INFORMATION NOTE Dar es Salaam United Republic of Tanzania 20 23 June 2011
DATE AND PLACE The 2011 UN Public Service Forum on the theme of Transformative Leadership in Public Administration and Innovation Governance: Creating a Better Life for All will be organized by the United Nations -Department of Economic and Social Affairs (UNDESA) and the African Union, as well as the President s Office of the Government of Tanzania, and in partnership with UN-Women, and the United Nations Development Programme. This event will be held at the Mlimani City Conference Centre in Dar es Salaam, United Republic of Tanzania, from 20 to 23 June 2011. The opening ceremony will begin promptly at 9:00 a.m. on Monday 20 June. From 20 through 23 June, the Forum will comprise of plenary sessions, four capacity development workshops, and a special meeting on Public Service Awards Programmes. On 23 June, the United Nations and Africa Public Service Day will be celebrated on a special ceremony. On this occasion, the 2011 UN Public Service Awards, as well as the African and Tanzanian Awards will be presented to the winners. REGISTRATION Online registration should be done by invitation only at: http://www.unpan.org/unpsforum-registration On-site registration will be done at The Movenpick Hotel Saturday, 18 June 2:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. Sunday, 19 June 9:00 a.m. to 8:00 p.m. Monday, 20 June Participants should arrive by 8:00 a.m. to allow time for registration (if not done earlier), entry and seating. Ground passes to enter the conference facilities will be distributed during registration. ACCOMMODATION Participants are responsible for booking their own hotels. A list of preferred hotels for this event is also found on this website. Please make sure to make your own reservation. LOCAL TRANSPORTATION Taxis will be stationed outside of the airport and, for a fee, will take participants to one of the hotels that have been pre-booked by the organizers. Some hotels on the list provided may provide a shuttle service to and from the airport. TRANSPORTATION FROM THE HOTEL TO THE VENUE OF THE EVENT Please be advised that every morning at 8 am buses will transport participants from their hotels to the venue of the event, the Mlimani Conference Center. VISAS Participants are responsible for obtaining their own visas. It is important that you contact the nearest Tanzanian consulate to check visa requirements for entering the United Republic of Tanzania. You may wish to bring a copy of your United Nations invitation letter to consular officials of the United Republic of Tanzania in your country. There will be a desk in the arrival
hall of Julius Nyerere International Airport, Dar es Salaam for UNPSA participants to have their passports stamped, and visas issued on arrival in cases where there is no Tanzanian Consulate in their country of residence. Visa fees and airport taxes are the responsibility of the participants. IMMUNIZATIONS/VACCINATIONS Vaccination requirements change from time to time. We suggest you consult your local doctor or health department for information on the latest health precautions. Currently, shots against yellow fever and cholera are recommended but not mandatory. As a precaution, we usually advise anti-malarial drugs to be taken before, during and after your visit to East Africa. Also, if you are on prescription medication, please ensure you have an adequate supply to last the duration of your stay and a copy of your prescription(s). Malaria: your risk of malaria may be high in all countries in East Africa, including cities. See your health care provider for a prescription anti-malarial drug for details concerning risk and preventive medications. ELECTRICITY Electric Power is 240V running at 50-60Hz.
