Four Seasons Wings Page #2 Chapter Director s Greetings Chapter M2 June 2018 By Dale Yager We have a variety of rides listed for this summer and hopefully something for everyone. We have long rides, short rides, event rides and destination rides. Many of us do a lot of planning for these events for the members. To start we have what is called cooks night out. Our treasurer, Rusti Boykin, is in charge of these rides where on the first Thursday of the month we go to a different destination for dinner. The weather dictates if we ride to it but it still takes place if the weather doesn t cooperate. We take 4 wheels if needed. We do this all year long. We also have ice cream rides on the last Friday night of the month. This is a seasonal event from the end of April to October depending on the weather. Bob Topper has been handling these rides. Both the dinner rides and ice cream rides are shorter rides for those who are unable to ride long distance. We also have a ride scheduled after gatherings with a variety of destinations. For all these rides we try to ride as a group. We are finalizing details for this month s ride. Additional events that are still being planned are the Nagy Joint Picnic with Asheville Chapter I being held on July 28 th at the Saluda Park in Saluda. The Nagy s have told me that they plan to be here for this event. This is after Chapter I s gathering. Cost for this is $5.00 per person to cover all the extras that we will need. The following week will be the progressive dinner ride. This is a Chapter NC-M2 event where we ride from a starting point to our first stop at a member s residence for appetizers. We ride again to another member s house for our main meal then ride again to our final destination, another member s house for dessert. It s a fun filled day of riding and eating. Cost for this is also $5.00 per person. Long distance rides: First on the schedule is a ride to Helen, GA. for lunch with a stop at Tallulah Falls. This is set for Sunday, June 17 th. We will leave Ingles on Spartanburg and Upward at 9:00am. I will need to know in advance if you plan to go on this ride. Please e-mail me if you plan to go. doowing@aol.com. Also in the long distance category is the Mt. Airy weekend getaway planned for July 13 th -15 th. (See the flyer in this newsletter.) The contact for this ride is Bob Topper. The final long distance ride is the Barber Motorcycle Museum weekend event from September 7 th 9 th. Come see one of the biggest motorcycle museums in the country! Also see the flyer in this newsletter.
As always you can check out our website for upcoming ride events. We had a pretty good turnout for the Ride to Remember. Amongst us was Bill Kennedy, Marvin Decker, Frank Pizzardi, Rusti Boykin, Bob Topper, Michelle and me. Our last ice cream ride had on and off rain which scared most everyone away. Bob and Diane Redding, Bob Topper, Michelle and I were all brave enough to try. If you re a Road Captain, we need you to help out with some of the planned rides. I will be able to handle most of the rides but not all of them. Want to help out? Pick a couple of the rides on the schedule and offer to organize and lead them. Remember this is our Chapter, not just mine. Ride to Remember Bristol, TN

Everyone can post pictures & comments there. RIDE COORDINATOR Riding this season will be like none that I or any of you have ridden in the past. Since we have been dealing with the large volumes of rain like never before, caution is the word of the day. We had to cancel the ride to Strawberry Hill last month because of the heavy rains and the unknowns of the route to get there. I always hate canceling scheduled rides but it looks like it was a wise decision. Since then we have had so much rain that we continue to have mud slides, roads eroding, trees falling, gravel washout and so many other unknowns. It will be some time before I will feel comfortable riding some of the roads we all have come to love. I am urging you to use caution and check the condition of some roads by cars and trucks before venturing down them on 2 wheels. Page #5 R e f l e c t i o n s o f t h e M e m b e r s h i p E n h a n c e m e n t C o o r d i n a t o r Here we are, the beginning of June. I think we can all agree that Mother Nature has not been kind for riding lately! Rain, raging rivers, mud slides and flooding to the degree we have had is surely not normal! Perhaps we need a Goldwing sacrifice to please the weather Gods. Any volunteers? Speaking of volunteers, some will be needed for our upcoming Joint Picnic. Let me explain. The plan at present is as follows: Some food has been donated by the Nagy s and will have to be supplemented with more. Seeing how there is a meeting and bike ride prior to the picnic we are looking for non-perishable desserts to be donated by the riders. All other foods & supplies will be purchased ahead of time by myself and my wife and brought to the site the day of the picnic. We will need a couple other people to help set up before everyone gets there. This could be an opportunity for non-riders to help out while riders go on a ride. We will be looking for volunteers at our next meeting and I will be going to the Chapter I meeting in June for help from them also. Need help to set up, cook & serve and as always clean up. I know everyone will help but there needs to be a few who will sign up and take charge. Fun is planned to be had by all and hope you all plan on being there and welcoming the Nagy s. More details at our next monthly meetings. Until Next Time, Ken Weglarz
