EVENT CONCEPT WHERE & WHEN For 3 days, from 15-17th February 2019, Dar es Salaam (Tanzania s largest city with 4.3 million population) will host Tanzania s first Domestic Tourism Trade Fair, known by the name UWANDAE EXPO2019. ( UWANDAE is a short form of Kiswahili Utalii Wa Ndani Expo meaning Domestic Tourism Expo). It will be organised by the Association of Women in Tourism Tanzania (AWOTTA), in collaboration with a number of prestigious partners including: Tanzania Women Chamber of Commerce (TWCC), the Tanzania Tourist Board (TTB) and Tanzania Trade Development Authority (Tantrade). Lead sponsor is the Deutsche Gesellschaft für Technische Zusammenarbeit or German International Cooperation (GIZ) BE PART OF HISTORY This event is the first Domestic Tourism and Trade fair to be held in Tanzania, and has been specifically designed to give businesses, organisations, administrators and the general public (who are potential customers) access to quality products, services and leaders within this sector. The aim is that UWANDAE EXPO will become the leading annual event for the Tanzanian Domestic Tourism market. Endorsed by the Ministry of Natural Resources and Tourism (see attachment, there will be a focus on highlighting the contribution that women make to our billion dollar tourism industry, and how to develop opportunities for women to drive the nations economic growth expectations. Women form more than 50% of the population of Tanzania, and the popular saying, Nani kama Mama, means that the children of Tanzania look to the next generation of women to lay the ground that will lead to their prosperity. It is in this spirit that AWOTTA and its supporters welcome your esteemed participation as an exhibitor, sponsor, donor, buyer or visitor at UWANDAE EXPO2019. OBJECTIVES i. To showcase the diversity of tourism activities that are being practiced by Tanzanians, and facilitate investment in the domestic tourism market and its supply chain for economic growth and sustainable job opportunities as Tanzania moves towards becoming a middle income country. ii. To address the demands of the existing and growing domestic travel population for transport, accommodation, entertainment and services. (The domestic tourist is defined as any resident of our country travelling within its boundaries in pursuit of a specific product or service away from home ). By expanding the existing narrow definition to that which is recognised on a more inclusive stage, UWANDAE EXPO 2019 will unleash the huge potential this sector has to offer, not only for those businesses directly involved in transport, accommodation or destinations, but for those in the extended supply chain, inc. financial and health services, telecoms, utilities and education etc. iii.
