Why this workshop Convention on Biodiversity Programme of Work on Protected Areas (PoWPA) with goals and targets Many targets bound to a 2010 deadline, the IYB and the year of the 2010 target Regional workshops to inform SBSTTA and COP 10 on status of implementation of the PoWPA and on fulfilment of 2010 target and to come up with recommendations for the renewal of the PoWPA Eastern Europe is a region where several donors (i.e. UNDP, WWF) have invested in assisting the implementation of the PoWPA This workshop has additional aim of building capacity on two issues of the PoWPA: - integration of PAs into the wider landscape/seascape, - governance of PAs Germany has supported the region by several workshops on generic and specific issues of the PoWPA and by other activities
