The captain can change course when word of whale sightings comes in over the radio, or slow to linger if bears are foraging on the beach. If everyone agrees to spend extra time hiking that s what you can do. It s your trip. A note about Small ship cruising One of the primary advantages of seeing the Inside Passage on the Safari Explorer is the remarkable degree of flexibility built into the itinerary. Except for a stop at Bartlett Cove in Glacier Bay Natural Park (and, of course, arrival and departure days), there is no need to be at any particular place at a fixed time during this program. This means that you will have the opportunity to watch while whales breach and play, to kayak near rafts of inquisitive sea otters, to float on the swell as icebergs crash into the sea. In other words, you will have the luxury of time to appreciate the wild beauty of the Inside Passage, and the freedom to just be.

Alaska s Inside Passage N Alaska is a destination of superlatives most rugged, most remote, most majestic. For centuries, travelers have made difficult, dangerous journeys to explore - and to exploit - this harsh and beautiful land. The inexorable forces of nature are on full display here - mountains eroded by the crushing force of massive glaciers, icebergs crowding cold aquamarine seas, the reproductive cycles of plants and animals compressed into the scant, warm weeks of an arctic summer. Our 8-Day Itinerary Day 1: Arrive Juneau / Embarkation Day 2: Icy Strait and Point Adolphus Day 3: Glacier Bay National Park Day 4: Glacier Bay National Park Day 5: Frederick Sound Day 6: Admiralty Island Day 7: Ford s Terror and Endicott Arm Day 8: Return to Juneau / Disembarkation Day 1: Arrive in Juneau / Embarkation After your arrival in Juneau, transfer from the airport to the Safari Explorer for a late afternoon embarkation. Your crew greets you with champagne and smiles, and we ll cruise to a secluded wilderness anchorage this evening. (D) Day 2: Icy Strait and Point Adolphus Search for the tell-tale blow of the humpback whale as we cross Icy Strait and round Point Adolphus. After anchoring for the evening in a remote bay, we ll lower the kayaks and skiffs and look for wildlife such as sea otters and bears. (B,L,D) Days 3 4: Glacier Bay National Park During our two days in the park, we ll cruise nearly 60 miles to Grand Pacific and Margerie Glaciers, which frequently calve huge icebergs into the bay. Conditions permitting, we ll lower the inflatables and weave among the icebergs that have fallen from the face of the glaciers. Enjoy evenings at anchor in hidden coves, and mornings kayaking or hiking in the quiet of this majestic wilderness. Here in the bay there are puffins, sea lions, mountain goats, bears, moose, eagles, and some of the most spectacular scenery on Earth. (B,L,D) Day 5: Frederick Sound Today we ll cruise around Admiralty Island to prime humpback-viewing waters in Frederick Sound. We ll take time to skiff and kayak in Saginaw Bay, and cruise up close to a sea lion colony at the Brothers Islands. Tonight we ll anchor in a quiet, picturesque bay. (B,L,D) Day 6: Admiralty Island Explore the cool, forested shoreline of Gambier Bay, a large, island-speckled body of water on the south coast of Admiralty Island National Monument. Never logged, the thick evergreen forest crowds right down to the gravel beaches. Here it may be possible to see some of the famous Admiralty Island grizzly

(800) 681-7566 Berg Bay Bartlett Cove Juneau Inian Islands bears, known to patrol the beaches at low tide, seeking a shellfish supper. Once again under way, we ll watch for humpback whales before possibly anchoring at Wood Spit for more exploration by kayak and skiff. (B,L,D) Icy Strait Lemesurier Island Point Adolphus Chichagof Island Pavlof Harbor Douglas Island Admiralty Island Gambier Bay Stephen s Passage Endicott Arm Ford s Terror Dawes Glacier Day 7: Ford s Terror & Endicott Arm Deep glacial fjords are on display today in an Sitka area widely acclaimed as the most beautiful in all of Alaska. Snow gleams on high mountaintops and sparkling waterfalls tumble down cliffs as bears amble on the shoreline and mountain goats cling to impossibly precarious perches. If the tide is right, enjoy a skiff ride at Ford s Terror, named after an early mariner who was somewhat taken aback when a waterfall appeared at the turn of the tide where none had been visible before. We ll anchor overnight in a quiet harbor to enjoy the Captain s Farewell Dinner in a lovely and peaceful setting. (B,L,D) Baranof Island Saginaw Bay Frederick Sound Day 8: Return to Juneau / Disembarkation Arrive back in Juneau in the early morning, and transfer to the airport for return flights home. (B)

Live and learn Hear lectures and be accompanied throughout the journey by naturalist Greg Greer, who will speak about the ecosystem and flora and fauna of this primal wilderness. See where they roam In the Inside Passage you may see some of the most charismatic mammals of North America including grizzly bears, moose, caribou, Dall sheep, seals, sea otters, orcas and humpback whales. Highlights of our 8-day Alaska s Inside Passage Adventure Small is the new big thing Raw power, untamed beauty Sail on a deluxe, 36 guest vessel and experience the breathtaking fjords and quiet bays in ways only dreamt of by passengers on the mega-ships. Witness the raw beauty of the Alaskan coast, rimmed with snow-capped mountains, thick forests and massive glaciers. Your Leader & Guide Greg s love for wildlife began at the tender age of 4, when he caught his first snake, a California kingsnake, behind his childhood home. His wide ranging expertise in the natural world comes from his life-long passion for, and understanding of, the creatures with which we share this planet. A talented and enthusiastic all-around naturalist, his past travels have taken him from Antarctica to Zambia and many other destinations in between, including the Amazon, the Galapagos Islands, the Florida Everglades and Alaska. Greg Greer Orbridge Senior Naturalist Before joining Orbridge, Greg spent over a decade as a lead naturalist for an international travel company. He also served as the Executive Director of the Chattahoochee Nature Center (an environmental education facility in Roswell, Georgia), where he developed their first international eco-travel program. Through the past 35 years, Greg has given hundreds of lectures and presentations of natural history programs to a wide variety of audiences. Greg currently lives in Atlanta, Georgia.
