Interstate 95 Bridge Rehabilitation Project Work is underway to improve the deck and substructure on several bridges located on I 95 in Stafford and Spotsylvania. Stafford County: I 95 Bridge over Aquia Creek at mile marker 145 The I 95 bridges over Aquia Creek are located just north of Exit 143 (Route 610/Garrisonville) at mile marker 145. I 95 Northbound: Monday Thursday, 9 p.m. 4:30 a.m. 9 p.m. single lane closed 10 p.m. 4:30 a.m. two lanes closed 4:30 a.m. All lanes open the following morning I 95 Southbound Monday Thursday, 9 p.m. 10 a.m. 9 p.m. single lane closed 10 p.m. 4:30 a.m. two lanes closed 4:30 a.m. 10 a.m. single lane remains closed 10 a.m. All lanes will reopen.
Interstate 95 (Exit 140/Courthouse Road) Work is underway to improve the I 95 interchange at Exit 140 (Route 630/Courthouse Road). The project is building a diverging diamond interchange at Exit 140, relocating the Courthouse Road and Route 1 intersection to the south to align with Hospital Center Boulevard, and is widening Courthouse Road to four lanes from Cedar Lane to Ramoth Church Road. I 95 Southbound (New) Monday Thursday, 9 p.m. 10 a.m. A single lane will close at 9 p.m. near the Exit 140 interchange followed by a double lane closure at 10 p.m. for bridge work. Double lane closures will end at 4:30 a.m. A single lane will remain closed until 10 a.m. when all lanes will reopen. All ramps will remain open. I 95 Northbound (New) Tuesday Friday, 9 p.m. 4:30 a.m. A single lane will close at 9 p.m. near the Exit 140 interchange followed by a double lane closure at 10 p.m. Double lane closures will end at 4:30 a.m. and all lanes will reopen. Winding Creek Road Monday Thursday, 9 a.m. 2:30 p.m. and Friday, 8:30 a.m. 12 p.m. Expect alternating, oneway traffic on Winding Creek Road from Courthouse Road to Embrey Mill Road for pipe work. Woodcutters Road Monday Thursday, 9 a.m. 2:30 p.m. and Friday, 9 a.m. 12 p.m. Expect alternating, single lane closures on Woodcutters Road between Courthouse Road and Cutstone Drive.
Wyche Road Monday Thursday, 9 a.m. 2:30 p.m. and Friday, 9 a.m. 12 p.m. Expect alternating, oneway traffic on Wyche Road at Courthouse Road to allow trucks to enter and exit the work zone for grading and pipe work. Interstate 95 Southbound Rappahannock River Crossing Project Construction is underway on a $132 million project to reduce driver delays by adding three new travel lanes to I 95 southbound in the Fredericksburg area. The project work zone begins just north of the Exit 133 interchange at Route 17 in Stafford County and ends just south of the Exit 130 interchange at Route 3 in the City of Fredericksburg and Spotsylvania County. Construction will be underway through May 2022. Interstate 95 Northbound FULL Traffic Stop (New) Monday Tuesday, 11:59 p.m. 1 a.m. Interstate 95 northbound traffic at Exit 130 (Route 3) will be stopped for one 30 minute period sometime after midnight for utility work. Virginia State Police will slowly roll traffic to a stop just after midnight near the Cowan Boulevard overpass. Traffic will be stopped up to 30 minutes for motorist safety. Interstate 95 Northbound and Southbound Monday Friday, 9 p.m. 10 a.m. and Friday Saturday, 10 p.m. 5 a.m. Expect a single lane closure between mile marker 129 which is near Exit 130 (Route 3) and Exit 136 (Centreport Parkway) to allow crews to install temporary concrete barriers along the left shoulder of I 95 northbound and southbound. All lanes will reopen by 4:30 a.m. on I 95 northbound and 10 a.m. on I 95 southbound. Interstate 95 Exit 130/Route 3/Fredericksburg Interchange Improvement Project Construction is underway to modify the ramps and traffic pattern at the Interstate 95 and Route 3 interchange at Exit 130 in Fredericksburg to enhance safety. Motorists will encounter the following lane closures near Route 3, I-95 at Exit 130 and/or the Central Park shopping area. Interstate 95 Northbound (New) Sunday Monday, 9 p.m. 4:30 a.m. Expect a single lane to be closed on I 95 northbound near the interchange for milling and paving work. Interstate 95 Southbound FULL TRAFFIC STOPS (Update) Monday Tuesday, 10 p.m. 4:30 a.m. Expect a double lane closure to begin at 10 p.m. on I 95 southbound. Traffic will be intermittently stopped overnight between midnight and
