A GREAT THREE DAYS AT THE GREAT YORKSHIRE SHOW 2017
133,542 visitors over the three days, including a record second day which saw over 20,000 cars fill the car parks and a marriage proposal, made for a wonderful 2017 Great Yorkshire Show. As the 2017 Show drew to a close Lord Middleton handed over the traditional Shepherd s Crook to the incoming President Bill Cowling and rounded off the final day of an exciting show. JUST A FEW OF THE HIGHLIGHTS: In the main ring was the hugely popular Atkinson Action Horses which provide TV stunt horses for Poldark, Victoria and Peaky Blinders. President handing over ceremony... The Michael Spink Memorial Perpetual Trophy, honours 24-year-old dairy farmer, Michael who was tragically killed in January while working in New Zealand. Passionate about Ayrshire cattle and a long standing member of Knaresborough Young Farmers, the trophy was presented by Steward, Michael Warren to the winner of the Ayrshire Heifer Champion Richard Baynes of Hexham with his Ayrshire heifer, Marleycote Sea Lily. Secretary of State for Environment, Food and Rural Affairs Michael Gove MP visited on the Wednesday morning and took a tour of the show accompanied by Charles Mills Show Director. For the first time the British Charolais Cattle Society has held its national championships at the show and a record 72 entrants contested the 11 classes and six championships, with the breed championship going to Dorset-based Mr and Mrs A White s cow, Balbithan Iona. Over at the Fashion Pavilion, famous names from the world of sport and TV took their turn on the GYS catwalk. Yorkshire Cricket Legend Ryan Sidebottom and retired professional rugby player Keith Senior, joined TV favourites, Yorkshire Vets Julian Norton and Peter Wright, BBC weather presenter, Abbie Dewhurst and Look North presenter, Amy Garcia. The stars were showing off the latest lines in the Yorkshire Agricultural Society Tweed range. Supreme Champion Sheep: Adele a Beltex Aged Ewe, with owner Jack Buckle.

Blythewood Native Beef Pairs: Aberdeen Angus pair, Mr D Rankin s heifer Kilmaluag Etta and the Gordon Brooke Estate s bull, Linton Gilbertines President. Blythewood Continental Beef Pairs: Alford family s British Limousin bull, Foxhillfarm Lordofthering, and heifer, Foxhillfarm Mamamia.
