own interests so long as they inform the Tour Manager. It will be the individual s responsibility to ensure that they re-join the group in the hotel at the stated time on the day of departure. Land Only Price For enthusiasts who would prefer to join the tour in Istanbul (instead of flying from London s Gatwick Airport with the main group), we will be very pleased to provide a Land Only price: NO FLIGHTS will be included. You are strongly advised to contact us before making your own flight arrangements in the event that there has been a change to the published itinerary. Please note that the Land only price is based on you meeting up with the group at the hotel in Istanbul; it does not include the transfers on Days 1 and 6. The Istanbul hotel offers a complimentary transfer service from the International Terminal, Door A. On Day 6 in Ankara, should your departure plans coincide with that of the group, a seat will be offered on the coach if available at a supplement of 20.00. This payment will be due with your final payment.
