Government accounts, as reported by banks in 344 selected centers for the month of October aggregated $308.7 billion. During the past three months debits amounted to $853*0 billion or 9*8 per cent above the total reported for the corresponding period a year ago. At banks in New York City there was an increase of 10.5 per cent compared with the corresponding three-months period a year ago; at 6 other leading centers the increase was 13.1 per cent; and at 337 other centers it was 7*4 per cent. Seasonally adjusted debits to demand deposit accounts for 337 centers rose 4.5 per cent in October to a new high of $112.4 billion. The seasonally adjusted annual rate of demand deposit turnover at banks outside New York and other financial centers increased to 28.5 in October from 27.3 in September.
