President s Post Dan K. Well it looks like the hot summer weather is finally over for the year and now that fall has arrived mother nature is attempting to drown us. Hopefully, the weather will be cooperative when it is time for Club Night Out on Oct. 2nd. For October we are hosting it at our place, hope to see you there. I will send out an email with directions. We have a number of activities for October, two different senior facilities have requested we bring our cars out. We need to set a date to visit Briarcliff and Legends would like us to bring our cars out on the 27th for their festival. We also have a tour scheduled to visit the TAMU-C planetarium on Oct. 20th. We need to meet at St. Paul's Episcopal Church on Jack Finney Blvd at 8:30am. In October we will be voting for next year's club officers. We need to fill 3 Director positions, President Elect, and Tour Coordinator among others. If you would like to volunteer, please let a board member know. I would like to request that some of the younger members think about serving on the board. We will be looking forward to hearing from you. I enjoyed our club's 45th anniversary celebration at Webb Hill. It seemed that everyone I spoke with left with their belly full and a smile on their face. I hope that everyone had a good time and hopefully you scored one of the door prizes. Also, I would like to request that we begin paying our next year's club and AACA dues in Oct. and Nov. so that we aren't scrambling around at the last minute to get our members signed up. Our share of Pate income is based on the number of club members, so we need to maximize the number reported and it seems there are always some not paid when we have to submit our membership count. This is it for this month, ya'll be safe, protect your health, and I hope to see you at the next meeting, October 28th. Dan K.

Chuckle for the Day Freya was driving her Chevrolet Vega home in New Mexico when she saw an elderly Apache woman walking along the side of the road. She stopped the car and asked the woman if she would like a lift? With a silent nod, the woman climbed into the car. Freya tried in vain to make conversation with the Apache woman. The old Apache looked closely at everything she saw, studying every little detail, until she noticed a red gift bag on the seat next to Freya. 'What's in the bag?' asked the old woman. 'It's a bottle of whisky that I got for my husband.' The Apache woman was silent for another minute or two. Then speaking with the quiet wisdom of an elder, she said, 'Good trade.' Automobile Trivia (may or not be factual) Henry Ford II had wanted a Ford at Le Mans since the early 1960s. In early 1963, Ford reportedly received word through a European intermediary that Enzo Ferrari was interested in selling to Ford Motor Company. Ford reportedly spent several million dollars in an audit of Ferrari factory assets and in legal negotiations, only to have Ferrari unilaterally cut off talks at a late stage due to disputes about the ability to direct open wheel racing. Ferrari, who wanted to remain the sole operator of his company's motor sports division, was angered when he was told that he would not be allowed to race at the Indianapolis 500 if the deal went through since Ford fielded Indy cars using its own engine, and didn't want competition from Ferrari. Enzo cut the deal off out of spite and Henry Ford II, enraged, directed his racing division to find a company that could build a Ferrari-beater on the world endurance-racing circuit.[8] To this end Ford began negotiation with Lotus, Lola, and Cooper. Cooper had no experience in GT or prototype and its performances in Formula One were declining.[citation needed] The Lola proposal was chosen, since Lola had used a Ford V8 engine in their midengined Lola Mk6 (also known as Lola GT). It was one of the most advanced racing cars of the time, and made a noted performance in Le Mans 1963, even though the car did not finish, due to low gearing and slow revving out on the Mulsanne Straight. ]
