TIPS FOR CRATE TRAINING: We at Carlson Pet Products care about your pet. If your pet has never experienced a crate before, it is important to have specific training for your pet s well being and safety. Failure to give your pet proper crate training, especially if your pet has never been in a crate before, can cause injury to your pet or damage to the crate. * When introducing your pet to their new crate, it is a good idea to make the environment fun. Put the crate in an comfortable environment where there is social interaction. It is a good idea to play with your pet around or near the area of the crate. This way he/she becomes comfortable and familiar with the crate in the home environment. * To start, put a treat in your pet s crate and let he/she go in the crate to get the treat for themselves. Leave the crate door open, allowing your pet to walk in and out of the crate. It is important your pets first impression of the crate is NOT confinement or punishment. The goal is for your pet to be comfortable and think of the crate as a safe space. * Store a few toys in your pets crate so he/she will enter on their own to play. * During the first few days of training, place the crate in your bedroom at night. This will help your pet adjust to their new environment. * Do NOT leave your pet unattended or confined in the crate for long amounts of time. If your pet is left in the crate for too many hours, the result may be urination or defecation. It may also cause anxiety and may lead to your pet trying to chew his/her way out which can cause serious injury or even death. If you are planning on being away for long periods everyday, please provide a larger confinement area for your pet such as an exercise pen or room. * Mistakes happen. Left on his/her own, and untrained pet is likely to make a mistake. Close supervision, patience, and consistency is essential to successful crate training! * Contact your local Veterinarian for professional and proper crate training information. (12)
CARE AND MAINTENANCE Periodically check the crate for signs of damage, wear or for missing components. Do not use if any part is missing, worn or damaged. Top cover and bottom tray can be cleaned by spraying with a hose. Be sure to completely dry them before installing the metal frame. DO NOT spray down the metal frame, as this may cause it to rust.
