COMMODORE S BRIEFING Dear Members, As our 2017 season draws to a close, I wish to thank our outgoing Commodore Debbie Drake Larson for her outstanding contributions, dedication and passion at the helm. We can look forward enthusiastically to her at our side throughout this next year offering experience and guidance as we transition the bridge and begin now this Fall and Winter to look ahead at the 2018 planning season. The PIBYC is an exceptional experience for our members! It lures us in weekend after weekend to find our friends, make new acquaintances, unfurl our sails or power up our engines, and give our children summers full of memories all in pursuit of leisure, relaxation, good company and good times. A slice of heaven here at the Bay! On this fun note, please remember that the Club depends upon your interest, involvement and membership -- and membership renewals for 2018 help us to keep our staff and operations running in time for the upcoming season. Please take a moment to email a friend or family member and encourage them to join us in membership at the PIBYC! Our applications forms can be found online and require a member sponsor. Junior members ages 21-27 have a special discounted membership rate. Details are available on the website under the membership tab or here : PIBYC- MembershipApp-06-2017_fillable.pdf Or, for questions reach out to our Membership Chair Marilyn Paselsky. Paselsky@Cooper.net The Fall and Winter is also a time to begin planning for next year. Please look at and consider participating on one of our committees for this next season. A list of Committee's that help to shape the development of our club can be found in the 2017-member yearbook. As we confirm our Chairs this fall we hope you will attend and offer your services at the Town Hall meeting held over the Winter Doldrums Weekend scheduled for MLK weekend January of this next year. Committee's will meet periodically throughout this winter for planning. Your involvement is needed & much appreciated! Finally, I'd like to thank those that helped us obtain some new improvements this past season via the Silent Pledge Projects. Your commitment & follow through helped us to complete four of our nine proposed projects with a fifth (SIGN) still underway. We are all enjoying the Sonos Outdoor Speakers, new kitchen and bar mats, new entrance mats, and if you haven't seen it yet, a new beautifully refurbished fireplace now warms our Bayview Room! Thanks to everyone for making progress happen. I appreciate your confidence and look forward to being of service to you and our club in this upcoming year. Gina Trebilcock Commodore

VICE COMMODORE S CORNER As the club is being put to bed for the winter and our members are sneaking up to the island on one of these great fall days we have had for the last taste of summer, I look back and reflect on what a wonderful season we had. We thank Debbie for all her hard work and leadership as she passes the helm to Commodore Gina. I know that Gina will continue on the path to the future charted well into 2020. The new flag has already been hard at work planning both new and old events from the year past. That said, it takes the time and efforts of our spectacular membership to bring these events to fruition. We will have sign-up sheets at the winter doldrums meeting for all of you that would like to pitch in and lend a hand by chairing an event or volunteering as a bartender for the much beloved weekend Bloody Mary bar. Our membership has been a huge focus over the last year and much of that growth is a direct result of the efforts of our Commodore Gina. She has set the bar high, but I know with the continued efforts of our rejuvenated membership, we can continue to grow as the PIBYC membership is still the BEST value on the Great Lakes. I look forward to seeing many of you at our winter doldrums meeting. Please come with your ideas and talents for the upcoming 2018 season. Todd Tigges Vice-Commodore REAR COMMODORE Daylight is growing shorter; the air is becoming cool and crisp and the ground is being carpeted with falling leaves of orange and brown. Fall is upon us. As we officially end the chapter of the 2017 summer season, we are excited to begin planning for our next chapter of summer 2018. The board has met, and the calendar has begun to fill up with formal and informal events to help make next season and the PIBYC a continued place of destination. As your incoming Rear Commodore, I am thrilled to be challenged with making next summer one to remember. Previous Flag Officers have raised the bar and I am up to the challenge of fulfilling your expectations. We will have plenty of events for families and members to be involved. Please do not underestimate the importance of your support and contributions to making our yacht club what it is. We will be looking for individuals and groups to donate time and resources to help make our summer events successful. We will have sign-up sheets available at the Winter Doldrums party in January. Once again it will be at the Holiday Inn Express in Westlake, OH the weekend of January 12, 13 and 14, 2018. I am looking forward to our Put-In-Bay Yacht Club family s continued growth, so over the course of the summer make sure to bring your friends down to see what an amazing group of people are here. With the help of Barb, staff, the Flag Officers, the Board of Trustees, and you the members, 2018 promises to be another year of fun.

