Additional Observations and Summary of Activities or Concerns Another week come and gone in Spread 4. There has been a very frigid wind chill that s been going on around the spread 4 area. We even got snow for the first time since November. This past week was spent mainly in the High Hill Creek area, as they decided to get all the sections tied in at the water crossing. They also decided to open cut the roadway, instead of boreing underneath it. I believe this was done because the slope into the creek area was much too steep. At the start of the week, excavators started to trench from the middle of the creek crossing, and outward east and west. It took some time to get it all trenched as they had to do a 3.7 metre trench, which is quite big. The crews laid out geo to make a walkway for the side booms to bring the pipe over to lower in. Next up, they had to open cut the roadway. They used the dozer with the ripper on the back to get started, as the road is very hard and compacted. The pipe was lowered into the creek first as there was a spring running water into trench. Next the pipe was laid into the open cut across the road. These connections were then made up by the welding crews. After the welds were done, the sandblasting crew and the jeep and coating crews went to work. After all this was completed, the excavators started to backfill down near the creek bed. It was decided that the pipe going across the road would first be covered in fillcrete. Fillcrete is a type of concrete that can be used, which will harden, but not as hard as concrete. That way if Enbridge ever needed to repair pipe it could still be dug out using an excavator. The fillcrete would need a minimum of 72 hours to harden and cure. So, they decided to let it sit till after the weekend. So, the backfill crew was able to start backfilling, but they also plan on finishing up next week. The next week is looking to be one of the last for spread 4, as Enbridge is planning to shut down for the winter once all the pipe is in the ground. They plan on returning in the spring for reclamation. Its been a long but very enlightening couple of months for the monitors on Spread 4. We are very appreciative of the opportunity given to us and we look forward to more opportunities in the future. Page 3 of 14
