Happy March Porschephiles As I write this, there is still snow on the ground, but thoughts of warmer days and fun drives are not far from the top of everyone s minds. We ve had great turnouts this winter at the 1 st Saturdays at DPat. Good conversation, a lot of nice new cars to ogle, and the hospitality of Tony and crew. If you haven t been, plan on attending next month! Speaking of DPat, we d like to welcome back Micah Goodman. After a 17-month exile in Louisville, Micah is back where he belongs! We are looking forward to scheduling more of Micah s tech talks, which were very popular among members. Thanks to Criss and Macie Yelton for hosting the Wine & Cheese Party last month. Judy and I were unable to attend, but heard great things about Dale Fatland s wine talk Dale knows his liquids oil or wine! I d also like to thank Jerry Jindrich for designing and printing our new nametags. Be sure to get Jerry a picture of your car so he can print a customer tag for you. And, we now have special SIR PCA lanyards so you can keep track of the tags. Have a great month! And, as always, feel free to call me at (812) 842-0633 or drop me an email at gfcollins911@gmail.com Greg
Wine and Cheese Party Our first event of 2013 (not counting 1st Saturday gatherings) was a Wine and Cheese party at Criss and Macie Yelton's home on February 23rd. Sixteen SIR-PCA members and spouses or significant others enjoyed the cordial late afternoon/early evening get-together. We talked. We tasted fascinating cheeses and hors d'oeuvres. Dale Fatland led us through an educational wine tasting. Some of us watched a Porsche Factory Tour video. If you weren't able to attend, you missed an enjoyable evening and you should come next time. Here are some photos: There are a couple more on the SIR website at: http://www.sir-pca.org/new-welcome/finalevent-photos-page/2013wineandcheese SIR Website & Name Tags Several updates were made to the SIR-PCA website (www.sir-pca.org) over the past week. Photos from the Wine and Cheese Party and December's LeMans Party were added. A series of shots of Terry Davis in an SCCA Autocross was uploaded to give you an idea of a different sort of fun you can have in a Porsche. And last February's introduction of the new 911 was added. Our event calendar was posted, too, although you should rely on newsletter and email notifications for last-minute event details. Spring is coming soon, and with it comes your chance to take good photos of your car for use on website Member Profiles page and on club name tags. Name tags personalized with shots of member's cars were handed out at the Wine and Cheese Party. Though most of us knew each other, there always seems to be one or two people whose names you can't quite remember. Name tags also related wearers to specific cars. Greg Collins provided some spiffy black lanyards complete with PCA, Porsche, and Southern Indiana lettering. Jerry
Events Page March We re getting closer to warmer days and with a time change ahead and more daylight hours there will be more outdoor activities to fill our days. I always look forward to the green of spring, but what comes with it is lawn mowing and maintenance. So, as a thought, the same is true of your favorite car. Maybe it has been slumbering this winter, but now is the time to think about what your car may need before warm weather is here. It is always good to check/change oil and other fluids such as your brake fluid. It may be a good time for a brake fluid flush if it has not been done in a while. It might also be a good time to inspect the brake pads for wear. The sound of metal on metal when applying brakes will ruin any drive and surely cost more to repair after it is too late! I m not trying to make anyone paranoid, but now is the time to think preemptively! This last month we had a Wine and Cheese event at the Yelton s house. Thanks to Criss and Macie. There was a table full of cheeses or cheese related possibilities as well as a few other hors d oeuvres. Dale Fatland led an informative discussion of wine types and expectations. I believe he selected about a half dozen bottles from those brought to the event and then poured samples to all wanting to differentiate the nuances! I hope I don t sound snooty! He he! For me, it was interesting to hear the responses. It is fairly obvious why there are so many types and varieties.as it demonstrates that each of us has a different palate. Thanks to Dale. In addition, Jerry Jendrich had brought along a DVD of the Porsche factory following the process of making a 911. We watched in the theater room of the basement with stadium seating. Very nice indeed.watching the DVD does make you proud to own a Porsche! Jerry also brought along name tags and Greg Collins supplied official Porsche PCA SIR lanyards. Several of our members had suggested that they thought this is a good way to help remember others by name at our events, and so, it has been done. The name tags have a picture of your car and they look very nice. When you come to the next event, seek out Jerry to get yours.
Upcoming Favorite Drive Tour I want to reemphasize the Favorite Drive Tour event. I m sure many of us have a road or two that they go out on for a drive when the urge for some seat time in their Porsche strikes them. It doesn t have to be to go somewhere. The road is the destination providing a combination of curves and scenery. So, give some thought to suggesting an enjoyable drive and let me know. A ½-hour drive will be fine. We will combine a couple drives together and end up somewhere interesting. Let s hear your suggestion. March 23 Drive I-69 to Nashville IN The main event for March is a drive up the new I69 and then we will cut over and drive through a scenic area that crosses Lake Monroe. We will end up in Nashville IN for lunch in one of their local restaurants and then visit some of the many artist and antique shops. If you ve not been to Nashville IN, it is a great destination and shouldn t be nearly as crowded this time of year. 1st Saturday event at D-Pat on 3/2 1 st Sat will be this Saturday March 2nd. Be there 9am. It is a nice time to stop in and see all our Porsche friends from D-Pat and SIR. A donut never fails to sweeten ones morning. Thanks to Tony for being our host. Below is the SIR Events Calendar for 2013. The events have been color coded for added meaning. Set your calendars in advance to give the best opportunity to participate as much as possible. Mark

.. Did you see this??? Scoop: New Porsche Macan SUV Drives Around for the Camera The next big, or shall we say, smaller thing to come from Porsche is a second crossover model that will be positioned under the Cayenne and with which the German company will fight for sales in the mid-size segment rivaling the likes of the Audi Q5, BMW X3 and Mercedes-Benz GLK. The Stuttgart-based automaker has already picked a name for its "baby" SUV that will be known as the Macan. Spy hunters recently snapped some video footage of a camouflaged prototype of the new Macan testing on European roads. Porsche's new offering in the SUV segment will share a platform architecture with the new Audi Q5, though company officials claim to have made many changes under the skin, from the suspension to the engines and the all-wheel drive systems. While it is likely to launch with V6 engines, the Macan is rumored that it will eventually become the first modern-day Porsche to offer four-cylinder power plants.
As Greg mentioned earlier, Micah Goodman has returned to Dpat as Operations Director for Body Shop & Service. Many of us remember the informative and educational tech sessions that Micah presented. Micah Goodman I spoke recently spoke with Micah at the 1 st. Saturday event. Micah shared his enthusiasm for reintroducing the tech sessions to our list of club events. Tony Ricketts also offered Dpat s facilities for hosting. We welcome Micah s return, and we look forward to seeing him very soon and often. Speaking of 1 st. Saturday, please try to attend these get-togethers. It is indeed a relaxing time to meet, chat, look over the cars. It was even a bit snowy March 2 nd
