You and a dozen sashless, tired faces are attempting to construct a fire to hard boil an average egg. People are quiet, annoyingly silent. The crack of what you want to be a fire is all you can hear. But as you lead them, those scouts co-operate to a point where the challenges before them become manageable. You, and your brothers build that fire. After a time, those eggs become browned in the bubbling water. It s time; your Ordeals start eating their incubated ovals of tastelessness. As you rip apart the chalky shell of your egg it feels incredibly like rubber. You just slept in the pouring rain and it s way too early in the morning. You bite into the egg, and what you thought was a solid mass of silly putty becomes a bright yellow soup. That s Scouting as it was meant to be, as an Elangomat. Elangomating is an amazing weekend of challenging service that you spend leading Scouts who are in Scouting for these challenges. Facing the challenges you have gone through before. The experience gets better and is more rewarding as you become the professional Elangomat. Some upcoming opportunities to be a leader and Elangomat are May 29 31 at Camp Hinds, and June 19 21 at Camp Bomazeen. ANYONE can be an Elangomat. If you are interested in this great experience, email AbnakiOA@gmail.com for more information on the most rewarding weekend you will ever have as a scout. Page 4

The income from other events goes right back into the event itself. Your dues pays for your fee to national, your mailing of Turtle Soup, event publications and registrations, as well as helping fund Lodge service projects and some chapter activities.