As Michael Josephson would say: As you sail into the New Year, do so boldly and with enthusiasm. Your life is your ship and you are the captain. Choose your course, take the wheel firmly and get on your way. Brian Leonard Rear Commodore POWER FLEET CAPTAIN The power fleet sends holiday greetings to the entire Put-in-Bay Yacht Club. While fall has come upon us, it won t be long until we are talking about launching boats again. Next year we are planning several cruise outs for the season. Back by popular demand will be a cruise out to the North Channel Yacht Club in Lake St. Clair, we will also be going back to Cleveland for a long weekend. Other possible cruises are to Toledo/Maumee Bay, Huron/Vermilion and Leamington/Pelee. If there is enough interest, we will possible do a Cruise In to Put-in-Bay for our delightful wine tasting. We hope everyone has a safe holiday season and we look forward to seeing everyone and the winter doldrums. Tom Priesman Power Fleet Captain SAIL FLEET CAPTAIN Good Day All, This year we had a great race season with almost 60 races on Friday and Saturdays this summer. We also had a great Bayweek regatta hosted by the PIBYC. During the summer series the final standings were Doug Seib 1 st, Jim Hildebrandt 2 nd, Bob Everson 3 rd, Ken Farber 4 th, Larry Schrader 5 th. For the Fall Series (after Bayweek) Doug was 1 st, Bob Everson 2 nd, Jim Hildebrandt 3 rd, Ken Farber 4 th, Larry Schrader 5 th. Jim Hildebrandt also sailed very well and was this year s Wave class winner at Bayweek. Thanks to Ken Farber for hosting our awards dinner this year. At this meeting we had discussion about how to get more of our fellow members involved not only in the race program but more importantly learning to sail. Next year I will again offer lesson to the club and public on Sundays mornings at 10am. Additionally we will offer anyone in the club who would like to go out sailing, to accompany us on Fridays at our usual launch time of 1pm and at our NEW Saturday time of 10am. The idea will be for us to help people launch with us and sail in the bay where we will be nearby to instruct and assist you as needed. Then we can also help get you back to the ramp and complete a fun experience for all. If at some point you feel up to trying to sail around the race course you can just join in when you re ready. We hope this new timing and format will encourage more members and your kids to participate. Even the kids in the sail program

may want to try a different boat than the Opti or 420 s. Since the Hobie Waves can handle an adult and 2 kids or 2 adults, it s an enjoyable way for mom or dad to get on the water with the kids. On a personal note I d like to thank all the volunteers from the club, especially Connie Miller, (Regatta Co-Chair), for all the work they did to make for a very successful Bayweek Regatta. Since the boats are all put away its time to go skiing. See you all in May! Sail Fast, Sail for Fun! Doug Seib Sail Fleet Captain HI! CLUB MANAGER As I close out my 6th year here at the club, I want to thank a great crew for all their help making my job look "easy"! You are all fantastic and a pleasure to work with! Our Bridge was excellent in 2017, always coming up with innovative ideas to make Put-in-Bay Yacht Club the fun place it has become. Please make 2018 your year to get more involved with your ideas to further enhance our club and events. I hope everyone has a wonderful holiday season and I'll see you at the Doldrums! Barb Chrysler Club Manager AUXILIARY NEWS Congratulations to Past President Denise Snyder for a great 2017! I was very honored to serve alongside Treasurer Caroline Zerbey, and Secretary Heidi Tigges as well. Denise certainly put together a wonderful year and I look forward to continuing what s been started. Some highlights of 2017 included: refreshed furniture in the front room with newly covered cushions and pillows and new carpeting. We hope you have enjoyed this all summer long! More improvements in the works for 2018! I am thrilled to announce the Auxiliary Board Members for 2018: Heidi Tigges as Vice President, Christy Bykowski as Secretary, and Caroline Zerbey as Treasurer. The 2018 calendar is being developed but we welcome suggestions and help! We will once again be having our annual Yard Sale in July so please START YOUR YARD SALE pile now! Our 2018 Auxiliary Functions include: Silver Sails luncheon, luncheons at the club, luncheons away from the club and the addition of a Happy Hour event this year. We will be meeting at the Winter Doldrums Party in January to finalize the Calendar and plan to add some Zing to the events this year! We need Themes & Committee members! Have an idea? Want to volunteer? Send me an email before January or join us at the Winter Doldrums Party!

Deborah.a.palmer@gmail.com Happy Thanksgiving, Merry Christmas, Happy New Year and see you in 2018! Deborah Palmer Auxiliary President the club to more effectively host major yachting regattas from around the world. Opportunities have presented themselves for a reconfiguration plan as outlined in a preliminary draft mock-up of the drawing below. Final plans would be clarified with the board prior to the commencement of any construction. The Put-in-Bay Maritime Society The Put-in-Bay Maritime Society is a newly formed non-profit 501(c)(3) organization dedicated to preserving maritime history and promoting yachting activities on Put-in-Bay. The charitable organization was formed by a few of our club members for the specific purpose of issuing grants that may jumpstart specific historic projects and capital expenditures to enable Put-in-Bay to return to the maritime mecca it once was back in the early 1900 s. The Society will solicit requests from nonprofit organizations for the specific purpose of meeting this organizations exempt purpose. One such request has been received by the Society, from the PIBYC Board of Directors, to assist in the restoration of the Club s former lighthouse cupula that was used to guide the sailing yachts back into the dock. The Society has received a special pledge grant to match the funds donated to this specific project. With that in mind and as the end of the year is approaching, we ask that you consider making a tax-deductible donation to The Put-in-Bay Maritime Society with your donation specifically earmarked to this project. What better way to make your donation reach twice as far and receive a tax deduction benefit. Please look for additional donation details in your upcoming dues notice and consider making a taxdeductible gift to better yachting on the island of Put-in-Bay. There has also been discussion on the need to revamp the current configuration of the parking lot. The reconfiguration would allow
