Yes indeed that time of the year is here again. Staff start arriving his week and in 2 weeks campers will be here. Can I let you in on a little secret? This is my favorite time of the year. Picking staff up at the airport and seeing the utter look of terror on their faces wondering what they got themselves into. Most of them worried if they can do the job and last the summer. As orientation week approaches next week I will get to see them worry and worry and worry about things that are so small to me and the rest of the SOC veterans but to them they are as big as a house. Guess what though, as the summer rolls on I also get to see the transformation as they go from nervous and afraid newbies to confident and strong SOC veterans! Yep, I love this time of the year! Anywho, let s talk business! We have a couple of big events going on in the next 2 months, starting with our garage sale at Bob and Sharon Szajkovics s home. Bob has informed me that his garage is bursting with stuff and he still needs lots of help. If you can volunteer and hour or two Friday or Saturday please give him a buzz at (708)926-5469. Our 68 th Annual open house will be Sunday, July 19 th and this year s theme is African Safari. So put on your hiking boots and your cool safari hat and let s go for a walk on the Wild side! Finally, our 12 th Annual SOB Motorcycle ride is Sunday, July 26 th. Our committee is hard at work planning a spectacular event so come out and join us. Well friends, this is a busy next couple of weeks for me so I got to split. Talk soon! Good Times, Scott Steele Executive Director Happy Father s Day

We want to remind you of our donation box fundraiser. Shady Oaks Camp will provide plastic donation boxes for parents to place at businesses in their communities. These boxes are specifically for parents to raise money for camp time. Fifty percent of all donations collected will go directly to campers accounts and the other fifty percent raised will go towards operating camp. This fundraiser, if done correctly can raise a lot of money for your child s camp time! In order to receive the boxes parents must follow the guidelines listed below: 1. Because boxes are limited, parents must have location(s) secured BEFORE they receive their box. (Good locations include liquor stores, restaurants and grocery stores.) 2. Parents are responsible for checking boxes regularly and sending money to camp. If no money is raises during a one (1) month period from a location, the box(es) must be returned to camp. 3. Boxes are property of Shady Oaks Camp and must be returned to camp if the business no longer wants the box at their location or if the parent decides they would no longer like to participate in this particular fundraiser. 4. This fundraiser will be on going and boxes can be left in locations as long as the business allows. Just a piece of the pie. Shady Oaks Camp is partnering together with Baker Square We will be offering 2 types of pie cards. A Fruit or Baked pie card cost $12.50 A Cream pie card costs $15.00 Checks or money orders made out to Shady Oaks Camp. Families will receive half of the profit made on each pie card that they sell. There is no expiration date on the cards so you can stock up for next year. Please contact Mary Pisano at 708.532.1916 or agnesmpisano@hotmail.com If you have any questions or would like to place an order. 5. Parents should create a flyer/story about their camper and why they are raising funds to place with the box. Shady Oaks Camp will have some informational flyers about camp for parents to place with their boxes if they do not wish to create their own flyer. Page 2 Page 2
Fundraising cont. We will be running an exciting new fundraiser this year. With the help of volunteers, we will be constructing a wishing well/fountain in the middle of camp and leading up to the well will be a memorial brick pathway. We are partnering with polar engraving to sell engraved bricks for this memorial walkway. 4 x 8 bricks will be $100.00 ($110.00 if you would like a replica mini brick) and can be purchased through the polar engraving camp website http://www.polarengraving.com/shadyoakscamp. 100% of profits will go to support SOC! By purchasing a brick, you will not only be immortalizing your occasion or loved one, but also be providing much needed funds to SOC. Bricks may also be customized to include your business logo or other graphic image from a catalog of clip art. Page 3