4:30 a.m. for up to 30 minutes at a time for motorist safety. Crews will install an overhead sign just north of Exit 130. All northbound lanes will remain open. All southbound lanes will reopen by 4:30 a.m. the following morning. Virginia State Police will assist with traffic control. Interstate 95 Southbound Off Ramp (Update) Sunday Thursday, 9 p.m. 6 a.m. Expect a single lane to be closed on I 95 northbound near the interchange for milling and paving work. Interstate 95 at Exit 118/Mudd Tavern Road Widening and Bridge Replacement Project Crews are working to improve the interchange on Interstate 95 at Exit 118 (Mudd Tavern Road). The project is building a new I 95 overpass and will improve on and off ramps on Mudd Tavern Road, Mudd Tavern Road east of I 95, and Mallard Road. I 95 Northbound On and Off Ramps Monday Friday, 9 a.m. 3:30 p.m. and Friday, 9 a.m. 12 p.m. Expect flagging operations at the I 95 northbound on and off ramps from Mudd Tavern Road for roadway reconstruction. Mudd Tavern Road Monday Friday, 9 a.m. 3:30 p.m. Expect alternating, one way traffic on Mudd Tavern Road near the interchange. Flaggers will direct drivers through the work zone. Mallard Road Monday Friday, 9 a.m. 3:30 p.m. Expect alternating, one way traffic on Mallard Road for project construction and storm sewer installation. Districtwide Flashing Yellow Arrow Project (Update) Monday Friday, 9 a.m. 4 p.m. Crews will be working at the following intersections to install flashing yellow arrows at several traffic signals in the Fredericksburg District to help drivers turn left safely against oncoming traffic. Stafford County Work Zones Route 608 (Brooke Road) CLOSED for Stafford County Project Brooke Road is closed near Eskimo Hill Road. This is a Stafford County project to realign the roadway to improve safety and drainage. The road will remain closed until January 2019. Route 616 (Poplar Road) CLOSED Beginning Monday, Oct. 1, Poplar Road will close between Stony Hill Road and Mack Lane to allow crews to remove a deteriorated metal pipe from underneath the roadway and install a new plastic pipe. Weather permitting, work will be complete and the road will reopen by Oct. 5. Signs will be posted to guide drivers along the recommended detour route, which is approximately 11 miles. Route 637 (Telegraph Road) CLOSED Telegraph Road is closed to through traffic between Route 1 and the I 95 bridge near Mt. Perry Road for pipe installation. Through traffic will be directed to use the designated detour around the work zone. Residents along Telegraph Road will maintain access to their homes. Route 631 (Bells Hill Road) CLOSED 24 hour closure, Route 631 (Bells Hill Road) remains closed between Virginia Belle Drive and Belle Vine Lane for a slope failure and road damage caused by flooding. The road is anticipated to remain closed to through traffic until mid October 2018. Road closed barricades and detour signs have been posted to guide motorists. Bells Hill Road remains open at both intersections with Route 1. Travelers seeking to access destinations south of Belle Vine Lane should use the southern intersection of Route 1 and Bells Hill Road to reach their destination. Routine Maintenance Monday Friday, 6 a.m. 4 p.m. Stay alert for mobile lane closures. The bridge is located at mile marker 132, north of Exit 130 (Route 3). Expect brief delays.
Spotsylvania County Work Zones Interstate 95 Southbound (New) Friday, 9 a.m. 12 p.m. Expect a single lane to be closed at the bridge over the Ni River, which is mile marker 121, just before Exit 118/Thornburg for bridge inspection.
