Welcome & Apologies Cllr Aitken welcomed everyone to the meeting and listed the apologies. 1
2. Minutes of last meeting Previous change had not been made as advised by Helen Ogg, Gail Dickson advised these have now been changed. Minutes of 3 rd March 2014 were approved by Pauline Valentine and seconded by Tom Strathdee. 3. Outcome Reports As per outcome reports distributed pre meeting, Helen Ogg requested clarification to the contents of report on littering from school children, Gail Dickson went through the reports with the group. 4. PI Duthie advised of results following Operation Wolf which took place on 26 May 2014, police carried out 48 warrent checks, 6 arrests for significant warrents and Road Traffic Checks were carried out with conditional offers given. Jim Napier, Firrhill Community Council asked PI Duthie why there were different Police Constables attending at their meetings who often have no knowledge of the local area. PI Duthie advised each officer who attends the Community Council meetings should know the current statistics and trends for that area. Anyone unhappy with the content of info given by police officers attending community council meetings should discuss this with the area sergeants. Jim Napier, Firrhill Community Council also advised that the police surgeries are not always in the best place and that the police station may be a good place for them to take place, PI Duthie agreed to look into this. PI LD 6. Youth Tracking System Paul Saunders advised the group of the number of calls received re youth tracking between March 2014 and May 2014. Group to note March 2014 Ward 2 7 calls 3

Two calls to Spylaw Street and one to Bonaly Road youths on moped. Report of youths trying door handles at Kingsknowe Road West and Kingsknowe Crescent Current Hotspot areas One issue with off road bikes at Currievale Drive, Curriehill Road, Baird Road, Currie High School and Woodhall Millbrae. 7. AOCB Chris Bell gave the group a presentation on Door Stop Crime and Cold Calling; main points are as follows, Trading Standards work alongside Police Scotland to investigate all types of doorstop crime. (Operation Anstople) In 2012 Operation Anstople saved just under 100,000 by intervening in contracts and advising of what not to pay. Statistics advise that only 10% of doorstop crime is reported. Current no cold calling zones have reported a 92% decrease in this practice. 85% of individuals who live in no cold calling zones reported they felt more confident refusing individuals at their door. Any area that wishes to set up a no cold calling zone requires a 50% + 1 agreement from the community to proceed. Community Councils to contact Chris Bell direct for information, advice and leaflets on no cold calling zones. His contact details are email christopher.bell@edinburgh.gov.uk, telephone 031 469 5062, agreement that this would be a new priority for June September 2014. CB CB Helen Ogg asked for we do not buy at the door signs, Chris provided these. Cllr Aitken asked with regard to preferred person cards, these are cards that persons can give to someone when they attend at the door, they advise of a preferred person to be contacted. 5
Chris advised he would send these to Cllr Aitken and Veronica Wright. Chris left leaflets and posters for the Community Councils to take. 9.
