Glasshouse Country Orchid News The official news letter of the Glasshouse Country Orchid Society Inc PO Box 21, Beerwah QLD 4519 August 2014 Preparing Plants for Orchid Shows: Noela Frizzo gave a talk on preparing plants for exhibition at orchid shows and referred to a very good article by Noel Grundon of Atherton published in the Nambour Orchid News June 2014. In this Issue: Preparing for Orchid Shows AGM Facebook Bus Trip to Gympie Nambour Show Results ANOS Show Benching Results for August Upcoming Events Key Points were:- Check the show schedule and rules. Clean the plant to remove dust; clean the pot/container. o Use lemon juice or milk to clean leaves o Or one cup of water, one tbls powdered milk, 1 tbls dishwashing liquid. Remove dead/dried leaves pseudobulbs. Plant should be free from pests and diseases. Label plant clearly with correct name. Inflorescences can be staked but ensure it looks natural. o start when inflorescence is young o mid morning or later o remove brown leaves from sheath o cut icecream containers/polystyrene meat trays to separate and position flowers on the inflorescence. Water well before taking plants to show Pack plants in car and try to avoid flowers rubbing; use tissues to cushion them.
